Unedited videos and sharing of inspiration on how to create visual reminders to stay present in the moment and appreciate the beauty that holds the power of connection and evoking change. I believe that everyone is creative and it was not that long ago that I first picked up a paintbrush. I quickly fell in love with the practice and it's become my daily passion that has moved me into a full-time working artist. I have a focus on watercolour, acrylic and mixed media painting.

In this video, I start by picking a card from my Art Poetry card deck, and share a few decks by artist Cathy Nichols. I show you what art I've been working on since my last video, and an example is the Protea theme where we drew proteas on paper, and painted them with watercolour.
I show you some shadow box style frames from Micheals Canada that I like to use to frame some of my artwork or giclee prints on paper.
I selected a Royalty free image from Flickr, of an Iris (Iris Alberti), and I show you how I transfer the image using black carbon paper onto my watercolour paper. I then sho...

I chose 2 sets of primary colours of Beam paintstones, and showed what the secondary colours would look like with each. I also showed a few other favourite colours and we used white to tint the reds and a darker watercolour called Orca to create a...

I just love your poetry paintings! The colors really are dreamy! I’m trying to learn to hush those creatively destructive voices as you learned to do. What paints are in the palette to the right of the Kuretake?
Hi 👋 Alison, just catching up on your video. I have your art poetry deck, which i absolutely love, btw 🩷. I have learnt a technique of shuffling that really works for me. I have very petite hands, my daughter is 11 yrs old and her hands are almost as big as mine 😊. So, instead of holding the deck like a normal pack of cards, horizontally and shuffling them because i can't grab the edges very comfortably like this or if i manage to it's such a stretch because it's too wide for me, i hold them on the sides so they're vertical orientation and then shuffle like normal but from the vertical aspect. It's hard to describe, but i hope this makes sense. Thank you for showing us Cathy's deck also. They are just as beautiful. I love waching your videos. It's so relaxing, my beagle is laid next to me completely chilling out to your voice.
Thank you, so useful to see how you work😊❤
May I ask where you got those stencils? They're really lovely. Love your work btw do much that I bought supplies to try and emulate the style. 😊
Thanks so much. I bought some "stencil girl " stencils from our local art store here in Calgary, at Kensington Art Supply. Hope you can find some you like.
Loved this little piece!
thank you . I'm pleased with how that one turned out too!
WOW how absolutely wonderful. Thank you for your brilliant enthusiasm and kindness, I'm touched and very appreciative of your support. Thank you Allison and I just love what you're up to.... Love Helen xx
Thankyou Helen. You are such a huge inspiration and I just adore your work and videos and style. Your newsletters and videos get me back on track when I'm feeling stuck or in a rut... with gratitude, Love Allison xx

Glad you like them!
Love, Love, Love!

You are so gifted, I love watching your videos❤
Thankyou
These are so pretty. You inspired me, so I purchased some inexpensive inks. I can't wait to play with them. Thank you for always brightening my day!
Thanks for brightening mine back!
hi Allison, I really enjoy your humble, authentic, and deeply sensitive deportment. Your watercolor paintings are really beautiful and remind me of imprints of human souls that are in deep reflection, or gratitude but in an overall peaceful and positive space. If I could see souls or auras, I imagine them resembling something very similar to your work. I have the same thumbs as you, only mine are alot more intense in the width and girth, I have only seen one other person with the 'mysterious' toe thumbs! thank you for sharing your process and work!
Thanks for the beautiful and thoughtful comment , Anna. Thumbs up ❤️
Your generosity blows me away. As does your creativity ❤
Thankyou Linda
Your bracelet is Beautiful 😍
Thank you! 😊
You are an incredibly talented and creative artist, your poetry painting is gorgeous. I feel very motivated and inspired, hope you don't mind if I try your style. Thank you so much for sharing your art.
Thank you so much! I never mind people emulating my style.

