I like that we actually saw the famous snowball effect. Smallant loses Breloom, which would have helped with Norman, and the Mightyena for Intimidate-switching.
What do you mean "actually" saw, every failed nuzlocke shows the snowball effect. Every successful nuzlocke that sacked the right mons also shows how to prevent the snowball effect
But in this one it is more obvious than in most cases. Tanner loses his Breloom, a fighting type, right before the normal gym. It is just a good showcase.
@@johannesneumayer6041 For real, for real. This one's just so on the nose. Poor Smant.
Yeah I was thinking about it while I was watching :)
@@johannesneumayer6041 thats cuz of how it was edited. there is a lot happening in these streams but the editing helps in showcasing the snowball effect
So hype seeing this live. Norman’s team is so ridiculous when piloted by a human.
Normans team is ridiculous normally

I did not realise how scary Norman is if he’s being controlled by not a cabbage damn that’s actually really hard
Wait...in-game, was Norman quietly throwing to help his kid?!?

I would love to see this in Emerald again but with the roles reversed. Jan is the Pokémon trainer and SmallAnt is the AI. Can Jan get past Norman?
I think it's a great idea
cmon make it rlly hard and do it in emerald kaizo XD
I would like that I also would like him to be the AI against alpharad
they said they wanted that, but it would be some time after SVs release
I love that idea
the random slakoth trainer managing the kill the breloom into Norman's slaking family murdering Smant's entire team because he has no fighting type is some poetic irony
The slakoth lineup don’t fuck around
I mean slaking literally has 670 bst it may as well be a legendary or pseudo-leg the only negative is truant where you can cheese via healing
These two RUclipsrs actually have such good chemistry. Smallant rolls with the punches really well.
Yea, I wouldn't underestimate how nerve racking it feels to know how much harder the run will get if you lose even a single pivotal mon. It's a type-based game so it's hard to not feel like you're falling behind after fainting, or risk of fainting, pretty much anything.
Smallant can't handle the unhinged energy and that shit is hilarious
Pokemon is amazing because you see something new every day. Never once have I thought "what would happen if I switched into a yawn, used dig but had a chesto berry?" But here we are
And never have I pondered what the outcome of that specific scenario would be, but after that exact thing happened I can say for certain I know what happens and it wasn't what I expected
@@KaiTheMemeKing I haven't ran into it either but i bet it is the same in gen 2 as well
Does earthquake hit someone underground if they have levitate? I know the answer to that one because I watch Pikasprey. The answer is no, no it does not.
@@MistaOppritunitythat’s actually a really fascinating and crazy niche thing to know. What a cool thing that I had previously never considered
So I was thinking... this challenge got balanced somewhat with PChal having access to Potions during battle - but we cannot underestimate how ridiculously good it is to have access to _backline healing._ AI Gym Leaders only heal the Pokémon that are out in battle, but being able to sack something and heal the ace in the back at the same time is absolutely a game changer. I wonder how these runs would play out if PChal could only heal the active Pokémon like the original opponents.
Ive had the same though in the first video. backline healing is a massive increase in power for the AI trainers.
I mean that defeats the purpose of their challenge though.
@@PersonaPrime the purpose is to have a human control the enemies as a challenge. That to me means that the human would only be able to do things the AI is theoretically capable off. The AI cant do backline healing.
@@Apfeljunge666 The purpose is of making it more difficult by having a human pilot the resources the AI has. Saying Jan shouldn't use healing items the way that he did is like saying he shouldn't use strategies that increase his chance of winning. It just doesn't make sense.
@@Apfeljunge666 This is a dumb response, because the AI can't do anything that PokeChall does anyways.
AI is programmed only to switch in very specific scenarios (ie no moves that damage). AI would never use Truant swapping, or swapping out of intimidate.
Now is Jan suddenly not allowed to swap because of that? Either he can do everything a human can or only what the AI can, there can't be an in-between.
you're not nuzlocked, you're the nuzlockee

I knew that Norman would be a hard wall as soon as I saw the gen. There's just no amount of preparation you can really make for this kind of set-up. Tanner got close but slak switches and potions is just so hard to prepare for.
He should have preserved breloom, and considered torchic more seriously, combuskin clowns on norman, is 2nd best versus flanery/watson as well. A very good choice.
@@janehrahan5116 maybe if they ever run it back, we'll see how he recomposes his team, but the surprise of Norman being a real threat really only works the first time. When you know it's coming you can take more time to plan around Slaking switches. I dunno if they'll run this version back.
@@Beem0b0t i hope they call emerald a win for Jan and move on to another gen it would be cool to go through all different games and keep score- good storyline
@@janehrahan5116 in case of combusken winona becomes scary unless you get someone to use icebeam on the altaria and then wallace becomes difficult too...
@@speeddemon2901 tbf winona will be scarry no matter what cuz of ddance. jan would beat our asses real good with that one. especially since he can switch out on the ice beam users to pelipper or skarmory. winona is one of the more scarry fights in the ai nuzzlocke
I mean, slaking has the 670 base stats. So even with Truant, he's still kind of a demi god compared to the bevy of 300-400ish base stat pokemon you'd have around this point in the game.
Just the thing is: Protect and Aron destroys this fight because AI doesn't play around Truant. You could go in with literally any pokemon above level 20, teach it protect and have that just for Slaking. But when the AI plays like a human and knows to play around Truant, that is deadly
@@pix985v you cant get the tm for protect until after gym 6 though, so you have to use a pokemon who learns it naturally
@@arlo4707 hence why i generally prefer getting a pelipper

