That is a gorgeous quilt! I did a hand quilting demo at a local heritage festival in Nov. I chose a Double Irish Chain top, and it has a lot of white also. In retrospect, that might not have been the best choice. I kept it covered in transit to protect it but people want to touch it, especially children. If I do it again next year, I'll bring hand wipes.😊

Hand wipes are a much for that sort of thing! I love how hands on museums have become, but at the same time, it gave the general public the idea that everything is hands on and there is nothing they can't touch or mess with at events or museums, unfortunately.

Your quilt is very pretty, so many plans for this year, how do you decide on what you are making and when? I'm a little in limbo as we're still waiting to move, so I try to crochet but kitten is so mischievous it's hard to get it done before she starts playing with the yarn. Happy New year to you all. ❤

Congratulations one more down two to go on your beautiful quilt!
If it makes you feel better my Mom started a cross stitch project for my husband and I for our wedding 11 years ago and she still is working on it.
I started a quilt about the same time as you, it's spread out on the floor of my spare bedroom so I can tack it down to put in the machine to finish it. 😂.
    Together we got this!!

Happy New Years and Congratulations on 5k+! The deep dive and info on finding resources and fabric, and the other points sounds awesome even if 1840s is not my era I'm sure I'll get helpful tips . I have a few old quilts that need serious mending I really need to get started on...

I have an old family quilt that needs mending as well. I'm not entirely sure it's able to be saved, though.

@@KatelynKearnsI hope you can save them!
One of mine is an 1880s-maybe early 1890s crazy quilt my mother-in-law gave me and ask me to fix. Her great grandmother (I think) made it, she used it as a child for her bed blanket. Some velvet has shattered and disintegrated. I've been given some wool (also from motehr-n-law)that's less than 100 years newer than the quilt I'll use to replace the now gone patches. I also have some scraps of polished cotton from the Edwardian era (came off a damaged petticoat) I'll use for at least one patch. The other is a 'rescue' that has a lot of lace work disks ..doilies but not quite? I'm not sure if they're hand made or mass produced but they're cotton not synthetic. Those and the patches coming loose and need sewn down/together again. Its huge and will take a while, I'll just work on it on and off as I feel like it (using the rest draped over me as a warm blanket in winter while I work).

It's going to be amazing! Looking forward to seeing the finished product. Curious, what do you dislike about quilting?

    • @KatelynKearns

It's the precision of it. I also had an awful experience with some quilting grandmas in 4H that really just turned me off from the whole quilting thing which doesn't help.

@KatelynKearns Makes sense. That's why Aw.. I'm sorry you had that unpleasant experience. Some might benefit from thinking longer before speaking.!
