❤ Becky, this zone of urgency of usage is something I've never heard of before. My husband and I have been minimalists/essentialist for over 8 years now. His motto with stuff at work and at home is, "If in doubt, chuck it out". We moved into our new-to-us house earlier this year and we're gradually figuring out where to put things and what to get rid of / give away. I guess I've been "zoning" naturally, but now that I've watched this great video, I will probably end up moving some things to other spots. Thanks for sharing your zone ideas. It's brilliant 👏
These are imortant concepts especially for me as a single mom w adhd. We are in a one room cabin and last night i tried to focus on creating some zones for my dughter and i. We dont have clothsets or any storage so its overwheming. Im trying to find and hang small shelves to override bringing in more furniture. My daughter was in dance class so she got into makeup early, which i dont love personally but she does and she was going to get into sooner or later so im thoughtfully picking my battles and this is just not one. Instead of getting a vanity table to give her a designated place for storing and aplying makeup, i simply hung up an old mirror and set an old stepstool under it. This way she can sit on the stool or move it to use in other areas. No need for table or chair. I found a really pretty floating shelf and we hung it under her mirror. Now she has a designated zone for make up. The small shelf holds all her makeu and will act as a container to limit the amount she can own. I was always having to come behind her and remind her to gather up the makeup and return it to her basket and then return it to the bathroom. Nowit shoud stay put and look decent! 🎉
I love this! You’re very resourceful, and I do have a vanity but my favorite spot to apply make up is sitting on the floor in front of my full size body mirror!
Never thought naming them zones. I do keep a small shoe rack to hold house slippers as I try to not walk around my home with outside shoes, only use these indoor slipper shoes to put on as I come home. I don’t keep shoes on the rack that I’m not using daily all other shoes stored in my closet. Sissors are those forever lost items 😮 I always keep one pair with my wood kitchen utensils as that one is mine if you ask for sissors I keep the rest stored elsewhere. Everyone know don’t touch my sissors 😅 Love the idea of zoning things out by amount of use ❤
Zone 1 also has my sun hat because I live in the desert. I have a bag of swim stuff in Zone 2 for when I go to the pool. You're so right...I do have these different zones. Love that you're giving them a name and definition. It may help me rethink what I put in each one.
Am I the only one whose zone 1 is my car in my always- locked garage? I keep one of my car keys and my purse in my car. (I don’t have a house key because we have a key code.) This way, I have my hands free for my phone and whatever else I need that day. I love your videos! You are inspiring!
Becky, I love this 4 zone method. As I was watching, I was looking around the room at items and where they were stored, mentally putting them into one of the zones. I think this method would be useful for kitchen decluttering and organizing, and actually any room! Thinking about my Zone 4 items, I even started thinking that after Zone 4 is "out the door." (P.S. This could be your signature method and you could write a book at some point.) Thanks for a great video.
I can’t have visuals because they have to be out of sight or they feel like visual clutter. However, since my husband and I locked ourselves out of our home a few years ago, so zone 1 is my jean pocket where I keep my house keys at all times. 😂. But, now that I think about it, I do have particular zones. I just never thought about it. Clever ideas!
I really like this! I think uou 're right that subconsciously we sort of organise our things this wa way. I am still fe- cluttering a majorly cluttered home, so my irganising system is still in progress, and it 's hard to think about how I would fo this with everything and every zone. But I will definitely start training my brain to think about my things in this way asI de-clutter
@@minimalease thanks! I will ! Do you know The Clutter Bug ? I think her concept of the different organizational styles that we each fall into really meshes with your zone concept.
I keep key in the back of door, door locked keys still in door can’t forget them because you have to unlock door to get out. Hand bag I would never keep near front door It goes in my bedroom I know cards money etc is safe.
♥ Awesome ideas! I am so lucky that organization comes naturally to me but my partner and daughter need to have launch pads, open shelving in the bathroom, and that sort of thing.
It's from Madewell! I got it at a thrift store and so I can honestly say it has held up soo well! I've had it about 6-8 months and I haven't noticed any additional wear from using it everyday
@@minimalease I think I would be much less overwhelmed if daily use items are not mixed up with items that are infrequently used. I hate constantly looking at stuff I rarely use but still need. Like every time I reach for me toothbrush I don't want to be looking at bathroom stuff not often used. Separating these items into your zones makes a lot of sense.
Great ideas👍💕 I stopped taking my large purse every time I leave but I need a bag for the car? Then a tiny purse with just a few essentials But I dont want to have to bring it back forth from car It stresses me trying to figure this out I carry odd things Scisdors Make up Napkins Perfume Lotion Ha IN MY CAR NOT little purse But I still want them with me 😎👍 Any help?
can you keep a pair of scissors and napkins in the car? the lotion, makeup, and perfume I get. we all like to have different things to feel ready for the day! I have a small lotion in my bag, but for my day to day I don't bring makeup or perfume anymore. I do love a chapstick though haha. Maybe try testing out taking one thing out of your bag that feels like an essential and notice if you miss it after a week. Good luck friend!
I am loving this content and it all makes so much sense to me so thank you very much for sharing.
Aww I’m so glad! Thanks for sharing 💕

We don't have a garage but that sounds like a great idea! Thanks for sharing what works for your home!! Love it!
Great concept presented about categorizing stuff into zones Simple but effective. Great video.😊

Hey Becky, I love this method, it seems to make more sense somehow 🤔😊❤️

Love this approach, seems like a really good way to store everything. I would prefer not to have a zone 4 though
