I just finished rewatching the buu saga and this time around I realized how supportive and fun Yamcha is. He took care of Marron by covering her eyes during the crazy parts of the tournament. He also was the most supportive of Gotenks when they were first transforming and cheered on each form. He was in his element battling against the universe’s heroes in otherworld along with Krillin. I wish I didn’t take him for granted while growing up, because he’s so much more than a punchline!
He didn’t win against Tambourine, he didn’t even survive via left him for dead luck, Tambourine was literally called away mid-about to-kill to go kill whoever was responsible for killing Cymbal.

@Raiden Dragonball Z Elsewhere (the fanfiction about Yamcha) was make an excellent character development for him and make a new cool moves for him like Kamehameha with Wolf Fang Style. He even use his baseball skills to hit Dr.Gero effectively :)
Its always made me wonder what would have happened if Yamcha wished to be Saiyan. It seems pretty easy to pull off (wish wise) and they go a very long time without using the dragonballs anyway.
People keep quoting the whole "it sounds like Raditz" line from TFS, and I gotta say, that's pretty appropriate. Because the only reason both get shit on is a lack of perspective Raditz was able to effortlessly body the hero and former big bad of the series simultaneously. He wasn't even putting in effort. They never actually beat him in a straight-up fight, Goku had to die just to bring Raditz down with him. Literally everything from the first several years of the series was a pathetic joke compared to Raditz. Bear in mind, Goku hadn't even come back to life yet when a creature as powerful as the one that he had to die to beat killed Yamcha with a fucking surprise attack, and that's what we've spent decades giving Yamcha shit for- being beaten by something that could have effortlessly trounced Goku just a year earlier.
Not to mention that Yamcha wasn't simply equal in power to the Radditz-level saibaman, he was actually significantly stronger than it. Even though he underestimated the power he should have used to finish it off, Yamcha wasn't even out of breath after beating it down.
Then again, Goku beat Piccolo after 3 years of training under Kami at the lookout, and even though he didn't improve in the next 5-year time jump when Raditz arrive, he wasn't weaker than before as Roshi observed. And Yamcha had only 1 Year training at the Lookout between Goku's death with Raditz and the Saiyans Arrival. Imagine, he surpassed Goku's strength that he achieved with 3-years of Training, in just 1 Year of training.
Adding to that, yamcha was off guard and piccolo, the strongest motherfucker with regeneration in the squad during the fight, commented that attack could've killed anyone of them. This is like thinking that piccolo was weak due to being one shooted by frieza when he came back after the spirit bomb, like bro if frieza put effort to it, even goku would've been killed
I still say Yamcha should've been invited in the Universal Tournament, spent his time hiding, then, when Jiren takes out Goku and everyone else, Yamcha shoves a tired Jiren off the stage to win the match.
Actually when db started I liked yamcha the most. I just hoped they would make him stronger and keep him the light till the end. Getting stronger and stronger. He was a nice character.
I mean, he wasn't able to withstand super high gravity levels but if he started with not so heavy gravity and only went up from there he would have gotten the hang of it.

Yamcha for the longest time was the only martial artist that also had a paying job. I have always been a fan of baseball so when I found out Yamcha was a baseball player he became my favorite human character in the series.
I've always thought that a great show would be one that focuses on the "side characters" in more normal settings. A Krillin police procedural. Gohan and Videl as vigilante superheroes. Yamcha's baseball career. Tien mentoring a really difficult student. 18 hussling people. More World Martial Arts Tournaments where the gang have to ultimately let Satan win. There are so many, many opportunities for stories outside of universal stakes and Goku stuff in Dragon Ball.
While he didn’t ultimately get to do anything, I think he deserves recognition for showing up with the intent to help fight King s Piccolo. At this point Goku was MIA, and assume dead, Tien and Roshi had equally disappeared , so here was Yamcha relegated to the C-Team of Bulma and Launch, sneaking into the war zone, and mind you Yamcha’s leg was still messed up, and a pretty big weakness as shown by his earlier encounter with Tambourine. The man literally showed up to try to defend the Earth from the strongest being they had ever heard of at that point, knowing the other healthy martial artsiest had been dropping like flies, and he did so with a broken/injured leg!
Yamcha is strong he's just too cocky. Causing him to train less and get ahead of himself in battle. If he could overcome them problems he might be more successful
I'd say, Roshi, Tien, Yamcha, Krillin, Chichi, Videl, Hercule Satan are all easily in the top 10 strongest humans in the DB franchise. They weren't born strong, they all got here with intense training in Martial arts. I don't count Uub considering he's a reincarnation of Buu, and was born with the same power (also I don't consider him as canon)
I was supprised that hercules never learned any of the ki abilities since living with buu and being related to videl, pan and all of gohans family thought he'd least learn to ki sense and fly

Watching and reading the dragonball manga and anime and so forth, Yamcha was one of my favorite characters. I was so sad with what they did to him and the fanbase calling him a laughing stock. At least they made him pretty dope in dbfighterz.

