7 years later and nothing has changed. Green Bay's special teams is still a dumpster fire. Rodgers wasted a great effort from his defense in the latest playoff debacle vs SF (no TD allowed by defense) just like he did in this game against Seattle (5 turnovers forced).
Surprised self-styled genius Joe Rogaine couldn't help him. Though I didn't see enough of the game to say for sure how much criticism Rodgers should receive. Those are the only two games in the playoffs where he cost them a chance to win a title after his defense played decently (though this game they shat the bed at the end, that game they played well all the way through). At least in this game he managed to rally the Packers to a game tying field goal to try and salvage the situation partially, in the 49ers game at home he had Lazard open, and if he hits him Lazard more than likely gets a ton of yardage and maybe into FG range to win the game for Green Bay - but of course he made a bad choice and directly cost his team the game. Anyhow, every other game the team had no chance, or they got destroyed.
Please do the 1991 world series. One of the greatest series ever played! Two teams that went from Last place in their division the season prior to playing in the World Series. An interesting video could be on the 2017 Detroit Lions, week 3, against Atlanta. The Lions got a TD to win the game with 8 seconds left, but it was automatically reviewed. The refs overturned their call, AND because of the review, there was a ten second runoff, and the game was over. The season ended with the Lions having a 9-7 record and missed the playoffs with Atlanta taking the last slot with a 10-6 record. Because the Lions missed the playoffs, Jim Caldwell was fired for Matt Patricia who turned the Lions into losers again. Pretty much all because of that one play.
Lions fan here... That happened on my birthday. I'm also still salty about the picked up flag for pass interference/no flag for Dez running onto the field without his helmet from this post season when they played Dallas. STG, being a Lions fan is only good for describing ways to lose games you didn't even know were possible.
@@cr-nd8qh They did. I remember the Detroit Free Press was all over it when Atlanta snagged the last spot and this game was highlighted. I HATE taking this avenue, but the amount of times that official bad calls/no calls have directly decided games against us is outrageous. And in many cases, it leads to some ridiculous last minute play that is all anyone remembers. Refs missed a clear delay of game on Baltimore this year, but nobody will ever acknowledge that because they will only be talking about Justin Tucker's (admittedly impressive) 66-yard record field goal. I have to watch a replay of that ****ing "Monday Night Miracle" hail mary from Rodgers every single time the Packers play at Ford Field, but nobody remembers the phantom face mask call (replays clearly show that the defender never touched Rodgers facemask) that gave him another shot after he missed the first one. I could go on, but being a Lions fan is truly an exercise in masochism.
@Call Me, BLEGH Me, If You Wanna Reach Me you’re a dummy. In comparing the two positions alone it’s clear Rodgers isn’t near GOAT even Mahommes at this point is higher at this conversation at this point.
@@blowc1612 ok I’m a tb12 hater who can still admit Brady’s the goat(bc he’s that damn good) but wtf did you just say? You know mahomes has spent his career in the best offense system possibly in nfl history right? Most of his throws are designed plays(including screens and jet passes) to make his job easier by throwing to hill and kelce. Mahomes Is a generational talent but Rodgers has never had that kind of help. He’s had help but he’s never had a good system.
As a Seahawks fan this is by far the most memorable victory ever! Even more so than beating up on the Broncos in the Super Bowl the year before. The emotions in this game were off the charts. I gave up hope so many times
Same. I ended up on my living room floor after the last interception Russ threw out of frustration, then I didn't leave that spot once they started rolling for the fear of messing with the good energy. But that's just how superstitious I am haha!
I'm a Bears fan but during GB - SEA and NE - ATL, I knew all along that those games weren't OVER OVER. The 4th Wilson pick looked bleak, but then GB went 3 and out. Even when it became 19-14, I knew Seattle still had a chance even if they didn't recover the onside kick. I think they still had 2 timeouts and the 2 minute warning, so that scenario wasn't impossible. As Rich Eisen pointed out on the highlights, Seattle was unfathomably going to score too QUICKLY! That was true, since GB was able to get a tying field goal.
