I was an English teacher. My instructor told us that although not so many Indonesians speak English, Indonesians have one of the best English pronunciations potential. Drilling pronounciation to Indonesians are relatively easier than doing it to students in other region. When Indonesians speak English, their pronunciation can be very good. That explains why interviewers here are confused with Deny's (the Indonesian) English as American English.
Indonesians, malasians and filipinos have a great well spoken english very intense, explicative, cute and clear, and sometimes they could be clearly harsh too when situations requires. Many times they speaks better than natives the hardwords too.

People in eastern side of Pakistan are Sindhis, Punjabis & Dogra - again DNA Indians. People in Kerala & Tamil Nadu are similar in physical traits with Sri Lanka. Nepalese similar with Uttarakhand, Northern Bengal & Sikkim. Ladakhis & Arunachalis similar traits to Tibetans. Mizo, Naga, Manipuris similar physical attributes to Vietnamese, Thai. Hence, it is a very high probability for a westerner or an Oriental to see Lankans, Nepalis, Bengalis & pakistanis all as Indians but confuse Northeast Indians with South Asians.

It’s the same with the rest of Indonesia. Things are different with Java because Chinese Indonesians there have always been on the Peranakan side. Even before Indonesia’s independence, their ancestors speak Dutch with the government, local Malay dialect with the natives, and local languages like Javanese and Sundanese at home. Because of this familiarity with the local lingo, Chinese Indonesian publications pre-independence were printed in local Malay, not Chinese like in Singapore or Malaysia. Even after 1928 when we adopted the name “Bahasa Indonesia” for the national language, Chinese Indonesian publications were the ones who first printed some of the most important documents around Indonesia’s independence, including the national anthem and the proclamation of independence, all in Bahasa Indonesia.

I’m upset as well… because Mr Zach right here… couldn’t guess MY country (🇧🇩) properly. When the Bangladeshi girl Aksa walked in, I instantly knew she was Bangladeshi. Even after she said rice is the staple food (of Bangladesh), Zach guessed wrong and assumed her to be “Indian”, even after she asked him “why ?” No matter how “sorry” he is, this wrong guess won’t fix anything ! Bangladeshis on average, consume more rice than their Indian neighbours. While Indians are mostly vegetarian, Bangladeshis are mostly pescatarian. Zach should know, Bangladesh and India are 2 separate states. Just because these 2 separate states are similar, doesn’t mean they are the same. Bangladesh and India are both ethnically diverse. Present-day Bangladesh had always been a part of India for thousands of years and continued to be, a part of India… even when the entire Indian Subcontinent was under the British rule for 400 years which, ended in 1947 when India became an independent state and their Punjab state became what we know, as Pakistan today. Before Bangladesh ever became Bangladesh, Pakistan kept this territory occupied for a couple of decades (from 1947 to 1970), calling this territory, “East Pakistan”. During the occupation period, they tried to replace our language and cultural identity (Bengali) with theirs (Urdu). Before the British left in 1947, they divided territories of this Subcontinent based solely on religion and that’s exactly how Pakistan took the chance and kept us occupied for a couple of decades because like us, they’re also a Muslim-majority territory; the only difference is : Pakistan is an Islamic Republic and we’re a People’s Republic. A liberation war between my people and the Pakistani soldiers broke out in 1971 and guess who won that war ?? WE DID !!! 🇧🇩 (and yet, 7 months after fighting with them) We wouldn’t have been able to drive those Pakistani soldiers out of our territory if India never lent us a helping hand. Bangladesh has been in existence for 53 years, we did come a long way even if our history is brief. Our Independence Day is this month, on the 26th… just 3 days after my birthday. I was born, just 21 years after we became independent and free from Pakistani occupation. Everytime Americans mis-identify us as “Indians” and on top of that, continue to spell our names incorrectly, it’s NOT okay and it seriously hurts. It’s time for Zach and his female friend to read more history books and more geography books before they make any more mistakes and embarrass themselves further in the near future.

To be honest, a lot of people think Bangladeshis look like Indians and I get that a lot as well but I think that eventually people will start to notice that Bangladesh is a completely different country when it comes to the culture and religion. I mean isn’t that tough.. when someone says Indian, it includes Bengalis, Gujarati, North eastern people, South Indians etc. a wide range… so getting confused as Indian while being from Bangladesh or Pakistan or Sri Lanka in general isn’t a disadvantage as Bengalis exists in India too. But if maybe there was a distinctive feature then the difference is understandable, like personally for me, I can recognise some Sri Lankans from their English accent. Rajiv Gandhi and Priyanka Chopra with their eyes look unmistakenly Indian to me. Benazir Bhutto she looked like a mix of Arab and Indian. But South Indians and Sri Lankans and Bangladeshi may look more similar than North Indians.

