I’ve been doing cakes for almost 10 years and have to say this was the most detailed and helpful video I’ve ever watched on how to stack a cake. Would have loved something like this way back when I was just learning. Great job!
This is best tutorial I’ve ever seen! It’s extremely comprehensive. There are so many tutorials that show making layer cakes but fault to mention anything about the use of dowels. That is an absolute essential when making a layer cake and I can only imagine how many people are trying to make a layer cake and wondering why their cakes have slid sideways or have been crooked!
Thank you so much for your amazing tutorial, Brette! I will be thinking of you as I try your method and appreciating all the help you gave me! May you continue to enjoy your talents and your baking business! You're a doll! 💖
I've looked at a number of videos for the same advice, and yours is excellent! I wasn't sure about the dowel/straw decision, but you've convinced me to use dowels, and you explain how many per layer - so helpful. Inserting a pointed dowel in center at the end through layers and through the cardboard is great b/c, as you said, aligning predrilled holes is more stressful, I think. I'm excited to try this for my first 2-tier cake. I would LOVE to see how you box this 3-tier and how you deliver in your car. Thank you, thank you.!!❤
Thank you so much for this video!! My daughter wants a 3-layer cake for her birthday this weekend and I’ve never done that before. This has given me all the info I need!! ❤
Oh my GOODNESS!!!!!!! WOW WOW WOW THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH. I'm doing my 1st 2 tiered birthday cake on Saturday. I was feeling a bit nervous but now I feel I GOT THIS!!!!! THANKS
My daughter asked me to make her wedding cake 😮Although I’ve made birthday cakes for the family, this is a scary new venture for me. I found your video just in time to make a stable cake that won’t fall over. Love your patient & instructive method. Thank you ❤
Hello, From: HOUSTON, TEXAS, IM SO glad I found your channel , I do only a cakes for my grandkids and I know i have sp much to learn by seeing you in this video, I learned alot, I'm going to watch your other videos! You are a joy to learn from, GOD BLESS YOU AND FAMILY!!AMEN. TYFS 😊
Love this detailed video!! Helped me a lot with the three tier I made yesterday 🙏🙂 Could you please make a video on transporting a tiered cake using that foam box AC connecting pipe system you use? Thank you so much ❤
I'll be getting one of those palette knives for sure! My regular scraper doesn't let me get in there close enough, and I wasn't sure how to overcome that. Thanks!
Great video and love the amount of dowels for the size of cake above. Not sure i have the confidence to push that centre dowel through those boards, fear of collapsing 😬
The absolute best, most helpful and indepth video. I just happened upon this video and so glad I did!! Can't wait to see your other videos. Happy new subscriber here! ❤️
what an amazing tutorial,so detailed and i love the way your a human who makes mistakes like the rest of us,not sure i would have the courage to use the central dowl like you do because the cake cards in the uk are thicker and would probably bend in as you try to push the rod down..Love the little tool you are using, could you let me know what it is called please..thank you for taking your time out to show us your wonderful tutorial and i am happy to become a new subscriber, looking forward to watching more x
I am using MDF board so when I insert the central dowel I won'T be able to poke it inside my board will it be sturdy enough. Thank you this is on of the best tutorial that I've seen
That was an excellent video and tutorial. Thank you so much. I am working on my very 1st wedding cake and you answered the questions that i was searching for to fill in the gaps of my knowlege. Great job.
I have an 8 teir wedding cake to make with so many bases at the bottom below the 8teir and this video is so detailed I believe am good to go....thank you so much
So happy to have found this wonderful tutorial and channel… Question: How do you find a dowel long enough to go through all your layers? ( the 1/2” one you pierced through the center ? Thank you!❤
Is there a reason not to use just one dowel marked and cut then use that to measure the cutting so they don't all have to go in and come back out for cutting? Assuming it is a level cake anyway . I'm new at this so I love this tutorial! So helpful!
I definitely need this video I made my first three tier cake today and it slid everywhere The buttercream melted The fondant wound up getting cracky and quite literally fell apart the buttercream sliding down wound up taking chunks of the cake out omg It was a wreck It did turn out looking nice if you didn't look too closely lol I don't know if I can add a picture into the comments but I'll try. Nope doesn't look like I can
I need to make a 10 inch, four layer cake, just exactly like the bottom one of this cake on your video, so without the other tiers. I have never made a tall cake like that. Should I use about the same amount of dowels that you used on this one, even though there’s not going to be another cake on top?
The one time I did a tiered cake, I would have loved this tutorial. Although it did stay upright and structure was ok, it got weird bubble things sticking out between layers. Any idea why that happened? I know they were air, but how come mine had that and yours doesn’t? Is there some trick to avoiding them happening?
Was für eine tolle Arbeit, deine Kuchen sind so schön glatt. Kannst du mir dein Rezept der Buttercreme geben und Tipps wie man alles glatt bekommt? Leider hab ich nicht alles verstanden.
Is the bottom tier on a cake board and then on the drum, or was it decorated on the cake drum? Also if it’s not directly in the drum, what do you use to secure it to the cake drum? Buttercream?

Cakes tiers have gotten taller and taller! I am needing to make exactly that combination 10, 8, and 6. How many servings is that?
Hi do you use the same size cake board for each layer or do you trim them
The one time I did a tiered cake, I would have loved this tutorial. Although it did stay upright and structure was ok, it got weird bubble things sticking out between layers. Can you dowl cake and then pop in freezer before ready to travel so can be stacked at venue

Is the bottom tier on a cake board and then on the drum, or was it decorated on the cake drum? Also if it’s not directly in the drum, what do you use to secure it to the cake drum? Buttercream?
