Well I am a pink floyd fan since I was born and this is great !!! its awesome !! They did it with their feel. People who say it shouldnt be done have to realize this is a tribute !! a way of saying thank you and keeping it alive
1st of all I'm a huge Floyd fan! My favourite 3 albums r Piper At The Gates Of The Dawn, Obscured By Clouds, Meddle.. Now that's my "Credentials" to have an opinion. I can appreciate this as a cover I think it's pretty well done to be fair, I wont buy it which is why I'm listening to it on youtube. I agree it's league with The Residents but what is? I love Flaming Lips Its gr8 that they still experiment, the live shows are unbelievable! as 4 fame? dont need it they r infamous!

A bunch of cool bands getting together to have fun remaking a group of songs they enjoyed growing up too. Let them have their fun. Its not like this album is going to replace the orginal & Pink Floyd will be forgotten forever... When I was younger I wanted to do a punk rock version of serval of Brenda Lee's songs...How fucking cool would that have been. :D
Does anybody else get the feeling that Wayne is looking this as his requiem tribute to Syd Barrett and how he would interpret this album, being the only real post-syd album that he would realistically have any part of from an artistic standpoint??? I mean, really, all of the other post-syd albums are mostly Roger Waters anti-capitalist ravings....they're good, but it it's true. I don't know, it's just my opinion, I guess.
I'd much rather hear this deconstructed version of DSOTM over a note for note remake. I mean, what would be the point? If you want to hear note for note, just listen to the original. This is a fun little album meant to pay homage to the original, not to replace it.

Hanging on in quiet desperation-- ah... :) Not that big of a fan of this cover album (too much "weird" and not enough "nice" for me -- it doesn't give me that warm feeling I get when listening to the original), but I really like their version of Time/Breath (Reprise).

You might call this 'music", and, granted: It qualifies, at least technically. However, it is BAD music---just as obnoxious as any noise committed to vinyl/tape/disc/hard-drive. This is not anywhere near in the same class as The Residents, or Henry Cow; this is noise for the sake of noise. You don't have to "get them" to know the difference.
You obviously have no idea when it comes to music, and even when it comes to The Flaming Lips. First off, learn to form a coherent sentence. Second, the term is 15 minutes of fame. Third, The Flaming Lips are artists, and gave this album a try with their style (of course featuring whoever). When a band covers a song, it's to redo the song in their own way; not to cover the song to the exact note that it was orignally played. I love the lips cover, and I love the original. Open your mind a bit.
flaming lips is NOT Pink Floyd, I'm not saying that they cant do a cover of dark side, just that their music sounds nothing like the original, I'm a Pink Floyd fan, pure and simple, but when i see an awful cover of "Time" i gotta say something: the vocals were completely off and the instrumentals sounded like s***!! This sounded like a disgusting new-age techno remix of the original, but worse. Nothing, NOTHING can replace the original album from 1973

I think the emotion really comes across in this version of the song. It really feels genuine.
I wasn't sure if I was digging it, then it dropped into Breathe and my mind exploded.
I saw them last night in Oklahoma City and it absolutely jaw dropping done live.
