After months of closure and years of "Under New Management," Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room has reopened at the Magic Kingdom in Orlando in a classic version, featuring sing-along songs and familiar characters, without Iago and Zazu.

My dad, Dal McKennon did the original spoken voices of the birds. May he rest in peace! He did a lot of character voices for Disney, Walter Lantz, and the Archie show, etc..... I was just a little kid (in the 50's) when this came out. I thought the birds were really talking!

Wow, he was really talented! Disney found the most amazing people. Mr. McKennon sounds like he was like Mel Blanc. I don't know if people realize how much ability is involved in doing such voices. Amazing stuff, I've always loved The Tiki Room.

Probably the most beautiful & creative show in all of the parks! And the fact that Walt produced it and that it's pretty much the same makes it even more special! Will always cherish it every trip!
Can you imagine being alive in the 50's and seeing this? Walt was on a whole other level. Nobody can compare
It premiered in Disneyland in 1963 and Disney World in 1971, but yes, the imagineers were certainly ahead of their time.

Thank you God!!! Disney finally got SMART AND PUT BACK THE TIKI ROOM TO THE ORIGINAL VERSION. The other way SUCKED SO BAD I CRIED!!!! This is the original version for anyone who remembers it. I remember beening like 5 yrs old seeing it for the first time and, among many more yrs through the 70's-80's and early 90's before the changed it. WELCOME BACK BEAUTIFUL TIKI ROOM WE MISSED YOU!!!!
NOT to upset you but apparently they cut down on some parts during the restoration time so its shorter (and more people can see it is my guess of their reason or they could not recover the parts they lost when they changed it) BUT HEY, apperently they changed it back because on of a fire that *ONLY* burnt the pristine Iago (the one from the beginning) to a crisp yet the one that was hurt (for the show) was UNTOUCHED by the fire (that was in the attic of the building)! (I think Iago deserved it because he RUINED the original show)
I wonder if you both remember that some people STILL LIKE THE UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT ONE
You have to be there to appreciate how enchanting it is...

My kids both loved it, and they are 3 and 11 years old.
Glad to see they brought the classic version back, its a great show and should remain untouched. Except touch ups yearly of course.

Oh my god, it's back... I never thought I'd see the original again, save for the videos on this site. This, together with the Main Street Electrical Parade return, just gives me all the more reason to return and live childhood memories with my fiance. Welcome back, dear old friend!

This brings back memories. After I graduate from High School, my friends and I are going to Disneyland and I will drag them to the Tiki Room.

I'm so glad it's back. And how will kids sit through this? When I saw this I saw the whole theatre in awe, even adults, as the flowers came down and sung, the tiki gods chanted, and the birds spun around on their posts singing along. You don't need Iago or Zazu, they're good characters undoubtedly, but the magic of Walt Disney attractions is to introduce you to new characters, all of which are at Disney-caliber.
Now THIS is what I grew up with. My three year old self didn't understand how it could rain inside, but when you exited it was sunny again. haha Miss the fountain, but hoping it'll come back eventually. I'm just psyched this is here at all. I'll be spending a LOT of time in this thing when I go back.

I live in Southern California. Guess which Disney we have--that's right, the original that opened on July 17th, 1955, with the 1963 original Enchanted Tiki Room. And Gayle McKennon, thank you for your comments! XOXO!

I could see this a million times and never get tired of it. I still have the large book and record on this from Disneyland that i got back from the early 70s. I wish they would've never shortened the show...i loved the part where the birds just tweeted and whistled a song right after the theme song at the beginning. I love this!

I think I'll always be a little partial to the Under New Management version of this since I did see it when I first went as a kid but I like this one.
I never imagined it coming back!! This is the show I loved the most of all Disney Parks including Tokyo! I love the tikibirds song and the tiki Gods drumming. It's really nice to see that the company do care for their history.

Thank god that monstrosity of an update is gone! this is what Disney should have done in the first place upgrade the animatronics and left the show intact.
They brought back "Buenos dias señorita" at the beginning. He never said that in a LONG time. Not even at DL.
All that's missing is Maynard's awesome spiel.
While I am thrilled to see this replace she horrid Iago version, why did they have to cut it down so much over the Disneyland version. The singalong, as someone says a few pages back, is the best part of the show and I am always delighted when the flowers in the corner join in in their song. This edit of the show is clearly put together with the "short attention span" generation in mind.

@clayrox117 Jerry Orbach was not in the original 1963 show. He re-recorded Pierre's lines for the UNM version, replacing the original 1963 voice. The original is what you are hearing.
@miserymaniac1 The song "In The Tiki Tiki Tiki Room" is not there in its entirety. There is a verse missing - the same verse that was cut from the Disneyland version:

When did this re open? Becuase literally 5 days ago, i went to the magic kingdom and it wasnt open....

We Grandmas and Grandpas had been hollering for Magic Kingdom to
bring back the classic Tiki Room ever since they screwed it up with that
horrible idiot Gilbert Gottfried's loud mouth.
My kids and I enjoyed the old Tiki Room and I wanted my grandkids to
experience it like it was. This is GREAT!

And the original version also includes the Oftenbach Number
When the animatronic caught fire, instead of remodeling it to the Enchanted Tiki Room, they should have brought back the Tropical Serenade, look it up.

first of all, i love this!!!
but whats up with Jerry Orbach? i hear a new voice for Pierre in certain parts of the show, but being that this is the original, shouldn't they have had all the Orbach dialogue from the original recording, instead of having to record new dialogue? if you have any information about this that would be great, thanks! (or maybe my ears are bad, and that actually is him, idk. any information would be very usefull to all of us)
@colmanja13 This was Walt Disney's original show and it has always been a classic. I'm sorry you find it boring and have no appreciation for its charm. Go to Universal and ride Harry Potter.

The Tiki room birds are ornithologically correct, while Iago and Zazu were stylized and cartoony, so there was a disconnect there. Also, the song choices made the new show seem even more dated than the original.

i remember when the fire erupted and i was 7. so i started going what is that mommy when i saw a tiny flame.i still have my kinda burnt clothes from that exact day, and it was he most insane thing ever. good show tho
