- Painting intuitive watercolour backgrounds through colour and shapes, and other art and artist inspiration in the form of books, and artist card decks.

In this video I paint some watercolour backgrounds using a variety of my watercolour brands, but mostly @beampaints2512 . We paint abstract shapes on watercolour paper and I show you some of my art journals and works in progress, including my "Art Poetry" painting "Windows of Hope". This is an example of a painting where you can use the background as a base and once it is dry, paint around shapes with a more opaque or contrasting paint medium.
I demonstrate mark making techniques while our background is still wet.
We pick a card from my "Art Poetry" card deck (link to shop below), and also from my 2024 Fodder collage calendar. I share a page from the book, "How to Be More Tree", and it relates to the Hornbeam tree and the theme of authenticity.

Your scribbling with the watercolor pencil, is exactly what Neurographica catharsis is❣️
This video is a good reminder for me to take a break from the news for the sake of my sanity.
I am so glad I found your channel. Thank you for introducing me to Maudie. This brought me joy today.
You are so welcome! That means so much to me today
I loved the movie "Maudie!!" So inspirational!

Thankyou ❤️
I discovered your channel and I'm obsessed! Love, love, love your work!
Yay! Thank you!
I am not sure someone felt the need to comment on your thumbs. You are a beautiful human being and a very talented artist. I have watched every one of your videos and find them very inspiring. All the best Allison.
Thank you so much 😀
My mother had thumbs identical to yours 👍 They indicate a people who have tremendous determination and will. Your fingers signify someone who is very intuitive or even psychic.
Thank you for sharing this, that is neat about your mother sharing my thumb type! I like to believe I am very intuitive and I think my family members and friends would agree I am quite determined too. So cool.
@Ellie.12866 I think it is so cool that you shared this!!!!
@@janc6495 I could say more is she showed us her palms 😉
My son has your exact same thumbs! I think they’re cute.
So cool!
Thank you for sharing your “thumbs” with us every time you play art! ❤️. And thank you for sharing that story about your thumbs. You are a brave woman. 😘
The movie about the artist Maudie is wonderful. I loved it so much and I’m French. The person who criticate your cute thumbs is certainly perfect, more than a top model, don’t worry about these ridiculous comments. You are a kind and very sensitive artist and woman :-)
Oh I loved Maudie SO SO SO much❣️❣️❣️❣️
What a treat!!! And a perfect kickoff to an awesome weekend! Every single thing you do is inspirational! Please don’t EVER change. I’m so fortunate to have stumbled on your channel. Hugs 🤗

