This reminds me of how I got my biomom to stop viciously comparing me to another girl in high school. She kept going on and on about how many extracurriculars that girl was in, how polite to adults she was, how that girl had such a large social circle, and how wonderful and perfect biomom's life would be if only she had a daughter more like that girl. At some point, I got sick of it and decided to stand up for myself. Instead of trying to convince her that we were very different people, I pointed out how that girl was gay and her "large social circle" is actually a drama-fueled polycule.
"I never liked her," was biomom's response and the last thing I ever heard her say about that girl.

When I was a young kid, I saw my favorite RUclipsr come out as trans. And guess what? IM NOT TRANS. Seeing trans people never made me trans, it only made me realize that being trans is ok and normal.
I remember when I first encountered a RUclipsr I like who turned out to be trans and I thought no less about them as a person.
I had a stable household, very loving parents, and for a while I had a nuclear family. Heck, I even grew up in a Catholic school. Skip a few years later, I am the most lesbian person you will ever meet.

AI does have its good points. It has some really interesting applications in medicine, for example. But AI "art" is not art! I think everything's just going to look the same eventually if we trust all the art to an algorithm.
Art isn't that diverse. For the most part all the people who use AI art for "look I'm an artist" clout will use photo realistic styles or generic anime styles, both of which aren't very original and are popular art styles.
Otherwise, AI isn't able to make new art styles. Real art will exist so long as real artists with a passion to make it are around.
The only original art style I have seen from AI is when the art styles are blended together and make odd choices that a person wouldn't make.
If profit is a concern, all people who work in areas that can be replaced by machines could loose their job, the problem isn't that the job is lost but that we need money to live.
Most leftist against AI, I dare say, all leftists against AI, should already be against the idea of a profit motive.
Struggle for art and original stuff will always exist bc it is a product that people consume.
The application in medicine is quite bad too, like many studies show it cares for stuff like fluorescent lights or if you had a ruler next to your body to tell you if you have skin cancer, because AI is not inteligent and is quite hard to teach what you want, this is also why one of the biggest breakthrus of AI medicine came from a program that was made to distinguish croissants from bear claws and it ended up finding cancer cells

I'm a formally taught artist and in my final year, to graduate we had to answer the question "What is art?". It's a question with a surprising amount of nuance but the definition that I (and many of my classmates) came to is that Art is a visual medium by which some element of the human condition can be expressed. By that very definition AI art could never be considered art as it does not--nor could it EVER express an element of the human condition since its not human! It's a machine and therefore lacks the entire purpose of art in its entirety!
I describe art as an emotion. It's an expression of the self through a visual medium. It basically acts as a window into our souls, sometimes tiny, sometimes terrifyingly large, to evoke a sense of feeling or emotion.
The people who think AI generated images are real art fundamentally do not understand that. They think they can take the soul of tens of thousands of art pieces, break it down into lines of data, and reconstruct it using text into a new image. And that the image could be called art simply due to the fact its visually appealing. When in reality, their attempts at trying to draw these ideas would actually be art regardless of how little technical skill they have.
I mean it is since it’s trained on art.
AI is a tool, first and foremost, and I think like other tools it can/could be used to make art.
It's just new, and we (as a society) haven't figured it out.
Reading back I realised that I wrote "being used to create art" as opposed to creating art. Perhaps that distinction is key, but more likely is that I'm a rambling layperson.
@nonameiii.2302 the problem we as artists have with AI first and foremost is the fact that our copyrighted material that we've spent our lives working towards and that we use for both financial stability and emotional self expression are being scraped without our consent so that anyone can duplicate our artwork and create whatever they'd like in our distinct art style without needing to pay us.
Most artists have no problem with machine learning tools existing. Its an issue of ethics, consent, and the washing down of self expression and skill down to just pretty pictures.

As an Artist myself (or, a kid trying to be an artist) AI art angers me greatly. There's such a great possibility now that my dream job of storyboard animation for places like Sony, Pixar, or Disney, can all be taken away because of literal robots.

I remember at my first pride, my 5ft tall a$$ wearing my ace flag (along with my bi shirt and other stuff), and someone accidentally stepped on it. It took me so long to process they were apologizing for accidentally dissing the flag in a large crowd, and not just in general for almost tripping me. But I am really glad that people respect the flags at pride, and that I could walk around with a comfy cape.

