Last shower i did, i did not use any rubber liner. I built my curb (wood, cement board, then thinset and mesh to fill out, smooth and make uniform) and preslope. After which i coated the curb and pan with Red guard 3 times (same thing as aqua defense except Red) After that i put my final slope, coated everything in RG again and then tiled over that. Hopefully that made sense. This was all done over a concrete slab.

ur the best @simonproatl , quick question, what if i want to install a shower door on the curb would i still angle everything towards the pan? or would i want the curb to be flat and level?

Thanks for the great video! My 2inch ABS riser coming through the concrete floor is not perfectly vertical. A typical ABS welded connection to that pipe would end up with an 1/8 inch deflection from horizontal at the drain surface :( ..is there a solution other than jack hammering there entire area to replace the U trap and riser?

Floor Mud Mortar, but home depot is out of stock everywhere in my area, but they have the sand topping mix, are they equally the same or should I look for the sakrete one instead? maybe lowes has it?

great videos Simon! question about this one but are we not putting screws into the concrete after it sets or are we just relying on the concrete to hold the drain flat/level after? Just cause in the video the 4 bolts you have are for the pan liner i guess and the other 4 holes would be to screw into a wood subfloor? are we just ignoring the extra holes using this method?

Looks like you applied the thinset over the waterproofing membrane before it dried then painted another coat of waterproofing membrane over the thinset before it dried. It would seem that once the outer layer dries it will encapsulate the wet thinset and never fully harden. What do you think.

Hi. Do you have to put a pre-slope below the dry pack? I was planning to do a dry pack pan thats sloped to a flo fx drain kit. Its going on a slab. Can i just do a sloped dry pack pan, then use the waterproof membrane, then tile? Thank you for making great video.

Very helpful. I hadn't thought of painting on waterproofing before the PVC liner, but it makes sense. I have plenty of Redgard so might as well. A couple questions: Do you need to use adhesive between that preslope and the PVC liner? And do you allow any drying/curing time for each layer before doing the next?

In my basement I have a 2pc shower drain system (the ones used for pre fab shower pans) and was previously installed with a mud shower pan and liner Obviously that is not the correct shower drainage system So my question is , Would it be better to dig out and cut the pipe to have a 3pc drain system installed ( the one with weep holes for the pan) liner ) or is there such thing as an adapter where I can screw an abs extension and install one of those new flo fx drain system which are made to avoid the pan liner and pre slope ? Either way if it sits and adds any height above the concrete slab ,my shower pan mud can be raised and curb height to make up for it

Hi thanks so much for your video ! I found some fiberglass mesh but it is in rolls that are about 10” wide. Do you think I could still use it if I lay 5 lengths of the 10” strips next to each other and embed them in a thin coat Of thinset? Or do you recommend that I keep looking for one solid piece of fiberglass mesh?
