I was a sophomore in high school, mainly a music/art/theater kid. We played this ALBUM all the time. I wore out the “Made in Japan” album. They were amazing live. (Cobo Hall, Detroit Mi. 1972) Best show ever.
I’m 67 and in my opinion this is the best DP song. I remember when this album came out. I play guitar myself, just a hobby, not in a band. I enjoy your channel. Happy Thanksgiving!
This song is a killer and the version they do on the LIVE "Made in Japan"-album, where John Lord and Richie Blackmore does call and response is even better. This Purple lineup was the best.
Jon Lord controlling "The Beast" ( Hammond organ through a Marshall amp). Nothing like it. He just lets it roar throughout the album. Absolutely brilliant.
An ultimate jam session song as it should be, a lot people are talking about the legendary sixties, but for me the early seventies spirit 😊 .... Oh yeah ....
That organ intro = slowly waking up, but not wanting to get out of bed. But you know you have to. Think of it like that, and the rest of the song really falls into place. Epic track from an epic album!
A damn good choice, ya'll!!! : ) They did some good songs and I aways thought this one was one of my most favorite. I'm back to also say that this was the album that had "Smoke on the Water" on it.
The first album I bought when it came out so many years ago(I was 12). Where everyone else loved Smoke on the Water, I spent hours just listening to Lazy, over and over. Changed my love of music forever.
Simultaneous “air guitar” breaks out…. Man, that was fun watching you two. I’m an old guy (67 years YOUNG!) binging on “first time hearing” reaction videos. The best thing is, there’s plenty more where that came from kids. “Made in Japan” will melt yer face.
This is one of the only songs I know of where they do the leads before the vocals. But Made In Japan is their best album. What I really like about y'all is that you're not afraid to rock out. Keep on keeping on!
Purple went to Montreax to get a live sound for the album. They were supposed to be in the Casino but Smoke on the Water happened so, as the song goes they ended up in the Grand Hotel. I don't think it was to save money as you say in your intro. The track you played is an anniversary remix. I still have a useable copy of the ORIGINAL vinyl release. A band of complete musicians including my hero, Ian Paice.
Amen For Ian Paice - And The Timing, At The Grand Hotel Rolling Stones Recording Unit, Was Greatly Reduced From That Originally Planned At The Casino Because "Swiss Time Was Running Out (By Then) - It Seemed That We Would Lose The Race (IF No Expedited Recording Schedule)" - All The Best, (Memphis) Paul !!!:):)
I'm 65. Grew up on Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Supertramp and Uriah Heep (very underappreciated band). But the record for most albums in my collection went to Deep Purple. Try Highway Star (oowooh) or My Woman from Tokyo.
One of the top 5 heavy rock albu.s of all time, great blues song, virtuoso guitar work, ritchie obviously blues based with his own completely original take on it, he is in the top 3 or 4 modern electric guitaris definitely
Fantastic song, I saw them at the O2 in London on the 06th of this month and they played this song, you should review some of that gig bearing in mind they are now in their late 70s and not in their 20s, Great review
Only those of us who were born in 1960 (like myself) were lucky enough to be during the best years of music, because starting in the 90s and reaching 2000 there was never anything that equaled or surpassed groups like PINK FLOYD, DEEP PURPLE, KISS, YES, GENESIS , QUEEN , Led Zeppelin , Creedence Clearwater Revival etc.
Forgot to mention playing the song is anything BUT Lazy, until the very end when they get LAZY and do a standard generic ending. Gotta love a band that loves sarcasm and has real talent.
This was my music back then. Always been a fan of Deep Purple but production values have changed. About 6 years ago a tribute album called Re-machined celebrating a great collection of music featured people like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Santana and a version of Lazy performed by Joe Bonamassa and Jimmy Barnes. It's right up there and worth a listen.
One of the greatest Rock bands ever! And still an incredibly awesome album. Never forget the first time I played the album. My friends and I were floored!!!! I noticed this must be a revised version of the song. Still like the original the best but very cool to listen to.
The thing with Ritchie Blackmore is you can always hear every note, which is a mile from many contempories who are just needlessly 'fast'. Jon was so talented and a real gent (RIP Jon).
Unfortunately Not Deep Purple Live, But Did See Emerson Lake & Palmer Once In Nashville in 1973, Once in Memphis In 1973, Once in Nashville (With Orchestra) In 1977 And Once in Memphis (Without Orchestra) in 1977 - Thanks, ("Memphis": Poplar & East Parkway) Paul!!
Machine Head is one of the best hard rock albums ever - no filler, solid bangers all the way through.
100%
Well i would call this song ,blues , 😂
@@stevegans3517 I would call it genius.
@@stevegans3517 Same with 'inrock' same with 'fireball' same with 'made in japan' same with 'who do we think'. Nuff said!!!
Don't forget "Made in Japan".
These songs took on a whole new life.
Jon Lord is lord of the keys 🤘
Black Sabbath,Led Zeppelin,Deep Purple the holy triad of rock music🤘
Should be the holy Quad! Add Uriah Heep to that list!
@markhaus2830 Uriah Heep and Blue Oyster Cult🤘
This song is anything but Lazy! Loved this album since it`s release in 1972, 1972, wow I was only 15 then but still getting played today.
I was a sophomore in high school, mainly a music/art/theater kid.
We played this ALBUM all the time.

