Simon I used to use that exact same mud mixer, maybe i went through 200 of them in my career so far. I don't need to tell you how frustrating that mixer can be when trying to get the wet top half mixed with the dry lower half. Last year I bit the bullet and bought that G06160 Mud Monster Spiral Concrete Mixer for only around $50 and it will blow you away it mixes so good and easy. Its a lot better than the one with no ring at the bottom with the gripper handle in the middle of the shaft. Hopefully you see this video and buy it.
Hello, I have seen others put in wire under the drypack for strength. I realize with a pvc liner, you run the risk of puncturing the liner, but if you would run some blue tape around the perimiter of the wire and then install over the pvc liner before putting in the drypack, would you recommend this? Thanks!
You don't need wire in your pan. To strengthen shower pan I use one single piece of heave duty fiberglass mesh(you can get it from stucco supply store) If you install your blocking between 2x4 using 2x6 or 2x8 helps a lot. Thanks for watching!
The drypack was presloped, I've watched ALOT of pan videos this is the best one there is multiple layers of protection, I know the pan that was put into my shower is going to leak, fortunately it takes a long time to show up, and we don't use that shower very often at all maybe 2x a week tops
I got my pre-slope in a couple of days ago. I’m doing the pan liner today. I’m following your video. After the dry pack is down, how long do you wait to put the water proofing around the pan edges? Then I assume a day later it would be ok to set the cement wall board? (3/4” above the dry pack since my tile are almost 1/2” thick)
@@curtisprice7133 You want to do it after pan dries. After installing cement boards you can apply another coat when you waterproofing cement boards. Good luck with the project. Thanks for watching :)

Hello Sam, when building a shower pan, can the height of motar around the drain be less than 1 1/2 inches?
yes. 1 1/2" is a maximum thickens. Fully extended drain is 2" if your pan is 1 1/2" thick you will have 1/2" room for thinset and tile.

Just thinset and tile. You don't want to use a waterproofing membrane on this type of pan.

@@thelog86 Use a good tile sealer. I might give you some protection. Silicone corners with silicone that matches your grout.
Just use a steel pan, last forever, save all the work and it will still leak

Walls go after. Walls should not be embedded
You can build a shower pan and then install cement boards.