His attempt to stop Androids 19 and 20. Sure, he got his ass handed to him on a silver platter almost immediately, but that doesn't change the fact that he willingly stepped in to fight them when he knew he was likely outmatched.
actually, he would have been on even ground but two factors played against him: he did not know what the androids looked like and did not know their abilities. All they had to do was grab him and drain his energy. Even vegeta let them do this just to prove how out-matched they were, yet they took a substantial portion of his energy and if I remember right, he demanded a senzu bean

Krillin did not "take on" 4 saibamen. Krillin used an all encompassing blast to attack everyone. The 4 saibamen as well as vegeta and nappa. This is important because it was business as usual to have the power level of your attack far exceed your own. This is true for goku's kamehameha and piccolo's special beam cannon, tien's tri-beam etc. It does not mean they can fight at these levels. Remember, raditz could not allow himself to be hit by either of these attacks. Just one of them would have killed him or severely wounded him. However, he was still easly kicking both their asses at the same time. When krillin began readying his attack, piccolo, who was stronger than krillin, ran and said "you don't want to be here when that blast goes off". That doesn't mean krillin can take on piccolo. You're conflating power level of attacks and power level of the fighter. The saibamen ran from the attack, not from krillin. Stupid I know, but that's the show. EDIT: Oh, the blast didn't even kill all the saibamen lol. 4 saibamen would tear krillin to shreds lol. Plot granted him time to charge his attack. On a regular day his corpse would have been resting on top of yamcha's.
In one of the newest DBS chapters, he said he was the 3rd strongest human if that's anything. But really Yamcha deserves better treatment, he used to be a relevant character, now... Tien too, what happened to him? I know Yamcha's a meme these days but he was pretty strong before. I used to laugh at him too, at how he died from a saibamen but that was a cheap shot, he was clearly stronger than them. Plus Chiatsu pulled a saibamen suicide on another character to kill them and he FAILED yet he's not a meme. Atleast he won the baseball game and he helped out during the Moro arc but that's still not enough. DBS should do justice to the humans, not just Krillin and Roshi and it ain't like they're the most important characters either.

Huge Yamcha fan here He's still a human, and the fact that he can keep up with extraterrestrial beings... Really shows how strong he truly is. Whatever anyone says, Yamcha was and is more than just comic relief. He's lost his shine since the early DB days, But damn, don't underestimate the backbenchers of the team. True moral and physical support comes from them in spades. Also, what's not to love about the awkward and goofy but lovable guy. He's a good friend. That's all that truly matters.

One fan depiction of how Yamcha was underestimated that I really liked was when he challenged Goku to defeat him WITHOUT going Super Saiyan or using any of the techniques he learned after becoming Super Saiyan. It was basically Yamcha forcing Goku to go back to his roots because his "foundation" for all his techniques was crumbling. And much to everyone, even Goku's surprise, Yamcha was right. He forced Goku to go Super Saiyan thus breaking the rule of the challenge, meaning Goku lost to Yamcha in a straight-out, no "superpower" or "God power" fight.
It sucks that a character who was so prevelant in Dragonball got completely sidelined.

Zelda Man nah, vegeta was training in 500x gravity. But namek saga Goku (90,000), struggled a LOT with just 100x gravity
Sin he almost died at a far lower gravity, than vegeta was training in.

I have always been a fan of baseball so when I found out Yamcha was a baseball player he became my favorite human character in the series.

I've always thought that a great show would be one that focuses on the "side characters" in more normal settings. A Krillin police procedural. Gohan and Videl as vigilante superheroes. Yamcha's baseball career. Tien mentoring a really difficult student. 18 hussling people. More World Martial Arts Tournaments where the gang have to ultimately let Satan win. There are so many, many opportunities for stories outside of universal stakes and Goku stuff in Dragon Ball.
But that would be too "boring" for people who dont care about that stuff.

While he didn’t ultimately get to do anything, I think he deserves recognition for showing up with the intent to help fight King s Piccolo. At this point Goku was MIA, and assume dead, Tien and Roshi had equally disappeared , so here was Yamcha relegated to the C-Team of Bulma and Launch, sneaking into the war zone, and mind you Yamcha’s leg was still messed up, and a pretty big weakness as shown by his earlier encounter with Tambourine. The man literally showed up to try to defend the Earth from the strongest being they had ever heard of at that point, knowing the other healthy martial artsiest had been dropping like flies, and he did so with a broken/injured leg!
Yamcha is strong he's just too cocky. Causing him to train less and get ahead of himself in battle. If he could overcome them problems he might be more successful
He's careless sometimes, the main reason he dies at the hands of the Saibamen he easily defeated.
tbh he is easily one of the top 10 strongest humans.