I was at my staff holiday party that night, stressing out in front of a bowling alley bar TV as the fourth quarter ticked away. The bartender was a gloating Packers fan, and I was the only one in the bar, sitting alone with my Seahawks gear on. As soon as that final INT was made, I got texts from friends and family telling me, sorry kid, better luck next season. And I thought, no, it's not over. I mean, WHO takes a knee with over 5 minutes still left in regulation?? Sure, their QB is Aaron Rodgers, but you play down the clock, and try to get as many yards as possible. You don't slide down to the turf and start celebrating your victory prematurely. I went on to witness the greatest playoff comeback to that date. That onside kick was so improbable, and yet the execution was perfect. The two point conversion/ desperation pass would never have worked in another game, and that day it did. And meanwhile, the bar starts getting busier and louder with coworkers, who have no skin in the game, coming to cheer on the Seahawks. The bartender, unsurprisingly, disappeared right before overtime started, and I knew that when Seattle won the toss that they would win it all. All this being said, it's a shame that the rules for the NFL don't allow for the team that didn't win the toss to have a chance at possession in OT. Imagine a game where Rodgers responds in kind with a Hail Mary pass of his own to tie the game again. Or where the LOB clinches the win for their team in due fashion. That's great television and great for the sport! It was a dramatic walk-off win for Seattle, and it's still one of the most exhilarating games I've witnessed, but for a win to be based off a lucky coin flip when skill and timing have gotten them this far, especially where the outcome determines which franchise goes on to play for a Super Bowl title, it seems to be robbing the players and the fans of a fair finish. Yeah, the defense needs to establish itself if they want the win, but it's only one team called upon to do that unless both teams get possession. When the winner of the coin toss gets first possession of OT, their likelihood of winning the game is above 90%. That is hardly a level playing field, and that's what they need to change next season.
Speaking of OT rules, I have an idea that avoids the coin toss issue. If a playoff game goes into OT, regard the transition between 4th & OT the same way you do from 3rd to 4th quarter. ie, If a team has the ball on their 30 and it's 3 and 10, they start the "5th quarter" with that down and distance and just continue on. If you end the 4th with tying field goal, you kick off, which would have had the Chefs kicking off to the Bills the other night. Basically, rather than start "a new game", continue into the OT period where the game left off. It would create some new strategies on how to deal with that scenario.
Wait, you didn’t include the fake field goal throw for a TD by the punter, who celebrated it by pointing at the Packers sideline and mocking the belt, that turned the game around for Seattle?
One of the greatest facts about this game is that the Seattle offense had been so stifled at that point that Ryan had more passing yards than Wilson after the fake punt TD.
I've been saying for years that Kearse deserves a movie made about this moment in time. It's an inspirational home town hero story like Vince Papale's Invincible movie. Owen Wilson would be perfect for the role as Pete Carroll. ;)
I went to high school with Jermaine at Lakes in Lakewood, WA. We graduated in the same class. He's always been such a great guy. Was super clutch in HS too, but was always overshadowed by a couple other guys on the team. His story would be a cool one to look at. And haha! Owen Wilson would be a great choice for Pete!
As a Packers fan, this was the most painful day in my life. It also couldn't have been posted at a better time. Thanks SB. Would love super bowl 45 rewinder.
When I think of the craziest playoff game finishes ever, this is ALWAYS the first one that comes to mind. The Packers/Cardinals from 2016 would probably be next
@@scottpope7835 Yeah, it was possibly the best overall weekend of playoff football. What's your point? No single game had an ending quite like the Seahawks/Packers game. It was 19-7 with under 3 minutes left in the game. Then an extremely unlikely onside kick, followed by a quick TD with one of the craziest 2 point conversions ever. The Packers then tied it with about a minute left, and then the game winning TD in OT by the Seahawks. As good as last weekend was, no ending was as good as this game
This is legit my favorite game of all time. Crowded dive bar in Seattle, standing room only in the back room, everyone glued to the screen. When total mania hit I threw my jacket at the TV in celebration in sync with Kearse, and nobody cared because that environment was electric. Oof, how I miss the good ol days. #retirepete
@@AleisterMeowley Oak on Beacon Hill. Should clarify it's a pretty nice place and wouldn't normally call it a dive, but in yesteryear the back bar would go through a transformation for playoff games. One bathroom and sticky floors for all. Great burgers as well.
