Happy holidays!! Procrastinators UNITE!!!..Nnnext week. Haha I’m terrible at putting things off then realizing they’ll take waaaaay longer than I have time for. But the Christmas themed episode sounds fun, looking forward to it! Yay the sewing machine accidental collectors club! Since finding my dream treadle from the thrift store there have been a plethora of vintage and antique sewing machines left there. No room to save them but I dread the fate in store for those old machines. I’m the same with historical movies though my era is 1890-1910 but I know enough about other eras (and just modem hair/make up) to get pulled out of it. BUT YOUR BLOODY HAIR UP!!! Just.. bare minimum please! Your husband making you watch civil war ones so you’ll actively roast the costumes is hysterical. Imagine being able to bring back a full haberdashery with a great selection of fabrics but the shop keep (cashier) comes with and cannot get thier head around the time travel. They stay in the shop give odd looks at modern peoples cloths, and only accept payment of currency from the year (or earlier) that were pulled from. Now you have to madly run around and buy up antique coin and dollar bill collections with modern money at a pretty penny to buy the fabrics and notions of your dreams. 100% with to you on the 1920s!!! I like some fashion from 1890-1950s but absolutely nothing about the 1920s.. I feel so old I can’t just call them “the 20s” anymore since it’s over a century later and people might think 2020s (though I don’t like modern fashion either). Our most used antiques are our kitchen table and chairs. Bought separately but both from 1860-1890s. Table was a steel at $50 and has its original inserts. It had been in the previous owned family for generations and he loved and used it for family get together a but his current wife wanted it gone. He seemed relieved we were so enthused about the antique and not just there for a simple table (we drove 2 hours to check it out and pay for it then needed to find someone to bring it back (because all the rental vehicles were taken for the weekend and the table needed gone asap). I tried to call a family member’s boy friend who happens to have the same name as the seller. Accidentally called the seller asking them to bring the table all casually before realizing it was the wrong person I clicked on from the contact list. Chairs are in good shape, one had some repair on the decorative upper wood work. They use to be caned seats (can see from underside) but at some point they were wired and upholstered (likely 1980s from the fabric choose). Husband likes the fabric, I want to re-cane them myself (already recaned an antique chair from my mother in law that I use when sewing). “Because if I get to suffer knowing we can’t have them any more… then everyone gets to suffer knowing we can’t get them anymore” . I wish just complaining loud enough would bring back the old practices to produce those good fabrics. I’m so slow at sewing and have to much still to make I can’t say I have a favorite anything yet. I’d say my favorite is underpinnings (bass most layers) because if I f*** up it doesn’t matter, no one’s going to see it. If it’s functional that’s all that matters. I like the double bucket yoke photo and the title’s back story. ^^. It’s cool you both got to know your now husbands at that event. I love seeing your “screen hogs”. Lady is so lovely. Cayenne looks adorable! I use to take care of a barn in highschool (doing evening bring in, cleaning, feeding, and closing up) there were a lot of cats and a LOT of inbreeding with medical issues. I was socializing the very feral female cats (only putting food in crates) to get the girls spayed. The owner had already set up with a local vet to do it with the catch spay release program. Then the barn changed hands while I was away for summer and the new owner caught and killed all the cats. I had to stop helping there- the mouse problem had become prolific. I know it’s not funny but the idea of “innocent, herbivorous Bambi” all grown up crunching on a chicken makes me laugh. Also creepy stalker deer watching when you’re gone. Hoping that buck (or doe) is in someone’s freezer and being eaten is also humorful. Thankfully I’ve never had any negative or “stupid”comments or questions. A few nice comments and questions, one person thought I did like you: dressed historically for a job. Which was quite the compliment even though I wasn’t wearing near accurate kind of like history bounding rather than historical dress. I do get the weird looks but I’m good at not giving a flying f*** what people think. How do you leave a review on RUclips? Do you mean just a comment?
Thank you so much for this lovely comment! Absolutely yes about the hair. What do people have against putting their hair up in period movies? It's not that hard. I upload these to both Spotify and RUclips so the review part is mostly for Spotify because people can review it there. Liking the video on RUclips does basically the same thing. Thank you!
Merry Chistmas to you! I'm looking for a hand cranked sewing machine because I have problems with my legs... until I get one I'm hand sewing everything.
Merry Christmas! I know there are some companies that sell hand crank attachments that you can put on a treadle machine to make it a hand crank. It might be worth looking into since treadles are all over the place.
@@KatelynKearns I'm keeping my eyes out for an older machine that I can set on my desk. I saw a treddle once when I was in the midst of moving didn't pick it up... I know better now.
Merry Christmas! Enjoyed the video as always! I have 2 antique machines myself, one 1908 frister and rossman called Precious and one 1900 singer called Darling. Both work great and I use them loads
@16:46 May I ask if you seen the 1963 movie Il Gattopardo (The Leopard)? Even there is a chance you might see faults that many people may not see even those who casually enjoy and know fashion history. The costumes and the ball scene in the end makes me willing to risk to ask if you have watched it, and if not, for me to recommend it to you.
I have not seen it all the way through but I have seen parts of it. What's weird about that one is that they seem to do really well-but they mix and match eras. In the ball scene for example, there's several mid 1850s dresses right along side several mid 1860s dresses which isn't as bad as some others, but it's still weird to look at.
It was pretty but because it was polyester, it was ridiculously hot and heavy. Too much for dancing-I had to keep taking breaks. Silk is SO much better!
Merry Christmas! I am also reading Mary Chestnut's diary...I agree to much politics. Do you think educational levels correlate to the sewing manuals printed? Just a thought.
Someone to commiserate on how boring Mary Chestnut is! Yay! I am so ready to be done with this one. It could be. There was so much going on in that time period that I think contributed, I think it is impossible to narrow down the exact reason.

Antique machines are the best! They are workhorses!
@KatelynKearns Yes they really are! 😊 Never let me down!

A fascinating telescope into your passion and expertise. Great questions and responses were all fascinating! Thank you for a wonderful post!❤
Thank you for watching!
Beautiful hoop dress for your heritage ball!
