I really like how you keep the footage of your mistakes and exhaustion. It keeps it real, and we can all relate. I've enjoyed this series. Thank you for sharing!
You're brilliant! You captured our attention with your first nightstand video and left us wanting to see more. I subscribed after seeing the first one, as I wanted to see more. I could care less about refurbishing furniture, but your videos are AWESOME!!!
Way to power through. SUCH an interesting idea for a set of videos. I have watched at least 1,000 furniture videos over the past 3 years when I started flipping furniture and it is rare to come across something that I have not already seen done a dozen times. You are a young STAR!!
Hi Abby, I think the assembly line concept takes what should be an exciting, creative venture and turns the whole thing into a .... job. That's no fun! The nightstands look beautiful and I'm at the edge of my seat waiting for the final numbers!
The "faux wood" finish that is popular today is straight from the 1970s. Our mothers were doing it to furniture, plaques, frames, anything wood. The base could be any color. They called it "antiquing".
Yeah. I remember doing this back then too. It looked like crap then and frankly not much better today. If I want wood finish, I want WOOD. So for these I much prefer the painted look of the black and white ones. It’ll be interesting to see what works in the marketplace today. Edited to add: with all the extra work those faux finishes took, I gotta think it ain’t worth it.
Hey. I discovered this series and was shocked at how entertaining I found furniture restoration. Now I've been inspired to paint my kitchen cabinets. Looking forward to the last video.
Beautiful. Wanted to say that figuring out that energy/ motivation feeling you reported is really they key to everything in life. The only thing that helps me maintain it is healthy food, light but regular exercise, and plenty of sleep. There is no magic potion for organic machines, sadly.
What I love mist about you and your channel is the honesty. It’s refreshing for us who are just dipping our toes in to furniture makeovers. I just respect and appreciate how real you are. Thank you!!! Looking forward to more! 😊
Finding a balance of work that leaves you less exhausted is one of the big challenges of being a creative craftsman. I hope that you find things that work for you. Is it possible that having 18 of something might work more easily if you did all of the prep and, if the fire is still hot, finish the first three. Then take on an entirely different project for a week or so. Then, with the prep work already done so it is pure joy, finish set two. Lay aside the last three while doing an alternative project before you jump in for the last three. Your contact with product time would be the same, or less as you won't be hating your life, so efficiency is served. (Most potters I know who make a living at it have an originals line and a wholesale line. Alternating working on the two lines keeps them fresh. Pottery is my only world of reference.)
I can so relate to the getting sloppy when tired. I agree, we have to be honest with ourselves and stop. A professional furniture restorer said “the quickest way to finish a job is to take your time”. Double handling and having to redo processes is false economy 😊
I think that the way that you paired different colored hardware so well with the three different shades of faux wood is so beautiful! I really love how the sets turned out and I’m really impressed with this entire series. Such an amazing outcome!!
I think the random spinner was fun but you could have chosen which finishes went with each pair (to make them more sellable) and it would have still been cool to see 🙂
Abby, I have watched all 3 videos of your night stand remake and all are beautiful. If I have to pick a color choice, I would say black. They look the most elegant and I like the distressing you did. Take a nice long break now and think twice before doing another furniture refinishing marathon. That was a big job even for someone your age. Beautiful work.😊
Well done Abby. x I feel for you being rundown and tired. Motivation is hard to come by when you work for yourself. I'm feeling the pressure at the moment too and I just have to try an push through. It's not easy. Take care of yourself.
I saw a couple doing their counter and they used a chip brush. They did it in sections and they even added knots in the wood. They wiped a thin layer of a 2nd stain over it after the brushed on lines dried and it looked so real! The ones you did look great! I really like the 2nd set. It does have that Pottery Barn Vibe.
Abby, You did a wonderful job! I enjoyed watching all of the videos and I can't wait to see the final one. Give yourself some grace. The night stands are beautiful. Thank you for providing so much information. 😊
Excellent work! Such a massive project you created! No wonder you became exhausted! Will check out last pricing/ selling video! Thanks so much for taking this all on! I learned so much from you!