The storyline of all those interceptions being Kearse targets, then having Kearse catch that wonderful game winner in OT, makes this my absolute favorite game outside of the SB win no question
The 2013 Atletico MIneiro's Libertadores Championship run deserves a deep rewind. 3 improbable comebacks on 3 elimination games. Vitor PK BLock against Tijuana is probably the best point, or the last missed PK from Olimpia. Its great content, and secret base has the power! You guys are awesome!
I went though every human emotion watching this game and hoped so bad the hawks season wouldn’t end there.. I almost wish it did considering how the Super Bowl ended and how that ultimately affected the team.
I know what you mean. Honestly think the outcome of that Super Bowl slowly destroyed the fabric of the team, esp the defense. Had they just lost this game, it would have felt less devastating
In some ways, this game was more exciting than the 2013 NFC championship game... Russell Wilson had so many fluke interceptions due to his WRs not catching passes (tipping the ball to GB players), but he remained composed and hit Kearse on a beautiful post route to win in OT... I was so excited and simultaneously in disbelief after this game finished! Great video, Secret Base!!!!! #GoHawks
I was at this game. I remember people leaving with 5 minutes left. I decided to stay because I wanted to applaud my team for a solid season, thinking it was over. Wow was I glad I stayed the whole game! Never thought I’d witness history. Man I miss that feeling
I was at this game. There was a group of cheese heads sitting right in front of us. All throughout the game they were turning around letting us have it. As soon as we got the onside kick, the guy next to me decided to snatch one of the dudes cheese hats and toss it like a Frisbee about 30 yards down into the concourse.
As a Packers fan watching this live was heartbreaking. Bostic wasn’t supposed to ever touch the ball on that onside. just the absolute collapse that i watched was heart wrenching. what a well done video

He was wise to kick field goals he was going against an all time great defense if he kept going for it on 4th down in the red zone against the L.O.B the packers would leave points on the board
@@semionjohnson1351 But the first time they had gained yards on every run. With just one yard to go, they definitely should have gone for it. And on top of that, even if they somehow didn't get it both times, the Seahawks would have the ball at their own 1 yard line. Most likely would have been three and outs, if not a safety, and the Packers would have it back likely in Seattle territory.
Vikes fan here. One of the Minneapolis sports radio broadcaster's Dan Cole "Common Man", on KFAN 100.3, still calls this game the greatest Vikings win in the history of the franchise. They even made shirts with the score on it to purchase at the Minnesota State Fair in 2015.
I don't think the Packers have ever been able to recover from this meltdown. Every time they've at least made it to the NFC Conference Championship, they completely fall apart whether it be the offense blowing it, defense failing, or special teams doing awful. Packers fans to this day still get nightmares about this game I bet. I can only imagine the horror they felt as they watched it all fall apart. It was probably like all those Falcons' Super Bowl parties when they had a massive lead on the Patriots, and then watching it disappear.
Can confirm. I've been a Packers fan for nearly 2 decades and in that time we've had plenty of success...I still think about this game maybe once a week.

@@VeteranVandal it used to be only a field goal was needed.for years. They are getting enough backlash this year they probably will change it. This was the game that locked me in as a Seahawks fan. I grew up in Nigeria where there isn’t any NFL coverage at all. I moved to Canada in 2014 and immediately fell in love with the Seahawks and Lynch. That NFCG was the most stressful yet fun I’ve ever had watching American football. Watching that ball fall into kearse’s hands as we won was almost like taking 5 shots at once. Glorious.