Catching up on these older videos: If you're using the #2 watersoluable crayons do you seal the painting w/ a spay, etc. to make it permanent?
Depends what I’m doing with the painting. Behind glass versus glued to canvas, or with other mediums… I like Dorlands wax medium to seal and protect my watercolour art …
You are very inspiring and am grateful for your work! I’m learning so much!
I'm so glad! Thanks
I loved watching you create the little iris painting. The beautiful colors and how they bleed into each other. It helps me too loosen up also. It's my favorite style, but I still need some warming up time to get to that place of really letting go. Thank you for all the flower and drawing inspiration Allison!
Thank you so much! I’m still learning to let go too…
Ohh love that idea of the inktense pencil around the flowers. I’m going to try that. I def have rainbowitis! Your creations are lovely.
Thanks so much 😊
Great inspiration. Merci for sharing your art but orgeats too 😊
My pleasure 😊
Dear Allison, thank you so much for your video! I love your authenticity and of course the soulful art you do.... just wonderful...!🌺
You are so welcome! Thanks for sharing the sunshine 😉❤️
Hello and thank you for being you and taking us with you on your beautiful art adventures! ❤
My pleasure 😊and hello to you Sam❤️
Great ideas!! I printed the image . Does it come out fuzzy?
That's strange- it shouldn't look fuzzy... Are you able to see the basic line shapes? Wish I could troubleshoot that with you but I haven't a clue!
Hello I have just found you and I enjoy very much what you show and explain. Very many greetings from Christiane Berlin Germany 😊😊
Thank you so much! Sending creativity to Germany!
Your videos always make me feel so free to create.. I use your techniques as a way of art therapy! Just love it all thank you for sharing you! 🥰🙏🏼❤️✨
Thanks so much
Your irises are gorgeous ❤. I have your art deck cards and I love them 😍
Thanks so much. I appreciate your support so much.
So clever! Especially the use of shimmery metallics!
Thanks Rae
I have a question about the framing of the watercolor you showed. When you take it to a gallery do you put the glass back into the frame? My gallery is so picky, it requires you always to have wire across the back and always glass over the painting no hooks on the back. Just wondering. I like those frames so much. Will check at our Michael's tomorrow.Thanks.
Yes, same requirements with the gallery I was with… for an upcoming show, they require “s “ hooks, so I use epoxy glue and add my own hooks with wire backing over the cheaper back board. I can send you a pic of that helps… feel free to email me
Thanks so much for sharing so much this week ❤. I was missing you.
Thankyou Terri
I absolutely love this, quite possibly my favourite abstract watercolour video ever ❤....... from Sandy in Australia 😊
Thank you so much! Wow- i have to rewatch it myself now. Haha. That’s the biggest compliment- thanks Sandy❤️
We will always still like you, Alison! You are so generous with your time and talent. And I love your breezy style.... ❤
That’s so much! I like that description “breezy style”
Me too! Love your channel and appreciate your time and inspiration!
@@allisondawrant I just love that you have all of these lovely ideas bubbling up in your head.... an amazingly creative artist 🎨
Love your unedited style of sharing your talent.

YIPPEEEEE! Great to see your latest video, Alison. I'm grateful to have your deck, and Cathy's Oracle Deck. All are invaluable to me. I will continue to watch your fantastic video. 😘❤️
Thank you Liz! Nice to see your name pop up on here. That's wonderful you have Cathy's deck too.
Yay I’m the first person to comment. I loved this video, as always. All of the decks are fantastic but I do have my favourite and think I’m biased! lol xxx
haha. Thank you so much Sasha and hope you're doing well.
I see you bought a Speedball nib, but what size and where did you purchase it? The nib holder from Amazon does not come with nibs. Thank you, Allison.
513Ef globe for industrial arts, by Speedball is all of the info I can find. I purchased it through Amazon Canada in January of this year, but see it is no longer available. It came in a pack of two. (this is the "Bowl"nib). Hope that helps and you can find it!
Hi Allison...I'm new to your channel and really like your content. I think the fact that you don't edit your videos makes them very relatable and I appreciate that. Thank you!!
Welcome Angela. Thanks for taking the time to comment and encourage me with my process. much appreciated.
Lovely video. Just a thought on your dip pen, you can get a set of nibs that give different line weight to extend your pen’s capabilities x
Oh, that's great to know. Thanks for the tip! (pen "tip". haha)
What a great way to start my day! Watching your new video, sipping coffee and working on my birds (inspired by yours). This was really interesting and, as always, helpful, and I love the results of your protea. I totally relate to the collection of jam jars and other bits that may come in handy someday. 😂 And they do!
Thanks so much Cathy! Love the image you have mentioned , as I think of it, of you sipping coffee, and painting, at the start of your day. I love your birds! I'd realized I should have showed you in acrylic inks as well as watercolour! So many options.... so little time. haha. I appreciate you!
I love love, love little jam jars!
Thank you Allison really lovely video. Love the framed photo with all the background texture that looks like branches. Do you have a video where you did this painting or technique? E
thanks so much Angela! I am holding onto this technique for a while as something small to keep in my backpocket... maybe one day I'll share...
Your work is absolutely beautiful ❤
Thank you so much!
I will need to get a water soluble graphite pencil and definitely use the technique with wetting the white colored pencil for highlights! Thank you for sharing your experience!
thanks for commenting Cindy.
Such a pleasant surprise to see a video from you so soon after your last one!! 😮 happy happy me 😍❤️✨
Yay! Thank you!
So glad to see you again ✨ I found the link to Helen Wells concertina style art journal below. I'll be checking this out 🫶 thank you for your inspiration always! Take care ✨
Yes- that is another style of art journaling that she taught in class format. (excellent class) I'd later found out by a comment from a viewer that the sketchbook style I was referring to and showed is called "zine". I guess there are many free tutorials online that also teach this handmade sketchbook style.
@@allisondawrant oh gotcha ! I've been exploring different small handmade books. Oh yes I was introduced to zines a few years ago. They are fun to make and a little easier to fold than the concertina I'm finding out lol.

QUESTION: When using collage over top of watercolor, what can I stick it down with that won't smear my watercolors? Do you apply it top and underneath the collage paper?
you can seal the watercolour collage paper first with Dorland's cold wax medium . (and then use the adhesive just on the underside).
