Thank you for keeping this tutorial on the internet. I used it several years ago for all my children's stockings. Now my oldest is married and her husband will be here. I need to make him a stocking too and I am so glad I can go to this video for help. Thank you!! Merry Christmas to you and your family.

I can't even tell you how much this has helped me put together a Christmas cross stitch stocking! I had absolutely no clue how to go about doing it, as I am a "newbie" at sewing.
Thank you so much for sharing.

How does she attach or sew the Aida cloth? I wanted to add a decorative cording to the top. Any chance she lives near Sarasota?

Awesome! I'm going to attempt it this weekend. I will "enlarge" my stocking pattern a little to accommodate the fusible fleece. I will let you know how it turns out. Thanks for the great tutorial.

If it is the fake fur, I don't see why you couldn't make it the same way, just make sure the edges of the fur don't get caught in the seam when you sew the stocking up.

 Open the lining halves and lay them on the table in front of you, right side up. Place the hanger (folded in half with raw edges up) one inch from either edge of lining. Lay the cuff piece on top of the lining and hanger, matching the center of the cuff to the seam in the lining (raw edges up). Finally, lay the outer stocking fabric, right side down, on top of the stack. Pin where the hanger was inserted to prevent it from shifting when you sew.

We now use a 1/4" seam and you could use a wider seam on the lining so that it will fit into the stocking more easily. A few other helpful notes are below.
Please note the importance of the order of layering the items, so that the stocking hanging loop does not end up under the cuff.

Can I also add batting or fusible fleece to the inside for additional stability? I'm looking for a stocking that I can appliqué the outside and this looks perfect..

I'm making a stocking with fur trim on the top - can this pattern be used?

I don't see why not. It may take away some room for adding the gifts but If you try that, let me know how it turns out.

I know this was posted 7 yrs ago, I ran across it year but didn't get a chance try it. I couldn't remember the name but I remembered the still shot..hahaha. my dilemma is the cuff. I cannot get it right. I have watched this video so many times that I have it memorized. I cannot figure out the length of the cuff. Is it just long enough to have an inch short on either side? Does that make sense? if the stocking is 15 inches around, is the cuff 13? I really hope you come across this or someone that knows what they are doing. Im sure its a super simple step but it has got me stumped. Thank you.

Pattie, I would cut the cuff about an inch and a half less than the stocking. If the stocking is 15 inches then cut the cuff 13 1/2 inches. It does not have to be exact. You just don't want to sew the ends of the cuff into the seam when you are sewing the stocking together. If you look at the end of the video you will notice she has pinned the corners of the cuff to keep them from getting caught in the seam when sewing the stocking up. Hope this helps
