- Don is trying a different method of creating beautiful granular washes! Just when you think you've seen it all, a wonderful new way to create a granular wash is discovered! This technique is credited to the late artist, Nita Engle who was a wonderful artist that I was honored to have met and to consider one of my friends!
Her book "How to Make a Watercolor Paint Itself" is still available on Amazon. You might want to check it out!

I took one of your classes at Cheap Joe's in 2010.
I'm retired and painting every day.
I'm so glad you are making content on the internet.
It's good to see you again.
@@marynellparker1103 hi Mary,,,we're glad to have you with us! Friend Don
I'm a 12 year girl who loves to draw and paint. Recently I been working with watercolors a lot. My watercolors are Crayola brand so they are not the best, but I still manage to make masterpieces with them. I try every technique I find on the internet, and I'll try this one too. Also, do you use watercolor pencils? If so, can you make a tutorial with them because I'm not that good with them. Thanks!😀
Keep going young lady! Ask your parents for better paints as birthday gifts, etc. As you progress you will see how you improve with better quality art supplies and It's exciting to hear of young people being intentional with their art. I have vintage sets of Crayola paints in tins and use them in sketchbooks for painting fun little paintings. The tins are from the 60's, 70's era and are quite lovely.
Hi Julia,,, I don't use watercolor pencils but if you like them by all means use them! I believe Materials are secondary , the most important thing is to draw and paint as much as possible, go to my website donandrewsstudio.com, there are free videos you can watch on design, color harmony, value etc,,, Friend Don
A beautiful painter, love your work and learned a lot from it❤

Hi Nancy,,,,I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Friend Don
Excellent excellent tip about softening edges. This is a game changer!! Super useful. What if the hard edge is on top of a previous wash I don't want to disturb?? Thank you for your advice!
Hi Chantel,,,,,,thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! If the underlying wash is ABSOLUTELY DRY, you can soften a hard edge over it but tenderly! Friend Don

I have a question that has been bugging me. I like Don’s work and have his book. Why does he call these washes “granular”? Doesn’t that mean grainy or rough? Does it have a different meaning in watercolor jargon? Anyone know.
I have been softening my edges wrong. Thank you
Hi Roxann,,,,I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Friend Don

@@DonAndrewsAWS hey Don!! So excited to have found you. I’m working with a photo of rocks submerged 25’ deep in Lake Tahoe. I find your tips helpful for focal point, light and hard/soft edges. A true challenge for me. Thanks for all your wonderful helps.