This is my new favorite series. Hope you do this with other Poketubers! The PokemonChallenges vs. WolfeyVGC playthrough like this would be LEGENDARY.
Unfortunately this is SmallAnt's idea, so it's best to suggest this to him lol
Against wolfey, it would have to be romhack, cause the vanila games would be too easy for wolfey to beat. World champ difference.

I NEED MORE JAN COLLABS HIS SENSE OF HUMOR THROWING ANT FOR A COMPLETE LOOP IS PRECIOUS
sad to see it end this early, but it was a super fun concept nonetheless. Id love to see more of this!
As a huge fan of both Smant and PChal, I couldn't help but want both of them to win. I wanted Ant to succeed so that the challenge would go on longer but I was also hoping Jan would wipe him on almost every major battle
PLEASE DO THIS AGAIN. This challenge had the most exciting pokemon fights I have EVER seen. Honestly, I don't even care whether you swap roles/change something else (though if you don't, I bet Smallant will immediately start using Google this time!).
Why is it so fitting that PC beat Smant playing as his character’s father lol
Slaking at that level is such a hard pokemon to deal with when a mid 2000s AI is using it, put it in the hands of the most skilled nuzlocker and you just created the hardest gym battle imaginable.
Damn Norman was hard as a kid but seeing it piloted by a human is incredible. That was an awesome series, kinda want more
The mindgames on the norman fight was crazy seeing it live. I definitely think that you need a special attacker with protect/detect. Treecko fits that perfectly, I think ot might be necessary. Breloom using grass moves and leech seed might also work against the Slaking, but we saw how that went. Maybe also a ghost type, but i dont know if that is available during this stage
It is for sure!
...
with an actual Sableye hahaha
Shedinja does nicely against Norman, but Slaking can hit it with Fain Attack
@@rcube33 if only it wasn't the hardest pokemon to get in that cave 🥲
Protect isn’t available as a tm prior to fighting Norman. Very few Pokémon learn protect before Norman’s level cap, like the Anorith that tanner had. Imo Pelipper is the key to winning this fight.
Jan can just play around Protect easily. E.g. switching out and setting up Belly Drum. He can also just get rid of leech seed by swaping out (what he did all the time anyways).
I love this little series, the reserve nuzlocke is a great idea!
Definitely want to see more reserve Nuzlocke(s), it's an interesting challenge to watch
What a fire series. Would love to see more of it
I will say the editing is a little jarring when it cuts to some other play midsentence. Like 17:14 for instance, i wanted to know what SmallAnt was thinking when he forgot about the Intimidate boost but I'm just nitpicking
Yeah I went back to check the VOD, Smant was saying that the damage should only be 1.5x more than the original damage roll because Slaking didn't have the Intimidate drop anymore.
9:55 the moment Smant realized he had to make the video
This was nuts. Now I really wanna see PC pilot the last few gyms and the elite 4 teams. Basically turn the base game into Kaizo lol
How about Kaizo with Jan as AI?
Just here to say: I love the Combination of Pchal and SmallAnt. It just fits so damn well that!
this was so much fun, really hope there's another run like this in the future
Norman seems to be really tough, but the elite 4? That seems completely impossible with normal nuzlocke rules.
"You don't win, you just do a little better each time"
Just overlevel and gg
@@BioTheHuman Hardcore nuzlockes don't allow for overleveling.
It WOULD be a good idea if that restriction wasn't there, but... that's losing the point of the challenge part..
Man this just reminds me what a monster Slaking really is.
Its not just a monster. Slaking has BST of 670 which is *literally* the BST of some best legendaries such as Groudon and Kyogre.
The only thing that separates it from being a legendary was its truant ability so in this battle, Pchal basically had a legendary in his roster since he could basically cheat truant's ability by switching 🤣
@@Raymart6543 switching is to his disadvantage though, norman is still very difficult but saying that switching makes up for truant is not true, pokemon like slaking or regigigas are never used competitively for that reason
I want you to this with Alpharad, but with him as the AI. That mad man would probably be harder to predict than Smant
That would be such an amazing video!
This series is so good, it's such an original content too, wish to see more of this
When this started I figured if it was going to end anywhere before the credits, it'd be with Norman.
this is easily one of my favourite videos from you!! excited to see more of player vs player nuzlockes, its just so fun
These are a lot of fun to watch. The high stakes of the nuzlocke mixed with the mind games and the highest potential of the enemy trainers is really great content
I’ve never seen him have so much fun before
i genuinely hope you two will get back at it, cause this is really something amazing to see as content ^^
This is some seriously high quality content. Thoroughly enjoying this series and you two as a duo :)
This has definitely been my favorite content from either you or Small Ant. Absolutely fire set of videos. Definitely hope you do another set.
This was amazing, I loved watching both perspectives. I'd love to see more games in this format!
Tragic that it's over already! This was really fun, & I'd love to see another run with this mechanic! Thanks so much for uploading!
This is an insanely cool idea for a challenge run. I remember in another video you said it's hard to coordinate with other streamers to do these kinds of streams but I hope you're able to try this again!
Norman with a brain is the scariest gym trainer
this is still the coolest concept ive seen for a special nuzlocke, i hope you guys (or someone else?) can do more stuff like this
I can wait to see YOU as the nuzlocker and Smant as the trainers Jan, this was fun to watch!
PC destroying Smant with Norman's team was funny
I'd love to see another attempt for SmallAnt to try and win. Or SmallAnt getting to play AI like somebody else suggested
Awh man I would LOVE to see another run of this! It would be awesome to get a series going where Ant has to beat Pchal and then the roles reverse!
Amazing concept and I really cant wait to see more :D
These are so fun to watch! I'd be so happy to see you both try this challenge again in the future.
Jan just saying sorry after wiping the team is so funny

