Fabulous tutorial! Very clear and easy to follow. I decided to make Christmas stockings as my first sewing project, and was able to successfully make 4 in one go with the help of this video. Thank you!
this was super helpful! I am making my mom a stocking by hand (I dont have a sewing machine) and this has given me an EXCELLENT step by step to follow!
Thank you for this video - haven't made stockings in a few years for the reason you said, the top is a pain to get clean looking unless I make a fold over top. I made one tonight your way & I really like it!
I'm embarassed to say how many times I had to watch this, but was successful. The first one took me forever, the second was much quicker. They're fun to make.
You shouldn’t feel embarrassed at all that’s what these tutorials are for, so we can learn. I’ll watch some of my favorite tutorials many times because i just like the project. It’s so rewarding to be successful while creating. Happy sewing!
Excellent video, thanks . I’ve made a few using the other method and the top of the stocking was really hard to do. Your method is the best one I’ve seen so far. Greetings from Germany.
Thank you so much for this video. I bought a stocking pattern and after cutting everything out I couldn't understand the instructions. I need to SEE it and this was perfect. I feel confident I can do it, even though I'm not an experienced sewer. Thank you!
Hello, Not for this specific stocking, but the technique for adding a cuff is fairly simple. Instead of sewing the stockings together at the upper edge as demonstrated in this video, stitch the outer stockings and the lining stockings together along the outer edges. Then insert the lining into the stocking with wrong sides together. For the cuff, cut a rectangle measuring 11" high by double the finished stocking upper edge width, plus seam allowances. Fold the rectangle in half widthwise with right sides together and stitch. Then fold the cuff in half with wrong sides together, creating a tube. Insert this into the stocking, aligning all raw edges. Sandwich a hanging loop between the cuff and the stocking lining at this step, if desired. Stitch the upper edge, then fold the cuff to the outside of the stocking. Check out this video (ruclips.net/video/OjOgSfTy7oo/видео.html) to see the technique in action. Best, Nicki
How would you embroider a cuff? I have a husqvarna Viking embroider attachment, thank you so much for this video I'm attempting 20 stockings by Christmas for my family and really want an embroidered cuff for my sons. 🎅🏼❤️
Hi Brittany. An embroidered cuff is a great idea! To do this, I would recommend doing your embroidery on whatever piece of fabric you intend to make your cuff from first, and then cut out the cuff piece. This will help you ensure that your embroidery is straight along the cuff, and it is also easier to stabilize and embroider on larger pieces of fabric. The type of stabilizer you use will depend on the type of fabric you choose to use for your cuff. Here is an article with a small chart near the end that will help you when selecting a stabilizer:www.threadsmagazine.com/item/4631/making-sense-of-stabilizers/page/allOnce your embroidery is done, simply cut out the cuff piece and attach it to the top of your stocking.Hope this helps!
Great tutorial! Best stocking video out there! I just free handed my pattern. You mentioned you can do a tote bag purse this way. Do you have a video of that?