I remember watching this game at my friend’s house, we literally went nuts on that walk off touchdown. I would like to add: The Seahawk who recovered the onside kick was Chris Matthews. Mere WEEKS before this game, he was working as a retail employee at Nike, and got a call to try out for the WR squad DURING WORK. The rest is history. He even caught a TD in the Super Bowl two weeks after this absolute anomaly of a game.
Lots of pain for lots of fanbases who had high expectations this year. Would be nice if the league would allow a Bengals-Niners SB as a consolation prize
I gotta say. I really appreciate you guys striking a balance for us bears fans. You caused PTSD with the Parkey double doink, but you guys have made amends with us with the Seahawks/packers nfc championship
I feel like the pinnacle was the tip, ( Dreamcrushing 9ers, pouring rain, stifling D, with Rainier looming) and we would go on to win a ring that they can *never* take away from us. Win some, lose some. Still though- #retirepete
One thing you didn’t mention in the video was how the Packers settled for field goals on their first two red zone drives of the game. They were absolutely dominating Seattle at that point, but only came away with six points. That’s eight points left on the table. The score should have been 27-7 at that point in the 4th quarter instead of 19-7. Mike McCarthy sure Mike McCarthied the hell out of that game.
I was in the Army at the time of this game. I was over at one of my sgt’s house (a hardcore green bay Wisconsinite). We had three native Washingtonians and three Wisconsinites there. Truly one of my best football experiences ever! To see the packers fans go from insufferable smack-talking tools to speechless mutes. Priceless!
This is fun for me to watch, because I moved from Seattle to Vermont in September 2014, and I was living in a cabin on a mountainside with no electricity, no telephone, no Internet, and no plumbing, so I completely missed the whole football season, and only heard the Super Bowl on the radio (how about that crazy 4th Quarter??).
I'm sure I watched this game live, but it's been so long I honestly couldn't remember what happened. I really enjoyed the deep dive into reliving that one moment. Keep up the great videos!
I remember feeling after this game that the Seahawks were going to become a historical dynasty. This game was the franchise’s peak. Then the next game happened and it’s been a slow and brutal decline ever since
I am begging you Secret Base, please do a rewinder on the Mile High Miracle. There was so much that happened before and during this game for both teams, and as a Ravens fan it would give me joy during this painful offseason
@@mjf2891 of course it shouldnt but Rodgers gave his team a chance of 99% of winning that game and they blew it on an onside kick that was extremely easy to catch not even going to mention the fake FG play that resulted on a TD its not like what happened last saturday which Rodgers does have his share of blame for only scoring 10 points when his defense was stellar (even tho the packers had a 89% of winning before the blocked punt)
Someone told me Saturday's game(Green Bay Packers Vs. San Francisco 49ers) was Green Bay Packers worst loss ever. I disagree, I mention this game was The Packers worst loss. And it's funny that Mike McCathy was The Packers coach at the time.
I love deep-dives like this. It sets up fantastic moments like this to either give fans the experience of seeing it for the first time, or letting fans relive it like it's the first time
I remember watching this game in its entirety by myself on the couch. I believe it was a night game too. As a Bears fan, I was so happy. I could not believe it! I was screaming when they recovered the on-side kick. I was just absolutely screaming bloody murder when they Wilson converted that 2-point conversion.
One other thing about that Hasselbeck game - Packers' Super Bowl winning head coach Mike Holgrem had left the Pack a few years earlier and joined the Seahawks, and so there was some bad blood between the two teams regarding that (at least among Packers fans)
As a packers fan, if y’all would’ve won the superbowl, it would’ve been one of the greatest runs ever if not ever. But oh well, that’s football, heartbreaking for both our fanbases knowing we haven’t reached the superbowl or tasted glory from that time onward even till this day, both our fanbases are still waiting. It’s sad but at least y’all had one of the greatest comebacks in nfl history. Us? We live with some of the greatest games ever in the playoffs but always end it in humiliating and embarrassing fashion. Damn I need a drink now 😅
And then the Seahawks went to Super Bowl 49 and gloriously won it on a Marshawn Lynch run from the 1 yard line in the closing seconds of the game. That’s really what happened. Really.

