Thanks for the review. I've been thinking about getting a PCC for a while, and already own an M&P9 compact, so this might fit the bill. Been watching other reviews, and no one seems to like the mag retention mechanism in the buttstock. If the FPC becomes popular I could see other companies making aftermarket stocks for it.

I understand people's complaint about the orientation of the magazine storage and the way the release mechanism works. However, I experimented with mine and found that if I bring my left in towards my shoulder and "cup" my hand underneath both magazines that I use my fingertips to depress the lever on the right side and then use my thumb to start sliding out the magazine then once it's out I can rotate my wrist so that the magazine is oriented correctly with the magazine well. With some practice you can be ejecting the spent magazine at the same time that you are reaching for the new mag. However, I did this with the magazines empty. It may be slightly more difficult once the magazines are full. Again, practice, practice, practice. And safely of course

Great review! I completely agree, the FPC is a whole different animal compared to the sub2k. They have the same party trick, but the FPC is a much more refined firearm. One note about the ETS mags. They will fit in the buttstock mag storage, they just don't lock in unfortunately (because of the missing holes you mentioned in the video). Although, even if they did, those 30rd mags stick out so far that it interferes with my forearm when holding the grip. I actually ended up removing the factory buttstock and replaced it with Taccom3g's aftermarket stock. With the factory stock, filled with 2 loaded 23rd mags, the rifle was extremely tail heavy. With the Tacom3g stock, it now feels perfectly balanced. Now I just need Apex to release a trigger upgrade!

Great review, I subscribed to your channel as a result. I am very excited about this offering. You are right - it's not a Sub 2000 and I am glad you mentioned that. It seems to fix every single issue I have with the sub 2000 from the way it folds so no optic can go on there unless you buy an offset mount, to the very heavy charging handle and the not really intuitive location of that charging handle, to the crummy onboard sights, etc. In Canada, it looks like these are coming in (to be classified as non-restricted due to the imported version having a 18.6" barrel) and will have 3 magazines as well, albeit limited to 10 rounds as per Canadian law. For the fact it includes 3 mags and a nice carry bag, and the fact that it is not a sub2000 clone, I will for sure be getting one. Would be interested to know what degree of plastic is on that as opposed to the Sub2K. You are right about the spare magazine release button thing - it does seem rather awkward and not an intuitive design. Anyway, great review and hope we get our shipments at our dealers soon.
A year edit later - I got mine in January 2024 and absolutely love it. It has been selling out in Canada everywhere. The entire package is just well presented. Bag is nice, extra magazines (despite all limited to 10) is fine - as these things are $60.00 + tax here. The folding thing is great as I can keep my Sig Romeo 5 on the gun the whole time. It feeds everything - all grains, all types of bullets including even Gold Dot G2s, and Critical Defense, both of which I have had problems feeding in my other PCCs. No issues with feed or extraction.
A few things to note: 1. maybe it's the nature of blowback design but this gun gets dirty very fast. Disassembly was relatively straight forward. 2. When i got it the charging handle was VERY stiff. I ended up running some G96 on it and it make it much better and with use it is fine - which I am glad as one of the issues I had with my now-previous Sub2000 was the inordinately heavy charging handle. 3. I think this may be the design of the buttstock and the springs in there, but everytime I shoot it I get this twanging noise from it, which is amplified by my ear pro. No biggie, just thought I'd mention. 4. The only design flaw in my opinion, is the bolt catch/bolt release. Not very intuitive and the operation is not great. But despite this - overall a superb product, thank you Ava, for the great initial review on it. It is your review that made me want to buy it and I am glad I did. Blessings from Canada!

I have one, it fits the whole truck/trunk gun narrative very well. If it would take Glock magazines more folks would be happy. I have an M&P 2.0 that pairs nicely with it. 9mm with a good defensive round is good enough for me and I understand why folks want it in 10mm. 10mm is too expensive for me to stock up on 2000 rounds for it. With a suppressor and subsonic 9mm it is stealthy quiet according to another RUclips video . Mine was $565 + tax.

If this sells well, I see no reason they wouldn't release future models to match the rest of their M&P Pistol lineup, and possibly some others because who doesn't love a matching carbine & sidearm. Imagine this in 30SC with a grip module to match the Shield Plus. That'd be a strange one, but possibly very cool and it would help legitimize the caliber. I'm not sure the market really needs 30SC right now, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't find it interesting.

TIP: I have always carried full size M&P and with the Floyd's FPC maxwell, there's no need for the biscuit spacers and your pinky finger on your strong hand won't get pinched anymore while performing a mag change. Also the mag storage release does make since. Access the mag closest to you from the first accessible side and access the other from the opposite side. The mag will be in the correct position for mag seating in the mag well.

Honestly, I'd rather see the barrel completely detach, like the Ruger 10/22 Takedown. There's too much bulkiness around the sides of the frame. I'd also get rid of the magazine holder. It's awkward pulling them forward and out while shouldered, especially if you are right handed and pulling the right side magazine out, and vice versa for lefties pulling the left mag out. The gun is a little backside heavy as well with that massive bolt. I can imagine how much heavier it would be with two full magazines in the stock. Simple enough though to have someone 3D print my own design. I do however, love the trigger/firing control mechanism.