I would argue that something should not be considered art just because someone thinks it's deep. I mean, yeah, it can be free to interpretation and all of that, but the artist can't just shove something random without actually caring what they are trying to convey and expect people make it art themselves just because people start theorizing what the artist was trying to convey when in reality it just doesn't mean nothing to the artist.
What I am trying to say is that art should have a purpose and a reason to be for the artist that made it, because if you can just do anything and put the hard work on the people seeing it then what could we say is art or not? Because here in Spain we had various instances of this, like when an "artist" sold for ridiculous amounts of money a piece that he claimed he made but in reality it was just a huge painting made by kids under 10 years old… so basically by that definition, just because people theorized what could actually the painting represent (when the truth about who made it wasn't found) then it could be classified as art, couldn't it? Or when a person just left their glasses below a fire extinguisher and people started gathering because they thought it was also "modern art", then that could also be considered art?
Also, Dadaism is not about changing what is defined creative, but to warp and distort the reality surrounding them for one which was more sinister and pessimist.
So no, at least in my criteria, a banana randomly taped to a wall is not considered art. Art should mean something by itself and not the meaning random people could make about it.
(I am not defending AI art neither, because AI art doesn't actually mean anything to the computer)

I have almost started to compile an archive of photos and videos in order to a) document war crimes and b) identify the missing or dead.
On both sides of the conflict, people have to search for their missing relatives by viewing such terrible content, because this is the last hope and almost the only way to find out what happened to a loved one.

You made a brilliant point about nature photography. For a little bit of joy I always encourage people to go & look at complications of each year’s best nature photographs. It’s a blend of not just natural majesty but expert techniques that are able to capture absolutely stunning & profound moments that exist in the web of life outside of the noise of regular life. Hell, there are equally fantastic pieces taken in towns/cities/communities in different parts of the world that are equally affecting thanks to perspective, lighting, setting & subjects being sweated over by photographers. I really have zero opinion on Mr. Beast. I’ve never watched any of his videos, and I know almost nothing about him other than that he has had his friend Kris’ back in her transition. My issue is basically what you said in that one person paying for people’s healthcare, motivations aside, is not enough. About Mr Beast - I think he said that sometimes he doesn't get any profit from his videos, or goes into minus. Also when he helped blind people he didn't filmed all of them. Just few who didn't mind, but there still were others who got helped and didn't get filmed. But yes, rich people need to be taxed more and give more money into health care. In my country all health care is free (Well, you still can pay but it's more like pay to not be in a queue, but queues are not that bad here) and it's like that because it's payed with our taxes. But it's interesting that in our country tax evasion is pretty common and we don't have much Mr Beast level rich people, yet we have free health care, but America where tax evasion is super bad crime, so I assume more people pay taxes, the healthcare is SO expansive.

You see it a lot if you are in the anime community and they will claim anime coming out now has been poisoned by the west if it has any LGBT characters or themes in it which is hilarious considering Sailor Moon came out in the 90s and had a lesbian couple and a gay couple in that got dubbed as "cousins" and pretended one of the men was a woman to make the couple straight. Anime has always been full of LGBT characters and themes and that's why there are so many queer anime fans. The only thing that has changed is that more anime is coming out than ever before thus you can watch dozens of anime and never run into a queer character just from the sheer amount. I can do the exact same thing where I only watch ones with LGBT characters in it and have dozens of anime. A lot of queer stories coming out not were inspired by yuri and yaoi as it was one of the best genres to find queer stories years ago.

as someone who both uses AI and draws , AI needs VERY little help to make something . You need certain words for certain images , but thats all , it can never be compared to real art. I like to use it for character references for my own characters , or use AI as icons , otherwise I don't post it anywhere .
AI is just a bunch of really advanced Google searches. it’s like if I googled “Mona Lisa with a mustache”, printed it out, and claimed I drew it. It’s the same principal with AI.
As a professional artist who sculpts, paints, draws, does photography and also thinks that image generators are a cool tool - if you want something actually good from an image generator, or something even moderately specific, you need to do a lot. Starting from choosing a generator, a specific model, a scheduler, a lora, adjusting prompt levels, and that's not even touching on the prompt itself. I've found it quite similar to photography. Also in the "ugh you're just pressing a button" aspect that everyone views it with

It is true that to really get what you want you need to know how to use the programs and adjust "sliders" if you will. I've been unable to make very specific designs bc I draw/write about fantasy races, and there probably isn't enough art references for what the AI to learn from to make it. I guess you can call it "copy" rather than "learn" if one would rather be very specific.
Also since there are weird mistakes, such as with hands and other anomalies, you'd also need skills in photo editing.