14:05 it's going to be difficult to discern Malaysian English and Singapore English because both are equally-Chinesed(?) accent. But Indonesian English is quite distinct from the other two. If the guy speaking more in his Indonesian accent, the English will be more similar to Filipino English rather than the Malaysia / Singapore.
Bahasa Inggris Indonesia lebih cendrung seperti logat Bahasa Indonesia kalau orang Indonesia berbicara bahasa inggris biasanya standard. Tapi di Malasia Singapura mereka lebih beda mereka ada Singlish dan Manglish.. benar mereka pake bahasa inggris kebanyakan aksen Inggris China contoh *( hey you what are you talking about meh / no la because im talking about my country loh )* 😅
@@suhanjayalian5044 The biggest differentiator (for me) is actually not the usage of particles/interjection from Chinese (Indonesian used 'lah'/'loh' in similar manner, but not as extensive as MY/SG folks), but is the intonation. Their english has the intonation of southern-style mandarin.
The accent difference between Indian English and Bangladeshi English is pretty obvious. Bangladeshi have a very different and unique accent of English which is not very popular as Indian accent. So understandable people mixing up. But if they notice the accent, it is easy to differentiate.
@@MarieAntoinetteBestQueen They do not. Indian hindi letters and Bangladeshi bangla letters are pronounced differently. That’s why kids in two countries have different pronunciation style in general. Even Kolkata people have different bengali accent than Bangladeshi people. That’s why they grow up and learn english, the flow and pronunciation style differs because the way they talk in general is different.
@@dghtids223 There is difference because even though hindi and bangla quite similar but the letters in both languages are different to pronounce. So kids in India and Kids in Bangladesh when they first start to speak, there are few differences in general pronunciation of some letters. Thus the english pronunciation is also different from one country to another country. There are many words western people can not pronounce like us no matter how much they try.
Most of Indonesian have error presumption of "Indonesia have the most islands". We forgot US has Hawaii, Palau, and Puerto Rico. We forgot that "Island" definition is debatable that even the number of island in Indonesia differ between 17 500 to 18000 depend on the source and the year. @@Xynic48 I've just check the Japanese number. You're right, it had been updated to 14,125 islands but the number still lower than Indonesia but it had exceed Phillipines. Japan had 14,125 islands but only 260 inhabited. Sweden had 267,250 islands but less than 1000 was inhabited. Meanwhile, Indonesia had 17 thousands something (some version even mentioned 18 thousands) but only 6000 islands was inhabited. So in term of inhabited islands, the number exceed Sweden.
@@kunderemp The numbers are a bit confusing because the 14 thousand islands in japan is only what japan consider a "proper island" but if you count every island regardless of the size, it is well over a 100 thousand. I cant find any data about indonesia and how they count theirs so Im going by total of islands and islets.
This is all because the Indonesian tongue is very flexible so they can pronounce foreign languages very well and clearly 👍🏻
Indonesians, malasians and filipinos have a great well spoken english very intense, explicative, cute and clear, and sometimes they could be clearly harsh too when situations requires.
Many times they speaks better than natives the hardwords too.

Nepalese similar with Uttarakhand, Northern Bengal & Sikkim. Ladakhis & Arunachalis similar traits to Tibetans. Mizo, Naga, Manipuris similar physical attributes to Vietnamese, Thai. 1. The accent, they have their own accent when speaking English
2. Unlike Sg and Malaysia, Indonesian will rarely/never say the word 'race' when describing the diversity in their country, they will say 'ethnicity/ethnic group'.

Even before Indonesia’s independence, their ancestors speak Dutch with the government, local Malay dialect with the natives, and local languages like Javanese and Sundanese at home.
Because of this familiarity with the local lingo, Chinese Indonesian publications pre-independence were printed in local Malay, not Chinese like in Singapore or Malaysia. as an indonesian i also find it hard to differentiate indonesian, malaysian, and singapore in just one glance and several questions so i don't blame him. i think the easiest way to differentiate these three are from their accents
I hope i can explain more short and detail but there a lot races and ethnic in Indonesia and i think you can translate to english right. And if you asking me what Indonesian look like, majority race in Indonesia is Malay or (Native in West Indonesia) more than 80% i m guess. Rest of them mixing Races. But because Chinese Indonesia more rich sometimes you re only find Chinese Indonesia who represent Indonesia. Or even rich Eurasia Indonesia like this Guy in video.

If you live in the US you would be astonished at how well they've done. Donald Trump was in Jerusalem but he didn't even know he was in the Middle East, and former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin had no idea that Africa wasn't a country.

I can instantly guess that Denny is my fellow Indonesian. It's from his name (Denny instead of Danny), his subtle (Jakarta) accent, and overall looks (he got the typical educated, well-raised, probably wealthy family, good-looking Indonesian man). And then he said something about most Muslim populated and most islands, yes, 100% sure. 🇮🇩

To be honest, a lot of people think Bangladeshis look like Indians and I get that a lot as well but I think that eventually people will start to notice that Bangladesh is a completely different country when it comes to the culture and religion. Not even south asians know the difference between Bangladeshis and Indians which actually shocked me when I went to secondary school because everyone thought I was either Indian or Pakistani. Some even thought that I was Sri lankan which was a first because I generally have more fair skin (not to be rude). But hopefully people will start to realise the differences, especially the accent is a dead giveaway. Bangladeshis have a more americanised/british accent when they speak english, so it's quite easy to tell. Also, I hope you enjoyed my little rant I was so bored so decided to comment for a good 10 minutes. You're welcome.😊
Maybe am assuming or its just me.
Anyhow… just sharing my thought.. no offence
Indian = head bobble
Bangladeshi = no head bobble
Rajiv Gandhi and Priyanka Chopra with their eyes look unmistakenly Indian to me. Benazir Bhutto she looked like a mix of Arab and Indian. But South Indians and Sri Lankans and Bangladeshi may look more similar than North Indians.
In China people in the north towards Mongolia and Manchuria in the past look different from people in the south too. Like Hong Kong actors of the 80s and 90s looked very different from mainland Chinese actors nowadays.

I'm Indian and I couldn't tell the difference because Bengalis from India have a similar accent

Regardles the lack of knowledge of most Indonesian representative, since the context was Asian countries, Indonesia still have the most Island with Phillipines came second.

The biggest issue here is that every country has a different criteria of what they consider an island. I think sweden also includes islets that's why the number is over 200k.
