    BROKEN PS5 From eBay - Can I Fix It? + M.2 SSD Upgrade - I'm trying to fix a broken PS5 that I bought on eBay. The seller accidentally tore the fan connector off the motherboard so now the game console overheats. And if I'm successful in repairing the fan connector I'm going to show how to install a GIGABYTE AORUS Gen4 7000s SSD into the M.2 slot.

    The skill is incredible. It's only when you see the connector zoomed out, that you realise how tiny the pads were. Great work.

  • @SkyfighterZX
    @SkyfighterZX 2 года назад +157

    I guess if that pad was totally gone forreal, the only way to fix is was to steal power from somewhere else to power the fan constantly, not the way it's supossed to be but would save the console at least, that was some nasty broken traces, you did an amazing job

    • @Tronicsfix
      @Tronicsfix  2 года назад +85

      If that were the case you could use an ohmmeter to find where that circuit is (hopefully close by) and run a trace to wherever you find it. Not ideal but it would work.

    Wondering if adding a solder mask would help stabilize the pads? I’d be nervous too if I ever needed to get that fan off again. Great fix!

    • @Tronicsfix

      Possibly but usually mask doesn't help much with strength.

    • @andymouse
      @andymouse 2 года назад +2

      No, solder mask would add nothing in terms of strength and you are right to be nervous ! surface mount connectors are just to be avoided unless you can see mechanical mounting points that are 'through hole' if you do have to do it try to get something to hold the bottom part as well and be very slow and wiggle very gently and you will be ok, most problems occur because people don't have Steve to show how it should be done and just rip the bloody things off, now that you're aware you will have no problems at all !..cheers.

      Easy: just cut the cables and make a new connection /junction

      Solder mask wouldn't help too much. I'd probably use epoxy in this scenario on both sides of the connector.

    Epoxy or a PCB silicone is always good for holding these sockets in place..Used it many a time

    Nice fix Steve. I was just browsing ssd for ps5. What zoom was your microscope at? The only reference frame I could gather was the flux tip that looks like a 6 inch metal bar.

      I don't actually know. It's a new microscope so I'm just learning how to use it. It's a digital scope so it's all new to me. I can say that it was zoomed in quite a bit.

    you can also clear up that hole and use a wire to solder te connector to 4:43

    I saw this on eBay back in October. Made several offers on it but then it sold. For the full asking price of $600. Shipping to my location would have been another $106.75. The seller broke their system and still made money on it. Ridiculous. Console repair is literally not worth it these days for small scale opportunists