I really hope you do more of these, this has been super cool to watch!
I loved watching this. Would really like to see this with all sorts of RUclipsrs and each of the generations.
I’m waiting for the day Pchal says “6000” hours of experience
So many fights on this double stream were sooo hype.
I feel that you could've cut even less and shown even more, tbh. More of the panic against the accidental Selfdestruct Koffing-Ninja encounter, more of Flannery's scary Torkoal and Overheat (did you actually cut out a death there too?? I don't quite recall...), and just slightly fewer cuts in all the battles, more of the reactions and discussions. I felt like the tempo during the stream battles built themselves perfectly, and now it became a little stumbly at times with some of the small cuts. Some of the reads were cut out in the middle and we didn't see the outcome, which felt weird: for example the 15:28 Anorith part.
But anyway, I still really enjoyed this. I do hope we get more of these someday.
This is insane! Can't wait for more of these types of series, they are insanely enjoyable
Amazing editing in the opening and pacing and editing throughout. Wanted to give you a compliment on that! Really turning out great. Humor is pretty good too!
When you're like: "It would be really fun to see the npc gym leader win beacuse of some good play that the ai wuold not be able to do", but the you're like "Oh shit, he won, no more of this content..."
This video had me smiling from ear to ear. This was so fun to watch lol
i haven't looked to see if theres more of this, but I hope there's more of this. its very fun even from a viewer perspective.
This is such a cool concept and y'all did great, was super fun to watch! Woulda liked to have seen more of the games tho, we'd be ok with a longer video to get the content :))
We need a second try from Smallant vs PChal Nuzlockee! Please make it happen
Hearing Smant yell "what the fuck" was the most shocking thing I'll hear for awhile.
The two of you are a great combo, I'd love to see more of you together!
This idea is so cool, I'd love to see more of these if it's possible to get schedules sorted. Imagine fighting Cynthia like this, or Ghetsis with his Hydreigon
I thought Norman was hot garbage until he gained a soul holy shii idk if i could’ve beat him

Feels like it’s been forever since smarts pt1 so pumped for this
The editing in terms of what's happening in the battles leaves a lot to be desired, like show when Gyarados got paralyzed or what smallants full reaction was when breloom died.

Stilll waiting on another one of these , this is my favorite Pokémon challenge you two have done by far , which is saying something cause I like all of them
Jan really made Smant his son in this one 👀
I don't often have scathing criticism, but whoever edited this needs to learn when not to cut short a clip. If a Pokemon dies we need to see either it's hp drop to 0 or some other evidence of it fainting. There's no guarantee that smant and pchal saying "it died" is actually true given their styles of humor.
And also, showing all of the planning and explanations but none of it playing out. Did he use protect? We'll never fucking know.

small ant is one of the greatest gamers ever.
prove me wrong
I mean... probably not, depending on how many you take into account? Among the top 100.000 or something, sure, that's possible, but I'm not sure that qualifies as "one of the greatest ever".
Apart from very niche world records, the guy is "just" a popular streamer, which doesn't necessarily mean he's particularly skilled, just that he's entertaining. Don't get me wrong: he IS a very good gamer, and I DO love his videos. He's just probably not (yet?) among the legends who are either very dominant in one game or have mastered multiple ones. He's playing too diverse a lineup to be actually amazing (or THE best) at a given game, I'd argue. Again, not saying he's bad, but he's not one of the folks playing one single game 12 hours per day every day. He's an entertainer, and he's great at that, just as he's great at video games. But among the greatest? Nope. I can only recommend you watch some of Summoningsalt's history videos on speedrunning. Those folks, I'd argue, are actually legends. Maybe not entertaining, sure, but they're fantastic gamers for sure.