It would be the second most memorable if they handed the ball to Lynch, not that I'm bitter
It was a great day for us as Seahawks fans, it was destiny…then two weeks later 😞
@@juandufree4309 😂
Night? That game was at 1pm, where were you?
Well they changed the OT rules now.
Wait, you didn’t include the fake field goal throw for a TD by the punter, who celebrated it by pointing at the Packers sideline and mocking the belt, that turned the game around for Seattle?
One of the greatest facts about this game is that the Seattle offense had been so stifled at that point that Ryan had more passing yards than Wilson after the fake punt TD.
the timing of this video is almost as good as the video itself lol
I've been saying for years that Kearse deserves a movie made about this moment in time. It's an inspirational home town hero story like Vince Papale's Invincible movie. Owen Wilson would be perfect for the role as Pete Carroll. ;)
I went to high school with Jermaine at Lakes in Lakewood, WA. We graduated in the same class. He's always been such a great guy. Was super clutch in HS too, but was always overshadowed by a couple other guys on the team. His story would be a cool one to look at. And haha! Owen Wilson would be a great choice for Pete!
@@ryanburkholder2076 Wilson's too young. Maybe Richard Gere instead?
@@JoeVideoed Pete Carroll was only 61 when they signed Jermaine. Owen Wilson could easily pull that off.

When I think of the craziest playoff game finishes ever, this is ALWAYS the first one that comes to mind. The Packers/Cardinals from 2016 would probably be next
Were you watching football last weekend?
Try Saints-49ers 2011. Best playoff game I ever saw
Every Packers/Cards and Packers/Seahawks playoff game turns out to be insane.
#retirepete
Liked it especially because of your hashtag...
What bar were you at?
@@AleisterMeowley Oak on Beacon Hill. Should clarify it's a pretty nice place and wouldn't normally call it a dive, but in yesteryear the back bar would go through a transformation for playoff games. One bathroom and sticky floors for all. Great burgers as well.
@@THEjoelivingstone right on! Never been there myself but I know where it’s at. I was at the Little Red Hen in green lake
@@AleisterMeowley lol, exact same reply to you from my end - never been but I know where it is. What a night.
The storyline of all those interceptions being Kearse targets, then having Kearse catch that wonderful game winner in OT, makes this my absolute favorite game outside of the SB win no question
The Hallmark of the Aaron Rodgers era fantastic failures...
Oh, no. I just realized Bills/Chiefs 13 seconds is probably going to get a Rewind in a few years. 😭
Is it that bad, tho? If the coin toss went the other way, Bills would've won.
The coin toss is so dumb.
Arguably the entire divisional round and Week 18 will be getting a deep rewind sooner then later.
Is that when Denver won
@@cr-nd8qh that was when we picked against New England on the goal line
Oh yeah that play
In some ways, this game was more exciting than the 2013 NFC championship game... Russell Wilson had so many fluke interceptions due to his WRs not catching passes (tipping the ball to GB players), but he remained composed and hit Kearse on a beautiful post route to win in OT...
I was so excited and simultaneously in disbelief after this game finished!
Great video, Secret Base!!!!!
#GoHawks
I'll never forget watching this game in my living room, I was in school and felt bad for Green Bay , this must be a heartbreaking game for them.
I was at this game. I remember people leaving with 5 minutes left. I decided to stay because I wanted to applaud my team for a solid season, thinking it was over. Wow was I glad I stayed the whole game! Never thought I’d witness history. Man I miss that feeling
Y'ALL 12TH MAN ROLE IS THE COOLEST FAN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT, HOPING THE BENGALS WILL RECOGNIZE THE MEMBERS OF THE"JUNGLE" SOON
Wow so you acted like a kid too? Lmao
As a Packers fan watching this live was heartbreaking. Bostic wasn’t supposed to ever touch the ball on that onside. just the absolute collapse that i watched was heart wrenching. what a well done video

As a Packers fan, I vividly remember this game from start to finish. This one is gonna hurt to revisit.
