Tourists have been flocking to the Heckeln coffee shop in Tokyo to see its owner Shizuo Mori dislodge caramel sauce puddings from their tins. Mori’s trademark of using a circular motion, which the 80-year-old said was easier on his wrists, has gone viral on social media. Mori said on March 15, 2023, that he was very surprised to see posts of himself on TikTok and Instagram.

He's a cute, happy old man that is enjoying himself, that's what people are drawn too.
It’s his warm smile & the positive energy 😊
He must have been super cute in his 20s
50 puddings a day at maximum $2-3 profit each = $150 profit from pudding. Hmmm...
@@tileavenue6911
Yes 50 pudding enough, he does'nt do more. He is wise..😊
80 yo and still healthy enough to be able to run a bussiness, now that is a life goal
so many Asians are extremely healthy compare to Americans it's because of their lifestyle.
@@amyjobuchanan9684 They are often active, even if through working, and eat a variety of things in their diet so I can see why.
I think that's quite common among asians. Both my grandparents are doing just that.
My nan worked all the way through her 80s. She stopped after she got alzheimer. May she rest in peace. I miss her ❤
@@amyjobuchanan9684 why do people keep on comparing the two?
My heart melted when he says what his only regret is. This man is a treasure!
Its an inspiration to watch Japanese people being exceptionally skilled and dedicated to their work. Admirable❤
That’s so smooth I would break my wrist trying to do that 😭🤌🏽
I went there last week didn’t even know he was trending I just wanted some jiggly pudding 😂 was tasty though but yeah they sell out quick (usually by lunch-ish depending on the day they said). The Royal milk tea is also bomb
Is it better than other shop or is just tasted the same?
Dang
I used always hate the fact that some of the best restaurants in Japan are exclusive to long-term clientele, however, after hearing how it pains this business owner to turn people away empty-handed, I can see why it’s done.
Grandpa still has the moves and is happy with a heart full of passion for his work. Keep it up.
Flan is what we call that “pudding “ in Latin America.
is Flan in Latin America same as Leche Flan in the Philippines?
@@xXxSkyViperxXx Yes. But they have different textures.
When he’s getting interviewed, you get the sense that his spirit is much younger than it seems in the viral videos of him working.
Dude probably didn’t even know what TikTok is yet getting fed on it.
Fukushima coffee .... nice
There was a time when radio was the only entertainment. He lived most of his life not needing a smartphone to keep him entertained. So not sure why an old man should care about TikTok. He would sell the 50 units of pudding regardless of the new fame. It just would take a bit longer.
I’m glad they filmed him so I can see, it made me happy
@@JasonB808 Yeah he was getting fed on his own hard work, not TikTok lol
Social media posts from Japan are built different.
My grandfather does the same thing when I was younger instead of homemade crème brûlée it was a store bought one lol. He reminds me so much of him :^)
Now that is absolutely amazing! It makes want to try one of his puddings. 🍮
That Flan looks delicious 😋
I was thinking the same😅
Charming 80 year old Japanese man becomes world famous for the special way he flops pudding into a dish. This is peak internet and I love it.
It looks like flan! Which is a popular dessert in Mexico and other countries :D
This old man and his bow tie is the cutest thing ever
Food is really what bring people together. ❤
Nothing is best than an old hardworking man getting the attention he deserves 💯
We call it “leche flan” in the Philippines 🤤❤️
The look and the taste of Japanese caramel purin is pretty much the same as the panna cotta we have in my country. I've never heard the word "flan" though as others in the comments have mentioned. What is the origin of this Japanese pudding really?
Somethings are better left unquestioned..
Rome, France, Germany and Spain apparently all had a hand in it's development, according to wikipedia anyway. -
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cr%C3%A8me_caramel
In terms of texture yes, same as panna cotta but then again, all puddings are made the same way. But not the taste, panna cotta is just milk but this pudding has a eggy milky taste closer to custard cream.
@@thesunreport I see, thank you for enlightening me. I now understand that it's a much more complex history behind it than what I thought. I've only tasted caramel panna cotta in my country and Japanese purin in Japan so now I really wish I could try out flan too, but I'm not sure if they have it here.
@@Nothingbutdust_ No problem. I was interested myself as well. I like them and have just had one from my local supermarket in the UK. :) (a mass-produced creme caramel that is)
May his business thrive and his puddings be appreciated for many years.
Grandpa looks so cute with his fancy bowtie 😂
The basic Japanese character is a trait that is obsessed with perfection. Perhaps they have the world's most enduring aesthetic.
i visited his shop and he is so lovely! not to mention the pudding! one of the best pudding I have ever had! 🍮
The way he does the little finger gun while he shakes it loose is everything lol ❤😂
This man is really making the scariest part of making flan easy.
I love these!!!
The wholesome news I needed. Glad they could carry on after the pandemic
Aw he’s too cute my heart.
we already have that in our country since i can remember, its called leche flan.
That’s “Leche Flan” in the Philippines, a popular dessert for hundreds of years now. 😊👍❤️🇵🇭🇯🇵
One thing to be noted is that flan and custard are different in texture. Whilst flan has a more custard-like texture with a caramel sugar top, custard has a consistency akin to pudding, hence why commercial convenience store custard cups in Japan are called pudding.
you should do some deep search kid
@@hiroshibieren4257 Flan is a *type of custard.*
Awww he is so cute ill cry :( but i wish people got permission to take a video of him before uploading it onto social media!
Well, that as a fun story!
Aww. I’m happy for him.
Finally a video about the Japanese that is not full of nonsensical hate in the comments. It is indeed flan, it is a common dish in many places around the world, but they call it purin in Japan. And no, it probably wasn't invented in any of the countries of people claiming so.
That's basically Flan In Mexico they make it all the time......
I was very lucky, I managed to buy one of his puddings at the local supermarket near me.
Happy saiki kusou noises
Long Live The Old Man🙏🙏🙏
Great story!
The only thing I like about social media's are saving this old man shop
I hope people bring and draws more crowds to the other shop too.
1:38 My man travelled all the way from Sumeru to Inazuma just to get nothing 😭
BRUH
Man's seen times when people didn't even think about inventing social media, yet he followed through.
Is it the same as Leche Flan here in Philippines?
That's flan I think it's from Spain.
Leche flan??
Even before covid, many japanese are already wearing mask that it surprised me when i visit in 2016 🤭
wow that elder is very hardworking!
Bartender of pudding! 😊
Boy, I’m a fiend for these puddings and I’d love to travel to Mr. Modi’s little café to enjoy his signature custard pudding!
Interesting. In Hispanic culture, this dessert is known as Flan Napolitano, which in turn is derived from the French Crème de Caramel.
Msia shop that sell them also have done it, 1950!!
Delicious Leche Flan! Yum. Yum.
Jiji's got da moves
Wonderful story!
how do get from shinjuku to this pudding store
Creme caramel to give it its original name. Here we decant using a light blowtorch
I see. So Al Haitham is a big cream caramel fan 👍🏻👍🏻
Japan🎉 always full advantage
"Trademark caramel jiggly pudding"... Flan.... Its called FLAN..... 🙄🤷🏽♀
It's Flan.
Instead of coming to eat it. I would want him to teach younger generations to make it so it can be carried on when he is gone.
It’s overhyped tho
It's just simple pudding. Customers just love how he flip it 😂
lol it's easy to made people just go there to get extra clout on internet. See the phones taking pictures that will go straight to their social media.
@@PR-ko2ph It's not, it's delicious.

