    As noted in many of the other comments, me thinks that you need to start over and do it right. Either that or hire a professional. But I do applaud you for trying to do it yourself!

    As a Tile Contractor this is tragic not going to lie. The silicone under the liner is correct but the silicone on top defeats the purpose of the rocks being for drainage. You covered the weep holes making your preslope useless. The Deck mud was to wet even for the pre slope and I’m not even going to mention the final slope. All in all we all start somewhere and in your case you’re better off spending $400 on a schluter pan than spending $250 to do it this way. Best of luck.

      you gave a lot of examples of what is wrong, but not why it is wrong. what will the net result be?

    • @TonyVM775
      @TonyVM775 Месяц назад +8

      @@tyrelirwin The weep holes being siliconed will result in excess water being absorbed by the deck mud every time they use the shower. Making it smell like mold and eventually leaking due to standing water being present. The deck mud being to wet makes it less strong and it will eventually crack and crack grout lines on the tile floor and walls from movement.

    Don't want to rag on you Mike, as most of your other work is fantastic, but this shower is likely to have problems down the road. As another comment said, blocking the weep holes with silicon is a big no-no in this kind of system, and those funky corners in the liner may give water a way to wick into the wood curb and rot it out. There are plenty or great tile and construction professionals here on RUclips with excellent content on how to do one of these the right way- and it ain't easy even though they make it look that way. Plenty of other waterproofing systems for you to consider, so I'll agree with the other commenters who advise you rip this one out and re-do it after you do some research and consider what other options might be better. You'll get another video out of it and us DIYers can get the benefit of your mistakes. We all make them!

    Wow the level of negativity in the comments had me speechless for a bit.
    Look I get that maybe the build was not perfect and that I think for the base is worth contracting for but I truly appreciated seeing a view of “shower making”.
    I will also say that I have seen worse builds online.

    I’ll give you the comment to help your algorithm. I highly suggest watching some videos by the tile coach. Then rip this out and do it right there is going to be a myriad of issues with this down the line.

    Come on dude. You know this is half assed and not the proper way to do this. Buy yourself a shower pan and some schluter water proofing.
    And before anyone responds saying this is how they used to do it. Yes. This is how preofessionals used to do it, with years of experience. Even then a lot of them leaked.

    This is a terrible job... If I were you, I'd tear it out and start over. This whole thing was a cheap way of making the floor for a shower and you will end up having to redo it in a couple of years because it will fail.

    You did not property put nail guards for all the electrical wiring in the walls. You don’t put mortar against any wood surface. The drain isn’t correct either. You didn’t the water lines either.

    • @cameronbarber3768
      @cameronbarber3768 Месяц назад +2

      Edit: he did have mortar against wood around the edges, but I can't be for certain how big of an issue that is.
      1. He didn't put mortar against any wood surfaces, he used it above the wire mesh that was on top of the tarp paper and then over top of the membrane. 2. The drain is sloped as it should be for that size of shower and installed correctly. 3. The water lines aren't going to move so he didn't need to mess with those at all. Even if he did he still has access behind the blocking he added to make any adjustments. 4. Also there wouldn't have been any need to add nail guards below the mortar line but above there should be but it's not too late for that.
