  • I Bought a REFURBISHED PS5 From GameStop - I Was Surprised! I paid $459 for this PS5 to see what they did to refurbish it and what the quality is like. The console they sent me says "Pre-owned" not "Refurbished" so I was even more interested to open it up and see what it was like on the inside.

Gamestop employee here! The box is pretty much the exact same for consoles that we take in in store and consoles that are refurbished at the ROC. The only difference is that the in store boxes dont have the inserts and I wish we did. I too hate that consoles are sanded at the ROC but sometimes its a necessary evil. Also, sometimes “refurbished” consoles dont actually have anything wrong with them. If theres something wrong with the controller, we apply a refurb fee to the unit as a whole which means everything, including the console itself, gets sent to our refurbishment center

so as a person who has spent time at GameStop refurbished means something is broken, whether its the controller, cables, or console it wasn't in working condition at the store and they will mark it as defective, send sent it off to the ROC to get repaired. they then either sell them on the website or send them off to stores to be sold.

  • @OnlyForTheW3ak
    @OnlyForTheW3ak Год назад +6

I'm not any kind of repair tech or anything, but the changes they have made, that you mentioned, that help the repair process of the console might actually be in part for that reason. Because EU made some new guidelines that are mandatory for companies to follow should they want to do business in EU. These new guidelines are to improve repairability of new electronic devices and availability of spare parts for said devices. Again not sure this is the reason, but it certainly sounds like first steps to that direction at least. Nice video once again! :)

    Hi All,
Gamestop employee here, one of the reason that sanding happens is if debris is spilled all over the console. Some of the consoles, we've taken in trade that go to warehouse for refurbishment are nuts. I took one in that was covered in purple glitter glue. There was no getting it off and we can't sell it as preowned to other customers in the store. Also, we get a lot that have stickers on them. We try to peel them off if possible but we cannot sell them as preowned if there are issues like that on the outside casing and they go to warehouse for cleaning. Also, as another said, if it doesn't have all the items with it, it goes to warehouse to be labeled as refurbished so they can pull the missing pieces from inventory.

I've worked at gamestop for 2 years and (at least where I'm from, dunno about NA) we just say "refurbished" to look good, in reality when we do a trade-in for a second hand console we check that it works and that it has every accessory, if it doesn't we charge for the missing accessories and send them to the "refurbish team" that just adds all the missing parts (like if they don't have an hdmi cable or a controller), we don't actually repair any of the consoles that we get from customers, they should be already working the moment we get them, if they have all the pieces we can just sell them as soon as we get them from the customer, we just initialize them, clean them and box them (most gamestops skip the middle one tho cause they suck).
PS: also most ps5 we get second hand are basically new so it's no surprise this one was good, it's not gamestop, it's just the persone who had it before treated it right.

Yeah, i had no idea that stuff oxidized. I always assumed the benefit was that it was maintenance free, and also performed a bit better.

@@volvo09 the benefit is that it is harder for you to do it at home increasing the chances of you buying a new one or at least pay for them to fix it.

So wait. I have a question about this liquid metal stuff and the scrubbing and the oxidation. Does it mean that every body that owns a PS5 has to periodically open their consoles to scrub the metal and remove oxidation and dry spots?

      Yes you definitely should.
Final fantasy 16 has started to overheat consoles, games will only get more demanding of the hardware as time goes on.
If you notice that scrolling through ps store the games tiles don’t appear right away anymore that could be a big indication of a dry spot I feel.
Make sure you go all the way and clean out power supply and big heatsink under motherboard.

I am actually considering to replace the liquid metal with Arctic MX-6 thermal paste, once I have to open it up due to overheating.

@@MyRegardsToTheDodoit definitely doesn't work with paste, has already been tested, the console overheats

Can you make a youtube video called "What Happens if you remove the CMOS battery from the Playstation 5"?
To Tronicsfix, since you've been taking apart and putting back together PS5 Disc consoles, can you make a video where you remove the CMOS battery and then try out Playstation 4, and 5 games and see if they'll play. I want to know exactly what happens to PS4 and PS5 disc based games and how they're affected by the removal of the CMOS battery. Let me know if you plan on making a video about playing PS5 games without the CMOS battery and internet connection.

I'm so confused by the sanding.. I've never seen this (in the UK at least). Seems nonsensical

Imagine that they sent a decent shape machine to a famous youtuber.
Let a friend buy it and then make a review.
Ive had nothing but trouble with their "refurbished" sh..t.

I never buy used consoles never will. Much rather pay the extra to have a brand new one.