Look I watched the super bowl 49 rewind, you can watch this
I don’t think this hurts as much as Seattle throwing the ball on the 1 yard line.
Mike McCarthy going for field goals in the red zone kinda threw the game but at the same time the Brian Bostick Blunder is going to be remembered more
He was wise to kick field goals he was going against an all time great defense if he kept going for it on 4th down in the red zone against the L.O.B the packers would leave points on the board
Eh, what softens the blow is that Wilson played for Wisconsin, we could still root for the Seahawks because of that.
*laughs bitterly in Vikings fan, pats the couch next to me*
The fact y'all still haven't done the Bills-Cheifs 22' divisional round rewind is crazy, one of the best games of all time 😂🔥
Seriously, what's taking them so long?? 🤣
My Tommy lost but it was the best weekend of football in my 45 years of watching. I feel bad for bills mafia they must be devastated. Definitely should’ve squib kicked it to knock off a couple seconds off the 13
Decided on a coin toss. Yikes. I hate the ot rules so so much. I wanted the game to go until someone failed. That's all I'm asking: leave it on the hands of the players.
I want a vid about the stupid coin toss. I hate it and it isn't football.
@@VeteranVandal it used to be only a field goal was needed.for years. They are getting enough backlash this year they probably will change it. The only problem is if they both scored touchdowns on opening drives, then what just keep playing on an in. One of the reasons everyone seems to score after getting the kick off is the defense is usually gassed.
This timing is definitly not a coincidence.
Probably my favorite game I ever watched as a Seahawks fan, as I didn’t really watch the Super Bowl cause I thought it was boring (I was a little kid at the time). Glad we won the most important game in the series against the Packers
I say this as a Bears fan, I love it, but y’all are savage as hell lol not even a full week after Aaron Rodgers and the Packers once again Choked in the playoffs you guys come up with the idea for this… Love it just straight up love it
Thank you SB. Amazing as always.
I would like to add:
The Seahawk who recovered the onside kick was Chris Matthews. Mere WEEKS before this game, he was working as a retail employee at Nike, and got a call to try out for the WR squad DURING WORK. The rest is history.
He even caught a TD in the Super Bowl two weeks after this absolute anomaly of a game.
Wow.
Lots of pain for lots of fanbases who had high expectations this year. Would be nice if the league would allow a Bengals-Niners SB as a consolation prize
It will be Bengals vs Rams.
I gotta say. I really appreciate you guys striking a balance for us bears fans. You caused PTSD with the Parkey double doink, but you guys have made amends with us with the Seahawks/packers nfc championship
As a Seahawks fan, this is the best game I’ve ever watched. The pinnacle of Seattle football. The rest is all downhill from there.
Same, I feel the same way
I feel like the pinnacle was the tip, ( Dreamcrushing 9ers, pouring rain, stifling D, with Rainier looming) and we would go on to win a ring that they can *never* take away from us. Win some, lose some. Still though- #retirepete
This really was the emotional peak for a Seahawks fan. Maybe up to the third quarter of the next game. Then after that…
Firing Carroll was necessary in 2020. Imagine now.
5 years from now. Please make a deep rewind for Josh Allen vs Patrick Mahomes 2022 divisional round
Priceless!
I can’t wait for the deep rewind on the Bills vs Chiefs game from Sunday in 6 years
This is fun for me to watch, because I moved from Seattle to Vermont in September 2014, and I was living in a cabin on a mountainside with no electricity, no telephone, no Internet, and no plumbing, so I completely missed the whole football season, and only heard the Super Bowl on the radio (how about that crazy 4th Quarter??).
That two-point conversion has to be one of the most improbable scoring plays yet...

One other thing about that Hasselbeck game - Packers' Super Bowl winning head coach Mike Holgrem had left the Pack a few years earlier and joined the Seahawks, and so there was some bad blood between the two teams regarding that (at least among Packers fans)
Special Teams blunders, what a shocker! Never seen that happen before.
Jermaine Kearse: dubious in Qs 1-3, absolute LEGEND in the 4th Q and OT!
