In this video, I show you what I've been working on over the last few months of summer, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
The focus of the video is centered around 5x7" collage art in my concertina journal. The journal was folded and cut from a large 18x24" watercolour painting on Strathmore 140 lb paper. I 'd folded it up into a "concertina" book after learning from a course I'd taken by UK artist, Helen Wells. Each page is a great background or jumping off point for a 5x7" artwork.
I show how I remove some finished pages from the journal and put them in a 5x7" mat for an 8x10" frame. I also show how I use my "mat kits" to store my finished works on paper.
I pull a card from an art deck called "Wisdom of the Sacred Oracle" by artist, Judy Lanfredi. Also, I pick a card from my own Art Poetry card deck and share my insights into the words and images.
I also show the beautiful book by Stephanie Thomas, "Beasts With A Backstory" and also do a little flip through of some pages from Uppercase magazine.

I would love you to make a video of all of your favourite paints and colors and other favorite ‘tools of your art’ including your favorite color pallets.
Noted😉thanks Dawn
I missed your videos this summer! Your enthusiasm, authenticity, and inspiring art shine so much light. Thank you for being so beautifully and unabashedly you! ❤
Me too, I've been watching and hoping for more - such great ideas and so encouraging and helpful - the BEST!!
Thank you Cindy! That is so kind. Made my day!
Thanks so much Debbie
I thank you for sharing some tips to mat our art. These are helpful, I wasn’t sure about the process.
I'm so glad! There are so many ways to "mat" art but this is just one way I'm learning.
I love your die cut stickers and they would be fabulous for those of us who have filled up all our wall space with your gorgeous art work and still want more! 😂🥰 They could be used on notebooks and journals and any other blank space we can find. I love using the bookmarks of your art that were included with some of my orders and I keep some of your art poetry cards on my fridge in the little magnet sleeves from Michaels you have talked about on some of your earlier videos. Little bits of joy scattered around! I think including these kinds of extras are wonderful and very appreciated by the recipient!
Thank you Cathy. Your comments are so encouraging and inspiring. xx
I love the die cut look! The tips on the mat was very helpful. I love all your encouraging words. Abundance a very nice card to pick. Thank you for the wonderful video. 😊
Thanks to you as always for your encouraging comments.
Oh my goodness, thank you for the taping tip! I've been using double sided tape this entire time on the back of my artwork when I mat my sold pieces! This way makes so much sense especially since like you said, people may want to change out the mat-and it looks a lot easier than how I’ve been taping. Always love your videos! 🥰Here in the US I have purchased the mat kits by Golden State Art on Amazon that includes the mat, backing board and clear bags…
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the nice comment and encouragement.
Thank you for your beautiful and helpful videos ! The stickers look great- I like the die cut look ❤
Thankyou!
Uppercase is a rich and great magazine. Very good tip for framing a piece! I will be using your method for sure. My problem is to get a straight framing with the top and the mat. I can’t get neat borders… 😅 Would you have a trick for that, please? Merci 😊
Thankyou- the only way I can get neat borders is by using a precut foam core mat- instead of the cardboard. Is that what you mean? Or do you mean borders of your artwork inside the mat opening?
@@allisondawrant Neither of those, I am talking about the exterior borders of the core mat and the opened mat. I use double sided tape to fix them together. Do you use glue or double sided tape to fix them together?
Love the stickers ❤!!!
Yay! Thank you!

Thanks for sharing this Cindy.
Hello Allison...your Art work is stunning. Can you tell me the kind of tape you used for matting your art work? I think I missed that part in the video. Thank you ❤
The tape I was using turned out to be too strong of an adhesive. I'll comment when I come across the tape that was given with my mat kit. They sent me the tape for free with my order, so I can't recall the brand.
@@allisondawrant thank you!!
Can you share why all of your cards were in individual plastic wrap . .?
yes, I sold out of my decks and those were the last set I had on display at an art show as a "sample deck" so people could flip through the cards and get an idea of the quality and the art style. Kept them clean and served the purpose:)