Leche Flan! here in ph 😄
Wow, he’s selling custard pudding at 80 years old.
Flan saving a business one at time - awesome!

Looks like they discovered flan haha
how that makes special when it comes to us,it's just a leche flan🤣✌️
We call it Flan and I make one delicious Flan:)

That there is flan. I wonder if you got the idea from Mexico
That pudding really does look tasty AF though
Ol’ boy got dat whip
Look yummy yummy
But I hate egg part inside pudding. I mean it okay to use egg but just a little & more of milk & others ingredients.
Tiktok can change lives.
Great now im hungry
Caramel pudding! My favourite 😋
In philippines, we call it leche flan.
Es verdad que hablan un poco de español allá 😮?

That’s leche flan from the Philippines.
**Miyako Izumo wants to know your Location**
Is that the same as Flan? I wanted to try it for years, if not decades after seeing it on the Rugrats as a kid....when I finally did....I nearly puked. Turns out flan isn't my cup of tea unfortunately lol.
You should try it once more at a cafe that specializes in it. I thought many dishes were bad, but sometimes turns out they weren't made right.
Ey that's flan.
How is that trademarked. Its a common treat in the UK.
Looks Tasty 😋

Are flan and pudding different?
It's different
It think it depends on which country you are from. Like in the Philippines, we call it flan ("leche flan") for the milk pudding.
Same. Flan, pudding, creme caramel
Reminds me of Shinchan🌸
Pudding Bae!
Saiki would be proud
Leche Flan from Philippines 😄👍
