I didn't like any of the vegan mayos that are sold. Learned to make it myself (I'm a culinary dunce, so it *has* to be easy). The mayo I like best is based on clabbered soy drink or clabbered soy and aquafaba. Just the aquafaba doesn't work well for me.

@@taylorfusher2997all foods have a little bit of protein, and their are vegans who don’t eat nuts. Eating a variety of foods will ensure you get enough protein, including beans, legumes, broccoli, leafy greens, grains, quinoa, flax seeds, chia seeds etc. Please stop with the “where do you get the protein” nonsense. If you want to avoid mushy tofu you should throw your tofu in the freezer after you come home from the store. Then take it out and thaw with water or in the microwave whenever you need it. After that you can just press it with your hands and it'll let so much water out without falling apart. The freezing process totally changes the tofu's texture, it firms up and becomes more chewy/meaty and sort of chicken-like. This method makes the tofu lose a lot more water than the pressing method.
I would really appreciate an entire video of vegan sushi recipes, I've never made sushi before but I'm going to try pretty soon. I was just going to do avocado and carrots, but that spicy vegan crab looks incredible!
thank you for making ACTUALLY unique fresh recipes!!! theres so much of the same stuff over and over in vegan food content. definitely going to try most of these
drooling this entire video!!!! so excited to try the egg salad !! as a 30 yr old who has been a veg for 15 yrs this is the one flavor/dish I miss the most!!! thank you sososossoooooo much for this feel good tutorial !
I'm with you. Just Mayo made the best everything. Even my non vegan friends and family loved my potato salad. Then they started concentrating on their vegan egg products. Which I love but are priced too high. They say you can mail order the mayo but it's in those tiny plastic bottles that you have to cut open to get it all out and are priced ridiculously high. Thanks for your video.
Really excellent video. Not vegan myself but have been following you for years (since the tomato mock-salmon video!) regardless because your use of spices, your kitchen know-how, and your fearless attempts at SO many different techniques are inspiring to me as a home cook. Loved the production quality of this as well!
Not only do these recipes look amazing, but this video was beautiful! I could also listen to your voice all day, so soothing. You are so talented and inspiring!
I can't wait to give these recipes a try! I am especially excited to try using a cheese grater next time I use tofu in a recipe...genius! I agree with Eric, your voice-over along with the background music is very relaxing; you have been doing an amazing job producing your videos.
Your videos inspire me to get out of my rug and try new things! I'm so excited to make the spicy tofu salad sushi! One thing ~ you make so many amazing things ~ why don't you make your own vegan mayo? It takes literally minutes, is super cheap, and tastes so much better than anything I have ever tasted out of a jar ~ vegan or not. I cook down the aquafaba from a batch of chickpeas and use it along w/ oil, Dijon mustard, salt, some kind of acid (lemon juice, vinegar, pickle juice, etc.).
I never thought of grating the tofu - I'm stealing that idea! Also, I love the high protein tofu, i's my #1 go-to tofu for stir frys or marinating for salads. Great recipes!
That egg salad sandwich looks so nostalgic! I don't know why I'm such a stickler for buying only whole wheat bread. I think I'm going to buy a soft loaf of white bread next week and make this egg salad! Love your high-quality videos and recipes.
I love your tofu lettuce wraps so much. I have seen tofu with the chili garlic oil and never tried it- I might have to now. It really looks delightful.
Thank you very much! Always looking for more tofu recipes as I need to get more protein in for weight training. These look super easy so it'll help loads. Appreciate the content, keep it up 👍
These all look so good and something new to try. I pretty much live on tofu so I'm always in need of new recipes. I hear you on losing Just Mayo, though. I had a jar ONCE and it was the best vegan mayo I've ever had, now it's gone.
Thank you very much! I just recently began my vegan journey and recipes like this give me a lot of confidence that I don’t need meat, eggs or dairy in order to be creative. Thanks again!
Great video, Sarah! This was especially calming with the music and lighting. Also, the way you cut the silken tofu was pretty. I love silken tofu with white rice so that looks so good - will be making it soon
❤ all your videos and would love a dedicated vegan sushi one. I’m actually in my binge watch all Sarah Vegan Kitchen videos era 😂. So ironic this posted 🤗.
This video is so beautifully shot and relaxing to watch! You have always had calming videos but this was on another level ❤ would love some more vegan sushi ideas!
Dear Sara, I made the crab salad sushi. It’s was delicious! Despite my being too lazy to put the rice on the outside. Next time. I was wondering if you’ve ever experienced chewy nori. I don’t like it. Any ideas or hints?
Hi Sarah, thank you for this video. I really enjoy this video and I will be trying these recipes. I am trying the vegan life, but sometimes I get bored with what to make and eat. I am subscribed for more videos. Oh by the way you have a very calming, hypnotic voice.
I LOVE your channel! You always help me resolve my temporary meal/cooking dilemmas, lol! As always, these Tofu recipes are so great because they are not too challenging - except the "sushi", that will take some practice. Thank you❣

I've gone vegan a few times in my life (for more than a year at a time), and lately with all the stuff about cloned meat, and even fake meat (I don't want to know from where), I think I'm about to make this a permanent transition this time. Your videos are giving me so many realistic ideas, thank you for sharing your knowledge.🥰

I made the chili garlic tofu tonight and ate it with some brown rice. I am half-Korean and had to make it due to it being similar to something that my mom makes all the time. This was so good! The tiny town that I do my grocery shopping in does not have silken tofu anywhere so I had to use firm tofu but it was delicious. I will have to share with my mom. She is super picky and mostly eats Korean food but I just know yhat she will love this dish. My omnivore husband loved it. Looking forward to making the other recipes.
Wonderful recipes! Thank you. One very good way of making tofu more firm and chewy is to freeze it. Just leave it in its original packaging, freeze it overnight and then let it thaw, either naturally or by immersing it in hot water, which you can replace a few times. Then do the usual pressing or squeezing to get the water out & cook as normal. It works really well, although it obviously means a little bit of advance planning! (Oh....of course you leave it in its packaging if you're immersing it in water!)
I have noticed that when Westerners make tofu, they often like to make vegan versions of Western dishes (because they are vegan themselves) or they would make the relatively dry Asian dishes. None of them would even put tofu into soups. There was that time when I saw that American RUclipsr who was living in Japan, and as an everyday meal, he would make himself natto and rice, miso soup and a piece of fish. Though, he seems to be the exception because he's actually living in Japan as an ESL teacher. There is that Korean tofu soybean paste soup/stew, but so far, the only people who make the recipe are Koreans or other Asians. I suppose that when tofu is made in soup form, the flavoring is more watered-down and diluted which really contributes to the bean-y taste of tofu. The tofu itself becomes stronger in flavor. From what I see, a lot of Western dishes of tofu seem to be quite strong in flavor. They like to add a ton of sauces and salt and spices to tofu, masking the original taste of tofu.
I also notice that Western recipes tend to crush/grate/scramble etc. the tofu, or pan fry cubes. Like the only exception in this video is the chilli garlic recipe, which looks distinctly Chinese. And then there's also pressing tofu, which I never realized was a thing growing up in Asia until recently😅
Thank you for the sushi recipe, I can't wait to try it! I can recommend to use some cling film for the rolls with the rice outside. You basically have some cling film on the mat, then spread your rice and everything else. Once you are done you roll it and place it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes, once out of the fridge I'm usually able to peel the cling film off and the sushi stays together😊