A band who could play ANYTHING. Five extremely talented musicians. Should be at the top all lists dealing with the seventies.
Ritchie Blackmore is one of my favorite guitarists!
This song is a killer and the version they do on the LIVE "Made in Japan"-album, where John Lord and Richie Blackmore does call and response is even better. This Purple lineup was the best.
“Lazy” is an absolute masterpiece!! ... blues rock at its finest!! 🎸🎹🥁🎼 Thank You
Jon Lord controlling "The Beast" ( Hammond organ through a Marshall amp). Nothing like it. He just lets it roar throughout the album. Absolutely brilliant.
You will never hear a new song like this ever again...
How do you know?
@@321bytor It hasn't happened in the past 30 years, so it's an educated guess
Yup, rock is sadly dying.:(
Blackmore and Lord were masters of their craft and together it was pure magic!
This is an all-time favorite from those days. Still rocks
Love this song. Machine Head was part of my teen years, it's still on my playlist.
I saw them in September and they killed this song! Crazy how good they are still.
An ultimate jam session song as it should be, a lot people are talking about the legendary sixties, but for me the early seventies spirit 😊 .... Oh yeah ....
No doubt this band showed how it's supposed to be done
Been jammin to this since i was 11 in 71'. Thanks big sister.
They still perform this song live--and it still sounds great!
That organ intro = slowly waking up, but not wanting to get out of bed. But you know you have to. Think of it like that, and the rest of the song really falls into place. Epic track from an epic album!

50 years and still sounds good to my 71 year old ears with hearing aids.
My ears and eyes are still excellent 🙏

I listen to the album when it came out, so cool to relive a first impression with U2, Thank's.
Machine Head was the first album I ever bought in 1971. A quality album even after all these years.
Ritchie could shred that STRAT like no one else in the 70's!!
The first album I bought when it came out so many years ago(I was 12). Where everyone else loved Smoke on the Water, I spent hours just listening to Lazy, over and over. Changed my love of music forever.

My all time favourite by Purple 💜💜💜
Me, too.
My first album!
This album was the first album I had in quadophenia sound back in the 70s
I love them!!!!!! Ésta intro es una de las mas espectaculares de la historia del rock!!!!¡ de los creadores del heavy metal!!!
Master musicianship !
GREAT CHOICE DUDES!!!! 💪💪💪💪💪💪
i bought that album when it was released ,havent heard it in years ,i dont think i appreciated how brilliant they were, thanks for showing this
Saw this tour in Buffalo in 1973, at a dragstrip in a light rain. Dropped a hit of acid, the 500 micrograms 70s style of acid. What an experience!
One of the greatest rock anthems ever composed by a band at their peak just face melting people. The entire Machine Head album is a masterpiece
One of my favorite songs of all time.
Saw this live OMG the best of the best
I've seen Deep Purple, twice. The first time, Jon Lord was still with them. Not the second. They did this song, the first time. They crushed it!
1972. I was fifteen. Loved this song, played it all the time. The entire album was great.
the intro is the key F, goes up to G, and ends with A...just like jazzers
Spot on!
Mr Blackmore virtuose 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸👏👏❤️👏

Absolutely the best Deep Purple song ever.
Still one of the best blues rocking songs of all time
What an era!
I guess in Deep Purple's book this considered Lazy.mayby in comparison to their track Highway Star, check it out if you guys haven't already.
Deep Purple at its Best .

Saw them live in 84 and they were way better live than the albums...my fav from the concert was 'perfect strangers'...haunting!

Thank you, this reaction got me into top gear for the rest of the morning!

My fav deep Purple song. Thanks guys.
Pure rock n roll
Complet en tout excellentissime 👏👏👏
Yeah, Uriah Heep was right there with Purple leading the way in progressive rock. Ken Hensley was Heep's Jon Lord. Both groups were similar.
The Godfathers of Heavy Metal
the version on Made in Japan live is classic

The live version from the Made In Japan album is the one to listen to.
absolutely!
Saludos desde España, con Deep Purple descubrí el rock cuando apenas era muchacho con 14 años. En 1974 . Ya llovió.
This type of rock and roll jamming does not exist anymore, happy discovering, enjoy!

I noticed this must be a revised version of the song. Still like the original the best but very cool to listen to.
The version made in japan, wow
You need to watch the live TV studio video (not the live Made in Japan), just awesome to watch tham all but especially Jon Lord,
I've just realised that deep purple are the best band ever, thanks you 2❤❤❤❤❤
How come people don't eat flamingos? Tell me tomorrow. Your friend, Lou.
the phsicodelic blues in the organ is epic,,,,,but the blonde girl (I don`t remember her name) is beautiful,,,

The thing with Ritchie Blackmore is you can always hear every note, which is a mile from many contempories who are just needlessly 'fast'. Jon was so talented and a real gent (RIP Jon).
