    I also don't use a lot of wall decor either, but when I do I find that larger pieces are less distracting to me on the wall , for instance I have an old large gold antique mirror , its more of a focal piece like furniture but keeps the floor clear .❤

    ♥I like your idea of lowering the TV. You could even rehang it so it looks like it's sitting on the shelf to make it appear more purposeful. I know you're already good at taking any negativity with a grain of salt because you're so sure of what is calming and enjoyable to you but I also want to assure you that there are those of us watching who also like the industrial look of the shelf brackets and the minimalist aesthetic throughout your home. You have a beautiful home and I thank you for sharing it with us!

    I downsized from a three bedroom house to a condo, and I love it. Not only did I get rid of a lifetime of junk, I feel the stress of holding on to stuff is gone. One thing I’ve learned during this move is furniture with legs allows a room to breathe. So any furniture I buy has to have legs for space to be seen underneath.

      @@minimalease I didn't expect anyone to respond to this. It was said with a hint of sarcasm, even if my mother does in fact have a serious hoarding problem.
      Actually no. None of us have been able to pinpoint an actual reason. Even giving away things for a good cause, is often somewhat problematic. It makes no difference how well you explain it to her, she still doesn't want to give away or throw away things. Luckily, at this point she has so many things in so many places, that she has forgotten what she has and where, and some of us are taking action, simply throwing away heaps of junk, much of it never used and still wrapped in plastic.
      My mothers favourite hoarding item is dictionaries! It makes no difference if she speaks the languages, or how many of them she has. All of them have to be kept! Even if I do think she understands that they have zero value, and you actually have to pay to get rid of them at a recycling center, she still ''needs'' them.
      She takes offense when I clean around the house she lives in, even if it's already way beyond a point where one could consider having guests over. At times I still get things done, but she tries to slow me down by any means possible.
      She was in the hospital for a couple of weeks last year and I went through junk for about 30 hours. Even if it almost looked livable when she came back, she says that I ''destroyed'' the place and that she can't find anything, even if the complete opposite is true. I found things that she had been searching for, for a number of years.
      Thanks =:)

      It sounds like there is some mental/psychological stuff going on inside your mom, and hoarding is her unhealthy coping mechanism. It could be stemming from unhealed trauma in her past, intense grief or loneliness, a scarcity mindset or fear of the unknown future, or a combination of things. Yes, when it is that engrained, they don't want to even get rid of actual trash and are made when things are taken out or moved, even when it's cleaner and healthier to live in. It's very sad.
      It sounds like she may need more help than you adult kids can give her, but she may not be open to the counseling or help and may not want to face the pain and feelings at the root of why. I would encourage you guys to just respect how she chooses to live if she's not interested in help, even when it's hard to watch, and maintain your own healthy boundaries for yourself and your family. It's hard to watch our loved ones going down self-destructive and unhealthy paths, similar to addicts, but we need to respect their choices and allow the natural consequences to teach them while still offering our love and support with healthy boundaries. Unfortunately, I'm familiar with this too. I hope you find healing and I hope your mom is one day open to the help.

    • @incumbentvinyl9291
      @incumbentvinyl9291 3 месяца назад

      @@KittyCuties33 I assume you're writing me.
      You're right, I am certain there are many things you mentioned that are involved int his particular case. Alcoholism and health problems don't help, nor does old age. She's a wild ass that will not accept any kind of help, because she's ''dealing with it without serious problems''.
      She lives in a cottage that I own. She has basically made the space unlivable and unvisitable for the rest of the family and any potential guests.
      I'm past accepting her boundaries. She may not like or accept the help, but it makes her daily life easier either way. It's more like dealing with a child at this point. I set the boundaries, and she'll have to live with them. In that sense she's not in control anymore, especially when it comes to heaps of things in other locations. She lives in peace most of the time at the cottage, I visit like twice a month and only clean properly a few times a year.
      The grave will help. That's the only cure.

    • @KittyCuties33
      @KittyCuties33 3 месяца назад

      @@incumbentvinyl9291 That sounds very difficult. It's hard when the parent/child roles become reversed because then we aren't able to get the care we need as well. I can understand though that since it's your property, that certain levels of cleanliness are to be expected. That can definitely complicate the already hard relationship. Thankfully, in my situation it is their own property, not mine, so that helps in just letting them live how they choose to and keeping healthy boundaries myself. I hope you can find solutions that work for both of you in this difficult situation. I also hope you take some time to process and heal from your painful wounds in the relationship. It doesn't fix the other side of things, but seeking my own healing has helped me feel more at peace and having resentment and bitterness slowly replaced with love while still not enabling wrong behavior. I wish you well in your healing journey too.