HAPPY 10,000 PEOPLE‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
Yes! I can't believe it! thanks Marsha
Wow! You're soooo inspiring! Had your video on while I was painting and it came out beautifully! Too bad it's just in my sketchbook because it would be an excellent 'finished' painting!
That is awesome!
Congratulations!!!! Thanks Allison! ❤❤❤ My hubby and I are doing a paint night tonight… thank you for the inspiration.
That is awesome!
Sarah Rene Clark created those fantastic Color Cubes I believe. So gorgeous blows my mind!!
One artist? I’ll have to read the package- that is amazing . Will have to tag her in my description .
I never even noticed …but when you mentioned this today I laughed out loud. Thank heaven for your big toe thumbs!!!
Haha. Yes!! 😂
I love watching your creative process, and I'm so grateful for how generously you share information. My mom has thumbs like yours and I noticed them because it made me miss her! I'm sorry someone felt entitled to be unkind, but I'm glad you don't let people like that dull your sparkle.
Thank you so much!
I love your Art Deck. What a great idea. I will purchase it later today.
Thankyou ❤️
I love you, and your teaching ,thank you from Everett Washington
Thanks for watching!
I think your thumbs are cute! 😘 I can't believe people can be so rude. I'm glad you don't let such things bother you. Always happy to see one of your videos. Your 2021 circle paintings make me think of dream catchers.
Ah yes- dream catchers. I love that you see those in my “windows of hope” artwork. Great idea for a future painting… and thanks for the thumbs up comment!:)
I love your Windows of Hope and all the inspiration in this video. 💗Congratulations on your 1 year RUclipsversary! And well over 11K subscribers! It has been absolutely amazing to witness the community you have created here. This channel is very special and unique, full of beauty and inspiration. Just like you!
Thankyou beautiful friend❤️
OMG Allison - you mentioned that your Grandparents are in Middleton NS. I was born there - never lived there though because my Dad was military and we moved a lot. But I lived in Berwick for three years recently before moving to Oakbank Mb. I still have relatives in Middleton - my Aunt and Uncle still live there & I have a sister in Bridgetown. I go back every year to visit. I just love NS so much - I wish I could move back there...BTW - I love Maudie's art...
Oh my gosh. What a small world.
I don’t have any family there now with the exception of distance relatives and my aunt and uncle own a cottage on the Bay that they visit every summer. I miss it so much. Thanks for sharing our connection❤️
Thanks
Wow- Thankyou so much for the super thanks. Means so much to me.
Congratulations! Your videos are so inspiring. Love your tips and all the ideas for beautiful artwork. Love Maude Lewis. ❤
Thank you so much!
❤❤❤❤
Jessica 💕
Thumbs Up ! Beautiful Lady, inside and out ❤
Thank you so much!
I have brachydactyly in my left thumb only. I noticed your thumbs right away because I have it as well. My husband calls it my “micro-thumb”! I don’t think it’s hereditary. It’s a congenital defect called brachydactyly. 🥰
Thanks for sharing!!
Not a defect in my eyes! Thats what makes us all special.🥰😍🤩🥰
each time you apologize for assuming you're off topic, you remind me of my own digressions as explanatory embellishments, but dear allison, do not think to apologize further, as yr comments, like your art, make the entire video a work of art. Ty.
Thanks
Congratulation for one year on RUclips 🎉
Thank you so much 😀
My name is Alice. When my husband was still with me. His name was Wayne I always joked about Wayne's World and Alice in Wonderland.
Ha. That’s very cute. I’m sorry Wayne is no longer with you. What a fun memory to have.
I love your videos. So glad i discovered you! I'm sorry if I missed it, what gold material did you encircle your windows of hope with? Was it Daniel Smith or Beam? Which do you like most for circling those? Thanks in advance.
Hello! Oh, for the "Windows of Hope" artwork, I used Golden fine gold paint as well as Irridescent copper (fine) , both acrylic paints. Thanks for your kind comment about my videos.
@@allisondawrant thanks a lot!
Congrats on 10,000! I couldn't find the 'Almanac' deck link. Tfs
Thanks for heads up as I’d forgotten to add it in. it’s there now:)
Good Morning! In one of your videos, you posted the name of the class that you took on creating your own Oracle cards. Can you repost that? Please?
Yes, I took several classes but the most comprehensive ones are here:

You mentioned on Instagram that you have a YT video regarding watercolor on canvas. I haven't been able to find it. Is it possible to please share the link when you have time?
hi! I recorded and posted a video that showed my recent mini watercolour collection on canvas- but it wasn’t a teaching video if that’s what you were hoping for? I share some tips and tricks but I don’t show the process start to finish. Feel free to email me if I can help though- hello@allisondawrant.com
Sent you an email reply. hope that helps, Laurie.
Yes. Thank you so much!
You should see my thumbs.😂. I was born with nail-patella syndrome. I have NO nails, and yes, stubby, double-jointed thumbs. 😁. Believe me, the 60’s were brutal when it came to being a “different” child. I also have no kneecaps, most of my joints are what you’d call “double-jointed”, (although at my age it’s. Called “ARTHRITIS”. 😂). There’s many other things that aren’t visible..unfortunately, I’m racing against blindness.
Thanks for sharing Elaine. I’m sorry to hear that your vision is affected. I appreciate your support on here🥰
