I FINALLY FIXED MINE...i re downloaded itunes directly from the website, even though i already had the latest version. Installed it and as soon as i plug in my phone is said i needed an update to use the iphone X. (another update?) installed that updated and it WORKS! itunes now recognizes my phone and currently am restoring it.

Thank you. iTunes updated on PC as you suggested and then, as part of this process, updated software on iPhone. It took a while for updates to install, but phone identified afterwards and videos etc. could be copied over to PC. Apple's on-line prompts followed to the letter.

Just bought IPhone xr. It had my playlist from ITunes on it but no songs. I spent almost 2 hours on the phone with Apple. The 1st person had me to do everything but stand on my head and it still didn't work. She put her supervisor on the phone and she remoted in to my pc (windows 10) and also my phone. I went to the device manager on my pc and searched for Apple driver like you said. Then I completely uninstalled ITunes for the 20th time. I went in the Apple Store and downloaded it again. Was so afraid I was going to lose all my music in my library but when ITunes came back up everything was fine. Plugged my phone in and the option to import my pictures came up. went to ITunes and there was my phone icon. I synced my playlist and everything went fine. Thank you guys. There was another video that I truly believe had the same idea but unfortunately he didn't speak English too good and I couldn't understand what he was saying. Thank you again. You guys are truly experts. Apple would be lucky to have you on their team!

I found the fix. If you update from app store on mac most likely its corrupted. Re download and install a fresh copy of 12.8 from the official website apple.com. Once it installs, open itunes and connect iphone. Now! It will prompt you that in needs to install a driver for iphone to work! Done deal :-)
After the last update, my iphone 7 no longer works for Carplay in my car and it is not recognized when I plug it into my macbook. I tried all these suggestions to no avail.
I upgraded to the latest iTunes (12.9.1.4) from one version back on my Windows 10 PC. That's when the problem first appeared. I then upgraded to the latest iOS (12.1) from one version back on my iPhone 7, restarted my PC and iPhone, reset the setting, etc; no joy. Downloading the latest Apple device driver fixed the problem. Nothing in the upgrades and installations indicated that I needed a new driver.
I got it to work after like a hour of fiddling by updating a driver. Check your drivers, my laptop was recognizing the phone but iTunes wasn’t. If you want to know how go to >Device Manager >Universal Serial Bus devices > and I updated all drivers from there and one ended up needing to update fixing my problems
Anyone having a problem with your iTunes recognizing an iphone x s or s max , it’s most likely because you’re running a version of iTunes that was written before these devices existed and therefore your new phone may as well be some android phone because it will not recognize it. Just update iTunes and it should work fine
May i suggest another tips for Windows user, if you still can't connect after trying all the above but noticed you are missing the "apple mobile device USB driver" you can get it fixed by disconnecting from your account in iTunes and then use another iPhone to connect. I had that problem after updating to iOs12 after i plugged my wife's iPhone the driver got installed et fixed everything
If your phone is recognized but iTunes isnt showing it, it might be because you have another usb plugged in. I took out my mouse usb, took the charger out of my phone then put it back in, and it worked.
You probably found your answer already, but just in case this helps someone else: mine wasn't under universal serial bus controllers, but under "mobile phones" (probably not exactly what it says but my pc is in French) which is the first slot that appears (at least for me it's in first since it starts with an A in French, might be further down but look for something phone related and not just usb related). After that, you can do as said in the video. Hope this helps!
@@erijonmehmedi I hunted the internet for days - uninstalling, reinstalling, downloading patches, changing settings, turning phone on/off a dozen times or more...nothing helped. One site said to try holding the on/off button AND the volume button on your iphone at the same time to power it off(mine's a iphone7). I tried that and it worked!! Have not had any other issues since. Good luck.
