@flippedbyabby I really like the bureau itself but I would have preferred the mahogany. It's an antique so yes...they used flat head screws. They started off being hand crafted. If a flat head strips...you can use a diamond dipped saw blade on your rotary tool. Sometimes you need to use a "tap out or reverse out" bit. I watched this to learn the technique so thanks for the lesson. Like you, I'm making myself go outside my comfort zone. I've been learning framing, roofing and siding to build my own workshop and storage. Once they are done I'm starting my own woodworking business repurposing and refurbishing items to keep them out of the landfill. I appreciate your experiment and I see the appeal for this look for others.
You did this piece justice. It's amazing how the details really stand out and look elegant with your changes. I love this piece. I just found your channel and like how you restore, not just paint the pieces.
I just subscribed after coming across one of your other videos. Very nice work. FYI I live in an area where I get a lot of wind like you had this day so I put on the chemical and cover it with plastic right away while it does it's job and then peel it off as I go while removing it. This way it doesn't get all dried on the piece.
Think you did a gorgeous job on it. They know the shop towels are kind of expensive so would recommend that if you have someone that wears T-shirts and they got some old ones cut them up and use it and then you can either wash them or throw them out because they make excellentwork great job
Abby, I think that this turned out better than I thought it would. The hardware was made for this piece. It looks very French! I love to watch your face while you work out an issue.
Love how you did this piece! 😍 I used to have so much trouble with glaze! It’s still not my favorite to do, even though I love how it looks when done right. One thing I have learned that makes it easier, is to apply an even layer of topcoat BEFORE the glaze. It helps the glazing medium to glide and not “grab” in spots. Then I seal as usual. If for some reason I can’t use a spray gun to seal ( if I didn’t own a sprayer, or wasn’t comfortable using one) I’ll use a can of spray sealer to lock in the glaze before using a couple of additional coats of brush or wipe on topcoat.
This pieces checks all the boxes for me. I just do not think there is any more beautiful furniture. One day I will be able to afford a home full of it. ❤
I am ALWAYS wondering WHO in the hell and WHY in the hell someone somewhere once THUNK a FLATHEAD screw was even a tiny bit of a good idea. Every time I come across a FLATHEAD screw used on a project I am reminded how much they SUCK and the silly SUCKER who THUNK em up! I've enjoyed the few videos I've watched since coming across your Channel very much. Very thorough and knowledgeable. Your attention to detail and quality and Perfectionism are things I make sure to do my best with. They often go unnoticed or not appreciated. But others who do notice and appreciate those things like you and I. Know the extra value and see the greater worth. Your work is gorgeous and very well done. I see the value and worth in you and your work. I look forward to seeing future projects and more videos. GREAT JOB -JD Taylor Great J
I like the way it turned out. I wonder how it would look with a dark top? I really like the hardware on this piece I think it's perfect. I don't know about that stripper, I've seen other -people use it and it just seems terrible to me. It's been a long time since I was in the refinishing business but I used a stripper that would remove several layers of paint and varnish with 1 treatment. The trick was to lay it on really thick. I liked how you were so inventive on stripping and cleaning the carved parts, you did a great job.
Came very pretty. That is my style of furniture. Like you not a fan of the hardware. Idk what everyone else would use but myself I think I would go with a glass knob. Thank you I have never did a glaze before. I would love to try.
i sat through the whole video, was about to give you advice but your mother took care of this. Quality of the Fuji vs the Wagner is night and day. My gun came with your standard 1 Qt bottom feed cup, I ordered a gravity cup also. I used the Qt cup for paint and gravity feed cup for top coats. (IE Lacquers Shellac Poly) you can add different size spray needles. take a minute and go watch a video on you tube on the Fuji. You won't be disappointed.
I just found your station. You do an excellent job of explaining what your doing and the finished products are beautiful. I just subscribed and I can’t wait to see more. ❤
The dreaded comfort zone. Ugh! Sometimes I have to tell myself, “Amy, it’s just wood.” I’ve been procrastinating on building a base, as well as using my Kreg jig, for two years!!! What’s up with that? I’m enjoying your videos and admire the success you’re having. You go girl!
@@flippedbyabby probably depends on how close the bristles are to each other, tighter would be better on smaller pieces but I have seen pieces about the same size that looked great.
I love the piece! I wonder just how similar the Retique it is to the antiquing kits of the 70s. It's the very same application and looks the very same!
I’ve just started following you in the last couple of months and I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Your work is awesome. I kinda wish you didn’t show the end result in the beginning. What’s that called, a thumb nail? I like to wait till the end. I love this piece. It does look French!
check out greenez strip, i saw some other furniture flipper using it. also, putting plastic foil on the stripper will prevent it from drying, so you can let it work longer.
So pretty with this glazed color. Is it water based glaze? Never thought to use a wet rag instead of dry. I was impressed with how well the scrubby attachments worked on all that detail. I am considering some sanding attachments brushes that go on a drill that work in a similar way to get into the detail work.
You made it elegant and very importantly you knew 1) when to pivot and 2) when to stop. Too often these pieces get too much bling added. They are dramatic for sure, but far less elegant. Great job! Continue to stretch and grow. And IMO you'll reach a wider market if you don't make every piece look like it came off an assembly line with massive machines replicating the same design over and over. You're more creative than you think!
That is a gorgeous piece! Love the hardware and everything else! Curious why you went through all that stripping when you were gonna paint it anyway? I would have painted over the exciting paint ( except the drawer sides of course). But, I’ll do ANYTHING not to strip I despise it so much! 🤣🤣🤣🤷♀️
My original intention was to strip it all the way down but that early 2000s mahogany finish was soooo tough (and it’s difficult to get to a light wood color). Also, I would start to lose those carved details with 5+ layers of primer & paint
@@flippedbyabby I had that thought about the thickness of all the paint layers. Makes sense. Ugh…you really sucked it up and did it the right way! Congratulations on a great outcome.
That finish worked so beautifully with that style. It modernized it without losing all of it's character. Beautiful.
Thank you!!
I'm glad you kept it as is, only gave it a different color. Thank for saving vintage furniture from the landfills. Stunning!
thank you!! you are so kind :)

