Mujdha is among the many women behind bars in Afghanistan’s prisons. She was arrested after her family complained to the Taliban that she had run away from her forced marriage to be with another. Under Taliban rule, running away with a man you are not married to is considered kidnapping, while it is also illegal for a woman to run away from her husband. Footage inside the prison shows women with their children walking the hallways and able to move between cells. Since the Taliban took over Afghanistan, it has emptied many prisons, releasing thousands of convicted criminals.

This is sad. Seeing a mom and her child in prison just because she wanted to decide for her own happiness and chose to do what makes her happy is heartbreaking. Women choosing to stay in prison than with their abusive husbands don't even have any better choice. I hope they all stay strong and live the life they all deserve.

That's probably how they were brought up themselves and think this is the right thing to do probably ignoring the fact that they are miserable themselves and instead of stopping this cycle they keep going. I'm also thinking that the men in the family decided to give her in and I doubt the mother had a say in it. 😳

From what I understood it's both, some are detained because their ran away from forced marriage, so their terrible families called the Taliban on them and others voluntarily chose to go to jail themselves rather than be abused in their forced marriage.

If your partner is that bad, that you would rather be imprisoned, than that partner is the problem. That partner should be imprisoned.
Forcefully giving marriage is prohibited in Islam. Daughter & parents both have to be in agreement.

@Nasser K if the father has no valid reason to reject the marriage, the woman can go to a judge and he can become her Wali after making sure the father has no valid reason. This may have been the case for this woman. Her phrasing is ambiguous.

Arranged marriages are so archaic. The USA divorce rate is outrageously high but at least it is a choice. I almost cried when I heard about the lady that would prefer to be in prison over living with an abusive husband. Archaic indeed!

@NotLDaz that was the husband she ran away with, I mean if a man and wife are the only people in a relationship and the man decides to leave, will he also be jailed or is it only women that are punished in such a harsh way. The man will probably lie and say the wife was disloyal whereas a wife has no power to accuse her husband of anything as the courts are all in favour of men.

This is Un-Islamic . Forced Marriage is a big sin according to the Islam. Nikah (The Islamic term for Marriage) means agreement between two parties. Didn't expected the Taliban to be like this. They said they will run their country according to the sharia law.

@Halim Abdullayev of course an Islamic man is replying. Women have something called wet wives to deliver their children if they don’t have hospitals. Women know how to deliver their children. Again, men trying to make a point about the female body that they don’t know. In underdeveloped countries, wet wives help deliver babies if they can’t go to the hospital. There’s clearly not wet wives here and there are cockroaches literally crawling on the sheets most likely helping spread disease. All they need are clean towels and other women and in that “jail” they’re not getting those resources. And I never said they were rich. But women NEED other women to help deliver their children if they don’t have access to a hospital. This isn’t Shari’a, this is oppression.

I never realized the price people pay just for being a woman, and the culture, from an outsider perspective it seems very medieval aged. I hope these strong women are able to somehow survive and rise from this and give the taliban what they have coming. What a nightmare, I can't imagine. I don't even know what to say.

Woman has the right to choose man as her husband likewise man has also the right to choose woman as his wife under Islam, as number one foundation of merriege, 2nd is the parental consent but not to the extent that parents can force them to marry who they want, but instead, they can only proposed. 3rd is the Mahar or Dowry to the amount agreed upon by both party and 4th is the Khutbaun Niqa.

He said "shari nikah" which means "marriage according to the ISLAMIC principles" which states that a woman cannot marry without her guardian's permission. Woman's consent is also as much necessary.... So, if a woman ran away and marry without her guardian's permission, its not considered a marriage at all

When Allah swt sent down the revelation about the marriage of hazrat "Fatima(daughter of prophet Muhammed pbuh)" and hazrat "Ali", even knowing that it's the will of Allah, prophet Muhammad didn't forced Fatima to marry Ali, he just politely asked her if she's happy with it, when she said yes then he allowed Ali to marry her.

On one hand Forced marriages are prohibited in Islam... They couple can meet through their parents and get to know each other then both the man and the woman have to agree to get married... If the man or woman is forced it's a sin
Also the girl shouldn't have run off with the guy, it's immoral to be unmarried and living together (This is not about freedom and things. But to maintain social discipline. Many Eastern Countries do this even if they are not Muslims. For example it's also prohibited in Hinduism for an unmarried couple to live together)

In Islam, if someone is forced for marriage then the thing called nikah does not held and this is a haram relation. Parents will be responsible at the day of judgment. Prophet Muhammad let a girl get divorce from a husband who wanted to marry another boy but was married to the first man by her uncle. Then Prophet Muhammad sallallahu❤alaihe💕wasallam married her with the person she wanted to marry. Then prophet said; There is nothing better than nikah(marriage) between two lovers.