"Copy" isn't very exact either. Diffusion models aren't trained to create copies. The training and the image building process is actually super cool. It's not just taking a bit from this painting, a part of this photo and putting them together. It "recognizes" patterns in the noise that have resemblance to the overall training data, creating a unique image as an output.
If you can't create a specific race, it's probably a prompt problem. Alternatively, if you've created some unique races that have no semblance to other, already existing ones, I would suggest going image-to-image route. Sketch out what you want to generate and input it as a source, then run with the prompt.
Oh, we're far beyond that problem now. Midjourney's model five was already giving near-perfect results for human figures, and six is even better. Stable diffusion lags a bit behind, but there's plenty of finetuned SDXL models that will give you perfect results eight times out of ten - given that you adjusted everything correctly, that is.

on the topic of Mr. Beast, i recommend Film Cooper’s video on it! Mr. Beast does do a lot of charity work outside of the public eye, but imo it’s more to build his image than just making a bunch of money.

This might piss some people off, but A.I art perfectly embodies late stage calitalism: it's all about quantity and commodification. For so many people, art is not about a product. Sure, you CAN make a profit off it, but I'm fairly confident in saying that a good chunk of people make art because they enjoy making art. It's about learning, growing new skills, and for some it can even become an entire lifestyle.
A.I robs ALL of that. It takes it away and turns it into "how quick can i throw all of that out the window so i can churn out content faster." It's not here to help people make art, because everyone ALREADY CAN MAKE ART if they just learn. This might sound cheesy, but being an artist isn't something somebody making a program can give you, because everyone is already an artist! If they just try! A.I art isn't about helping you, it's about helping CEO's cut out even more people so the money can go straight to them. A.I art is about turning what should be a learning opportunity into quick, easy slop you can temporarily enjoy before working your minimum wage job. It's cynical and gross.

If someone thinks it's difficult to make a prompt EVERY time, and that it's hard to come up with OG ideas...you're not really an artist. Kinda the whole point is you get an idea and do something with it to express it. Like...that's the whole point.
And of course, inspiration happens, and there is the whole "no art is original" thing because of that--but that is VERY different than just...using a program that takes form artists, without credit, and smooshes them together--not even a collage or a tribute to existing art. It's just taking credit, rather than taking inspiration.

Like, yeah, he’s doing it for views so he can get more money. But those people are still getting the help they need at no cost to them. And afaik, he isn’t holding anything over their heads for it. Making content off of it is enough for him.
The only reason the why someone is doing something should matter is if they’ll use that good thing to do harm. And Mr Beast isn’t doing that.

But there’s also tons of participants in his videos who have to go through some of his very draining challenges at times and then just don’t win. He still makes money off of them but they don’t get anything out of it.

I'm assuming you haven't seen the memes, which is what I referenced. They are an internationally recognized country (though not by all of course) and a nationality. People have made this term to fight back against those who say Palestine is not a country and Palestinian is not a nationality--because they have sided with Israel and their genocide. The discourse is that people do not believe it should be nationally recognized because of how it came to be, has existed, and its current and past war crimes.
So the term "IsNotReal" is mocking the country for it's crimes and saying you don't recognize it as a country that should exist, exactly how they are treating Palestine and Palestinians.
Countries that do not recognize Israel include: Algeria, Bangladesh, Cuba, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Mali, Bahrain, Kuwait, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Afghanistan.

You can't really define art - or you can't do so easily. That's a major point of contemporary art. You shouldn't oppose AI art because it's "not real art" (this'll never be a convincing enough statement) but rather because it is theft. On a technical standpoint, you could make art from AI image generation, just like you could from a banana and tape. The problem is that AI image generation, the way it currently exists, is unethical and based off theft. Art theft is the issue - not our sensitivity towards what art means.
Art is something made by people to express themselves. Easy. An AI isn't making or expressing anything. It doesn't have feelings or emotions or sentience.
@biCosI studied art... As much as your suggestion is an oft accepted definition, if you start looking ever so deeper you'll find that it's not that simple. We need to focus on what can actually be regulated and on what can hurt real creators. Art theft is concrete and can't be misconstrued for what is basically a philosophical question.