For me, I liked all the white ones and the best and I was thinking about why do I like the white ones I mean all the other ones are really pretty I did not want the color of all the other ones but they’re all gorgeous so I had to sit down and think why do I like the white ones and the reason is I have a very small house. I don’t have a large house so if I put too much dark furniture in my home, it will become darker so anything that’s bright and light is what I need in my house and now by watching you do this. I really got an understanding of why I like the white ones and I want to thank you for that because now I understand if I had a bigger house, then I would like the the darker ones because you would have more light coming through in the dark woodenabsorb that area so very interesting. I think you did a great great job on every piece that you did. What an incredible woman you are.
The whites and blacks were amazing. Less impressed with faux wood, but that is me and not the market. Wish you all the best in selling these. Great work!
Love this series so much. I've been working on 4 pieces (no comparison for your amazing feat) but notice how tiring it is to move things around constantly, and continuously clean a limited size workplace. Plus, you are filming and commenting which is another task on top of everything else. If you had a tv show, you would have a "crew" to help with all of that. No wonder your motivation was lagging at times. A quote someone shared with me..."sometimes it's better to be done, than to be perfect."
I hope after all this hard work you took a nice break. You’re a machine to challenge yourself like this. These pieces still look awesome. I can’t wait to hear what kind of profit you got. Way to go and thanks for posting.
Abby, Black Sheep House, on RUclips does an amazing job of doing the faux wood look. She doesn't use Retick It, so I'm sure it's a lot less expensive to do also. Your work is awesome so don't get discouraged! 😊
Love the series. Perhaps, when you are doing more detailed work, such as, faux wood painting...maybe it's best to do that first on your big projects since you are more energized. Awesome work!!
The faux wood finishes are my least favorite of all the ones you did, which surprises me because I am not someone who usually likes painted wood furniture. And I can't quite wrap my head around the idea of giving wood furniture a faux wood finish when one could simply sand and stain to show off the real thing. But this is an interesting exercise you set out for yourself and I look forward to the final recap video!
I thought that, too, but one consideration is that on some of those pieces, the sides were laminated particle board, so there would not have been wood to sand and redo. Also, a lot of those pieces that are given a really dark stain have inconsistent woods throughout once stripped.
@@PaullyMiller Yeah, I get that, too. But still, if I were refinishing something like that, a faux wood finish would not be among my choices. Even though painted wood doesn't always appeal to me, sometimes it does. I would rather see a beat-up laminated piece painted in a solid color than a faux wood look. The only places I see furniture with faux wood finishes are thrift stores and they're usually quite poorly executed. Trying to replicate woodgrain seems like an exercise in futility to me, since they never look believably realistic - so it's pointless. But it's still interesting to watch someone try.
I rarely leave a comment, but this series deserves a major 👍 for serious talent and outcome! Please do another. Maybe not 18 nightstands next time though? 😂 Can you do a quick follow up to tell how successful your assembly line idea worked out financially?

That is what success looks like. If you want to achieve your goals you have to be willing to work for it. You go girl!
Great work!! Get yourself a bigger workshop maybe a small building in that backyard or something because I believe with more space you’d stress less and have more energy throughout. You did a great job 👏 bravo
Great job! Great series! Love your channel - everyday I look to see if the next episode is published. I can’t wait to hear about how and where you market your pieces and the and the profit breakdown - you’re an inspiration to the flippers out here 😊
The white nightstand video popped up in my feed and loved it so I came to the channel to watch the rest! I love what you’re doing with all these nightstands!! And would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see more videos like these! just subscribed!
I just have to say that I've done a very effective faux wood finish similar to the retique just by using paint and then wood stain with a drybrush technique. I'm sure there are advantages to the retique, but it's just another option.
Thanks for sharing! I totally agree! I do think retique has a longer work time and nicely curated colors. Could potentially have it matched and add some sort of extender to paint if you want to experiment!
