This is the best posted version of this wonderful song by this magical band...yes, the Letterman performance is great, but you really need the beautiful madness of the concert performance to fully capture their spirit, and you'd be hard-pressed to find more smiling faces at a show by anyone else...

I saw them live in August 09... and it was the greatest concert I've ever been too. Hands down. My friends and I got selected to go backstage and dress up in Yeti costumes and dance onstage with the band. I danced with Wayne. Then we hung out with him for an hour backstage afterwards. The greatest thing ever.

This song is about being thankful for every moment you get to share with the ones that you love. It is a song to remind us to cherish the ones that we love, both the ones that have gone, and also those that remain with a positive, peaceful, beautiful love. The song was written after loosing a loved one. A way to reconnect with and honor a love that is sacred to them.

I've never realized how much this and "mind games" sound alike, I'm not trying to detract Lennon, but this flaming lips song is one of the most beautiful "hymns for the girl you like" out there :D and live is still better! with all those colors out there! I totally love the FL!!!

I had a dream the other night that Wayne died, and when I woke up, I cried harder than I ever have. I've lost friends, and family members, but nobody could change lives the way he does. I hope he never dies. He'll probably just go missing some day.

I agree with Petertheimpaler (love the name). Seeing this song in a live setting with a crowd of people joyously dancing and singing along while confetti flies is the only way to truly understand it. In a way, those beautiful moments are what this song is all about. I feel so lucky to have been able to get the full flaming lips experience a good number of times. Seeing them live is nothing short of a celebration of life

But other than that The Flaming Lips play all their music on the Studio Albums, bringing it live has allways been a different story, but with the addition of Kliph Scurlock as part of the Band as allowed Stephen to play guitar and synth live, and have live drums. they are allways creating the music with various technology, i think its great noone else does that, acoustic and electric, digital and analog equipment. and they never sample other peoples work.

its not like he's incapable of playing guitar. he plays it on some of the newer tracks on embryonic. The lips used to use VCR tapes as a click track along to their images on the screen, they used sequencers in the Soft Bulletin era. I think they have recently gone more digital recently though. Embryonic was recorded with one mic jams, stetched out and the eq fiddled on pro tools, and the Fridmann gave it a bit more boost in the studio. thats why its sounds like it does

@ThePoorhillbilly Chord variations are EVERYTHING. That's how you write songs. I imagine he wrote this song on guitar originally, and what he's triggering are the strings or the orchestration involved in the original recording. Personally, to me, that's all foo-foo. I think perhaps I am a bit of a purist, and that's all fine and dandy. I'd rather not hear the foo foo at the expense him playing the guitar live. examples are Hendrix Sonic Youth for live sound w/out foo foo. Still Love FLPS