You really elevated that piece. Nice job! 😊❤

Looks great! Thanks for showing your process good and bad!
Thanks for watching!
It really turned out fantastic. About Craftsmen: They don't call them Artisans for nothing. It really is an art. Every part of it.
It looks a million times better.
Thank you!!
Gorgeous outcome. This piece of furniture touch my heart. It is definitely my stile. Well done!
Thank you so much!! My mom loves this style too
I know you had your frustrations along the way but wow it is truly a piece worth having!
thank you so much!! the comments on the short video are so mean 🥲
You can spray the chemical stripper with water or use a wet sponge and it should hopefully work as normel.
Thank you!! I’ll have to try this out 😊
Thanks for a wise Mom full of knowledge and a daughter’s willingness to receive it ❣️. It turned out absolutely amazing ❣️
very nice
This one is probably my favorite so far!!! From the before to after is insane!! Definitely glad you didn’t donate this one!😂
Yay! Thank you!

had a wagner replaced it with a fuji system. night and day difference
what was the major difference you noticed? might upgrade soon!

100% better..Love it..
Not my style, but it turned out so pretty that I would totally put this in my home. It really turned out lovely.
Beautiful!!
Thank you! Cheers!
There’s a product called SCUMBLE ( Artisan enhancements) that extends the working time of paint. And you can fix mistakes and no streaks.
LOVE it.
It looks good but why did you strip and sand the paint off if you were planning to paint it?
It’s was quite thick in some areas! The more layers of paint you add, the more you start to lose the details in the carvings!
This would look great using a stiff wire brush on the glaze for a pottery barn style finish
Love that look too! I think the lines might be overwhelming on this piece 🤔 but I could be wrong!

That will definitely work on a drill as well! Yes it’s retique wood n stain Barnwood but antique glaze will work as well!

Beautiful new look, you can also clear wax it first then glaze.. Did you put a clear coat on it?
It turned out amazing & I love the hardware!!
Yay! Thank you!
Can u do a video on how you change out the different dremel heads, thxs
Definitely! Thank you for the suggestion :) I always call it a "Dremel" on accident lol this one is the Hart rotary tool
Much better..
you should get a sandblaster
I’d like to try that or a soda blaster!
What glaze did you use? It’s beautiful.
I have this piece Thnks for the 💡
You are welcome!
Question since the stripper had dried could you not have put more stripper on to make it easier to remove?
Yes I did eventually do that! Lol

Do you test for lead paint before you begin stripping?