I've enjoyed watching this limited series so far. I'm about halfway through this video with the faux wood finish. From the beginning, and still now, I'm honestly not understanding why one would use a faux wood finish on actual wood pieces. I just don't get it. Maybe towards the end of the video you'll explain? And, that being said, I definitely like the look of the white and the black way better than this faux wood finish so far. I can't wait to hear which ends up selling best in the end
$325 for the last couple sets? I think you could have easily gotten $400-$500 for those sets. I know we are our own worst critics, but you worked so hard on those sets (regardless of whether or not you were tired) & deserve to be paid for your time. I honestly think you could charge more for all of them & I’m saying that as a consumer. I would easily expect to pay $500 for a set of nightstands. Anyway, great series! I can’t wait to hear the profit breakdown in the next video! 😊
On one of them I would have liked to see the bleached wood, or a antique black . Fun to watch! Question. Should you not remove drawers before you prime?? Beginner here
A concrete broom might work well for brushing the grain on the wide sections. You can get a 24” for $15 at home depot. Everyone gets sloppy when tired, don’t sweat it worst case scenario it doesn’t sell and you can do over in a black or white
@@flippedbyabby it’s not thick, but wider. it’s used in concrete for finishing, creates lines in the concrete so it’s not slick to walk on. I haven’t tried it for this application but one pass with a wide brush should save you time over making a lot of passes with the narrow brush. probably more beneficial when you’re dealing with warmer weather and the finish drying quickly.
You did a great job powering through. It is not easy to do that much work. I don't think I could handle it but I love that you pushed yourself and didn't quit. I also think you are so very talented at making unmatched nightstands match. I could never do that. You mentioned warehouse to buy nightstands. Where is this? What kind of warehouse? Also, are there no matching nightstands at the warehouse? I think it would have saved you work.
Awesome content. I would say that the painted finishes are best for the assembly line model and just save the faux wood for one off projects. It seemed more time consuming as well as costlier in terms of supplies.
You have beautiful stock availability ,in the US.U are really spoilt for choice.Others don't get ,half the variety or even prices that one can buy the before used pieces of furniture.U have so much ,in good quality pieces to work with.
I liked the withe ones very very much! After seeing the finished black ones, I liked them too!! But the faux wood is really not my style. Maybe it's because I'm from Germany. My parents had those ugly faux wood furniture my entire childhood and now I can't look at it anymore. You did a great job with the set up of the assembly line in this little space! And I'm looking forward to the selling part !!
My collie would never nap if I was talking to a camera. She would be all up in my face trying to figure out what I was saying to her. Maybe sometime in the future you can revisit this idea. Give yourself permission to spend all the time that it takes, Then compare those results with this experiment. I've really enjoyed watching the series and am looking forward to the grand finale.
I really like how you keep the footage of your mistakes and exhaustion. It keeps it real, and we can all relate. I've enjoyed this series. Thank you for sharing!

So sei de uma coisa, sua iniciativa seu trabalho, tudo muito bom, vou copiar.
My guess is the black ones will sell best. I look forward to the stats.
They are all lovely
Great job! So fun to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
Well done‼️ Congratulations 🎈
I love your work! Thank you.
Your work is very impressive!
Thank you very much!
Awesome content. I would say that the painted finishes are best for the assembly line model and just save the faux wood for one off projects. It seemed more time consuming as well as costlier in terms of supplies.
100% agree with this… and it will show in the time and profit breakdown 😳
You have beautiful stock availability ,in the US.U are really spoilt for choice.Others don't get ,half the variety or even prices that one can buy the before used pieces of furniture.U have so much ,in good quality pieces to work with.
All hail the wheel! Randomness: the source code of life 🗣️
Exactly 😂 so fun!
I think the black were the best and sold the fastest... but I'll be here for the next video to find out
I liked the withe ones very very much!
Good job on hard work!
Love this series! Would u do this again OR smaller batches?
Smaller batches for sure!
