You realize this could be applied to so much more than just career choices, right? The first thing that popped into my mind was having prototype conversations with immigrants living in various countries before choosing where I really want to live.
Design Your happy Life, No joke, im actullaly working at my written papers of the university course "Design Your Happy Life" which is based on this book. You did an awesome job. Keep it up :D Greetings from germany AlltagsPsychologie
Prototype conversation. Why multiple internships are so critical. I want to be a psychologist however I’m not sure if talking all day about people problems will drain me
I could make one statements rather than thousand ones about this channel , That is " This channel really helping me in my development" Thanks #Productivity Game
Excellent video!! You're a great teacher -- I just read this book on the weekend and I really like how you broke down the information in a clear, succinct way! I'm actually a published author myself, I wrote "P.S. You're a Genius: an unconventional guide to finding your innate gifts (even when you feel like you have none)." (BenBella Books, 2021). I'd love to send you an e-copy! Let me know if you'd like one. :) Thanks for all of your hard work!!
My optimized life: fitness instructor (my job rn) My alternate life: fashion designer (currently a hobby of mine) My fascinated life: figure skater (my absolute favorite thing to do)
hey thanks. Step 1 is so awesome and insightful. Like figuring out what specifically energized me and building my career in it. Absolutely awesome ways to decide career.
Love your content. When I was a med technologist student going into the practice in the hospital, we had 12 departments with also people graduated from my department coming back giving us lectures. I went into every department asking everyone what the life of a med tech there are like, do they enjoy there life and what would they choose if they had a chance to choose. I discovered that I dislike the life working in the hospital, and later took on a job as a patent writer. Though nowadays I am not a patent writer, and are currently in school studying again..
Good job mate. I actually did the exercise as I was listening (9 min video turned into 2 hours :P). There are SO MANY BOOKS I want to read that it reached rediculus levels, so what you did here saved me good amount of time and effort. Thanks :)
The course originated from Stanford this it will biases to those who by default have inherited more life options from their parents, the lawyer, the restaurant owner, the civil engineer all example of people who are already successful rather than those who work from necessity rather having a litany of choices.
Designing your life, similar to strengths-based career choices, both are significant in my career coaching practice. Knowing what is your strength/ what energizes you is foundational. 1000nudges.com/
Really cool how they came up with this model for finding a good work/career for yourself. I kind of wish they spent more time applying the same ideas to the rest of your life outside of work, as well
Out of all the book summaries on RUclips, no one does it better than Nathan at Lozeron Academy. Here is why 1. His summaries capture the actual highlights of the books without injecting too much of his own opinion into the summary. The problem with this is that you are unable to then discern what information is coming from the author or from the person summarizing the book. 2. His summaries are the perfect length , about 10 minutes. 3. HIs narration is sounds very good to ear. Excellent english, nice tone and concise summary. 4. His written highlights below are very helpful.
Really enjoyed this one Nathan. Sincere thanks for the value you provide for free and all the best with your journey. When I watch the panning out from your visual canvases I can’t help but think there would be value in providing A3 type wall charts of your summaries (somehow). Not detracting from your single or multiple page PDF summaries, just that the core messages might resonate more for visual / spatial types like me with pictures
Someone recommended this book to me but I think it won’t be helpful. I don’t even have a job, no skills or qualifications and I’m 33. I have Borderline personality disorder so I usually feel empty and no excitement, how on earth can I find my passion? I feel so lost
Keep trying different things and whatever sparks a tiny amount of interest, go deeper in that direction. I have learnt that thinking alone will never work. You must act. Keep trying various things big and small.
I wish someone told me this in college. Luckily I learned something from lots of trial and error but I still am back to wondering about what kinds of jobs I'd be best suited for, not which jobs SOUND the best. I think my boss before last KNEW more than he let on when he promoted me and said, "It's temporary, this next job isn't forever so try to grin and bear the parts you hate and enjoy the others." He knew I'd hate some of it and was warning me, wish I'd knew EXACTLY what he was referencing because the next several years were so much stress realizing some things I just CAN'T do and stay sane. Trying to make sure the next job I take has none of those job duties.
Thank you for this concise and informative video. I have the book and workbook in my shopping cart, I'm about to purchase them with Hope it will help guide me in discovering what I want in the near future. So I set out to find reviews in fear it may not be what I was hoping for. Now that I have watched your video, I have some questions. I have a job that I love and I'm doing well at, so if you wouldn't mind, in your opinion, could this book help me with my home/personal life as well? Or does the book solely focus on careers? Such as, does it dive into finding personal beliefs, or sorting through garbage thoughts that Hold us back from persuing our best self? Thanks for your thoughts and thanks again for the incredible time I'm sure you invested in creating this video.
My alternative life is as a screenwriter. See this doesn't work for people in the arts. Those are not jobs that are waiting for you like an IT job etc. There are no guarantees. I'd like the author to write a book about plan a and plan b for artistic ppl.
The fact that you show the example of very successful engineer doesn't help because people are not usually engineers especially with high speciality engineering. That says to me not to buy the book.
Thank you so much for this video. Someone recommended me take the course but I’m not a Stanford student nor do I have money to do so. I also have so many books I need to read already, this was a good way to find out if I should pick it up, which I think I will do.
Ditto . I had one . I called my high school guidance counselor and asked her what she like and dislike about her job and she said if she could do it all over she would deliver mail that it was the worst job in the world . Lol that was enough for me
You realize this could be applied to so much more than just career choices, right? The first thing that popped into my mind was having prototype conversations with immigrants living in various countries before choosing where I really want to live.
hey this is amazing

I just wanted to let you know that you are doing a great job through these videos. I appreciate all the hard work and the impact you are making.
I love programming and solving problems. For me, being a doctor isn't motivating as it doesn't really incorporate what I enjoy.
This channel is one of the best channels on youtube keep it up Thank you

goodluck! you can do it!
Your channel is a very useful tool. Great job, saving the time to read books and summarizing the main golden nuggets.
Amazing way of explaining what the book is about. I really love these kind of videos.
So it's kind of like listening to the summary before you buy the book. In a way.
hey thanks.

Phenomenal work. Thank you for these great videos

I’m a Visual learner . This was the most effective video I’ve seen so far
What have you done since learning this almost a year ago? Just curious.
The course originated from Stanford this it will biases to those who by default have inherited more life options from their parents, the lawyer, the restaurant owner, the civil engineer all example of people who are already successful rather than those who work from necessity rather having a litany of choices.
@shannon BRAVO FINALLY someone had to say it. If you don't work it someone else will. No matter what country you're in.
Thank you for this video! I'm looking forward to trying this :)
Alternate life discovery is highly important
this guy is great! love the way you present , so clear and to the point. thanks for doing this hard work, much appreciated.

Very neatly explained, I have read this book and felt like re-living it in your video.
Someone recommended this book to me but I think it won’t be helpful. I don’t even have a job, no skills or qualifications and I’m 33. I have Borderline personality disorder so I usually feel empty and no excitement, how on earth can I find my passion? I feel so lost

Great job buddy....! Would like to connect with you for a prototype conversation

Your videos are enriching
The problem is that money IS an object. Thus is fine for people who are already is high paying jobs like the engineer.
Thank you for this concise and informative video.

I was like Michael, then I go to PhD, then I get tired of the academic research environment.
Nice helpful summery

will this book work for high school seniors that aren't sure what career path to take?
Yes, high school seniors could gain several insights from this book and move their life in a direction that aligns with their aptitude
High-schoolers should read Cal Newport's books.
Thank you very much