I'd say, Roshi, Tien, Yamcha, Krillin, Chichi, Videl, Hercule Satan are all easily in the top 10 strongest humans in the DB franchise. They weren't born strong, they all got here with intense training in Martial arts.
I don't count Uub considering he's a reincarnation of Buu, and was born with the same power (also I don't consider him as canon)
I was supprised that hercules never learned any of the ki abilities since living with buu and being related to videl, pan and all of gohans family thought he'd least learn to ki sense and fly

Watching and reading the dragonball manga and anime and so forth, Yamcha was one of my favorite characters. I was so sad with what they did to him and the fanbase calling him a laughing stock. At least they made him pretty dope in dbfighterz.

His attempt to stop Androids 19 and 20. Sure, he got his ass handed to him on a silver platter almost immediately, but that doesn't change the fact that he willingly stepped in to fight them when he knew he was likely outmatched.
actually, he would have been on even ground but two factors played against him: he did not know what the androids looked like and did not know their abilities. All they had to do was grab him and drain his energy. Even vegeta let them do this just to prove how out-matched they were, yet they took a substantial portion of his energy and if I remember right, he demanded a senzu bean

@@lazeruslaz8199 Ok you are conflating some things and confusing others. Firstly, saibamen had a power level of 1000. Not as strong as raditz but not important for this discussion. Krillin did not "take on" 4 saibamen. Krillin used an all encompassing blast to attack everyone. The 4 saibamen as well as vegeta and nappa. This is important because it was business as usual to have the power level of your attack far exceed your own. This is true for goku's kamehameha and piccolo's special beam cannon, tien's tri-beam etc. It does not mean they can fight at these levels. Remember, raditz could not allow himself to be hit by either of these attacks. Just one of them would have killed him or severely wounded him. However, he was still easly kicking both their asses at the same time. When krillin began readying his attack, piccolo, who was stronger than krillin, ran and said "you don't want to be here when that blast goes off".
That doesn't mean krillin can take on piccolo. You're conflating power level of attacks and power level of the fighter. The saibamen ran from the attack, not from krillin. Stupid I know, but that's the show.
EDIT: Oh, the blast didn't even kill all the saibamen lol. 4 saibamen would tear krillin to shreds lol. Plot granted him time to charge his attack. On a regular day his corpse would have been resting on top of yamcha's.

But really Yamcha deserves better treatment, he used to be a relevant character, now...
Tien too, what happened to him? I know Yamcha's a meme these days but he was pretty strong before. I used to laugh at him too, at how he died from a saibamen but that was a cheap shot, he was clearly stronger than them. Plus Chiatsu pulled a saibamen suicide on another character to kill them and he FAILED yet he's not a meme.
Atleast he won the baseball game and he helped out during the Moro arc but that's still not enough.
DBS should do justice to the humans, not just Krillin and Roshi and it ain't like they're the most important characters either.

@@powertothepeople3820 I personally think it's more because Chiatzu was less relevant than Yamcha so he doesn't come to peoples' minds when it comes to weak characters but that's another reason, Chiatzu sacrificed himself a couple episodes later against a stronger opponent than the one that killed Yamcha. But even so, even Piccolo said none of the Z fighters would be able to break out of the Sabbaman's grip, plus Yamcha did beat it. But it's what it is...

He's still a human, and the fact that he can keep up with extraterrestrial beings... Really shows how strong he truly is. Comparing him to Saiyans, Namekians, etc. sure he isn't quite up to par, but comparing a HUMAN to other HUMANS, he's no doubt with Krillin on the strongest humans ever
back in the regular dragon ball yamcha was my favorite adultish character he has some of the coolest techniques in the games aswell.
What about in the Android Saga when Yamcha saved Goku's life by getting him to kami house and giving him the antidote for the virus? That's pretty heroic, i mean before that Yamcha got a whole arm through his chest and almost died.

One fan depiction of how Yamcha was underestimated that I really liked was when he challenged Goku to defeat him WITHOUT going Super Saiyan or using any of the techniques he learned after becoming Super Saiyan. It was basically Yamcha forcing Goku to go back to his roots because his "foundation" for all his techniques was crumbling. And much to everyone, even Goku's surprise, Yamcha was right. He forced Goku to go Super Saiyan thus breaking the rule of the challenge, meaning Goku lost to Yamcha in a straight-out, no "superpower" or "God power" fight.