    UPDATE ON S&W FPC FAILURE.......
I got my FPC back in about 3 1/2 weeks which kind of surprised me. I thought it would take a bit longer. When I picked it up, I field stripped it (wife videoed) in the store to ensure the bolt would only go together one way. It did. The guys at the gun shop had no problem with the video. The owner gave me the paperwork from S&W where they indicated they had totally replaced the old broken bolt with a new one. I took it down to the range and fired....yes fired....a little over 100 rounds. It functioned perfectly, no problems at all. I used what I had tried to fire the first time....Blazer Brass 115gr FMJ's....and I also fired about 6 NATO M17 124gr frangile rounds. All fired no problem. While it will take me some time to have confidence in this weapon, at least for now, it seems to be functioning properly. If there is a problem with it in the future it will go back to S&W, but if there is a third time, I will evoke the NC lemon law which says you do not have to try three times to get anything to work properly. That applies to everything not just cars. I will be doing a disassembly/ reassembly video on this shortly. I have seen a few and they leave off some things I believe are important.

I picked one up the other day and out of the box it took me and the Jolly Green Giant to pull back the charging handle. Unreal. After disassembling, cleaning and oiling it works MUCH better.
Kudos for using the charging handle to lock and release the barrel. On YT you will see most people just pulling and then slamming it back. While you can do that, it will eventually wear the charging handle to the degree it will not hold the barrel securely. BTW, it says in the manual to use the charging handle, but who reads those things??????
I called S&W with a couple of questions and found their reps have received no training on the weapon and know very little about it. One thing I wanted to ask about is what's the deal of having to take a dowel and hammer to get the bolt back in??? I asked would that eventually go away. But, they had no clue.
I also asked that since the manual only covers a basic field stripping for cleaning, what is the best way to clean the trigger housing area. Crickets. No answer. After talking we basically agreed just getting a can of gun cleaner spray and letting loose would work followed by copious oiling.
Finally, the price difference is unreal. I picked mine up for $567 only to see it in another store for $799. That's over a $200 difference. So if someone is really interested in getting one of these, I would HIGHTLY recommend looking around for the best price.

So far this is the worse weapon out of the box I have ever owned. I took it back to the place I purchased it from and they are going to send it to S&W. Bottom line, I bet I will be out of $600 and not have a functioning weapon. This sucks.

@@theoldshooter9011 It sounds like you have no clue what you are doing. What do you mean the charging handle locks and releases the barrel? No it doesn't. That makes zero sense. 5 out of 50? Yeah, ok. Just ran 150 flawless rounds through mine, a mix of Norma 124 grain FMJ, Hornady Critical Duty 124 grain and Federal 124 grain Hydrashok. @@elvaquero4965 Yep, you're probably correct. After 35 years with the military and mission after mission, dealing with US, European and Soviet weapons you would think I would have learned a thing or two.
As for the charging handle, it fits into one of the Mlok slots and is the barrel is held there by friction. I believe it is page 9 of the manual (mine got shipped back to S&W) S&W instructs you to pull the charging handle back about a quarter of an inch to release the barrel. Continued closing and opening by just pulling or pushing will wear down the charging handle such that it will no longer retain the barrel. But that is S&W advice, what do they know huh?
as for the ammo, yep cycle 50 rounds thru and only 5 of them fired. I suspect, but remember I have no clue what I am talking about, but I suspect it is an bolt issue. Oh why would I say such blasphemy????? Again going back to the manual, S&W notes that the two pieces of the bolt can only be assembled ONE way. And, when I initially cleaned and oiled the weapon out of the box it indeed would assemble only ONE way. However, when I field stripped it at the range and removed the two bolt sections, it now could be assembled TWO ways. Where before the smaller part of the bolt assembly would slide on only from one direction, it now would slide on from either direction.
But thank you so much for pointing out my lack of knowledge and I promise I will endeavor to acquire more knowledge and impart it in an educated and thoughtful manner. Bless your heart!

The charging handle does not hold the "barrel," it friction locks into the M-Lok handguard. Do you not know what a barrel is? You are calling the entire forend assembly the "barrel?" 🤣
Sounds like you disassembled the thing, then screwed up the reassembly and now the folks at S&W have to fix your fuck-up. Best stick to your Soviet weapons. Hard to be dumb enough to screw up an AK. 😂

Too bad they didn't include a rail further back to mount optics. If you want to use anything that doesn't have unlimited eye relief it's gonna be an issue. If you want a scope you'd need a scout or pistol scope more than likely(long eye relief). And what sucks about that is the weight of the optic shifts the center of gravity forward. The Sub 2000 has the same issue which is why I ended up going with the PC carbine. And I can still use my iron sights with the mount I used too. And speaking of iron sights it'd definitely be nice if some were included with the gun/integrated into it. Both the Sub 2000 and PC carbine have them standard. If you have a rear BUIS or possibly red dot on the receiver and the barrel is folding separately you could mess up the zero pretty easy. Forcing the user to mount any sights on one rail that fixed to the barrel should make it very similar to an AR upper, how you can have a lower that loose but the upper stays zeroed or you can swap the upper between different lowers. The Burgess shotgun and sometimes 45/70 is an example of a similar folding mechanism at the breech. Their patents were issued in 1894.

Sure there are differences, but It's a blow-back operated, 9mm, magazine fed, folding carbine, with the charging handle on the stock tube, and the magazines feeds from the gripe like a pistol, It also has the stock, barrel, and receiver in-line requiring high sights. All of these features cause it to "resemble" the Sub 2000. It's said that "Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery". I think Mr. Kellgren considers it flattery when companies copy his work.
