It's true that Wayne is not the best singer, but he sings with so much heart, he makes up for it. I saw these guys last night in Portland. Wow! I brought a date who had never listened to them and she was SCREAMING half the show, she was so excited.
I love Wayne Coyne’s fragile voice. He sings with such emotion and vulnerability...he’s one of my favourite singers even though he can’t really sing. I just wanna give him a cuddle :)
My favourite Elvis song (well tied with In the Ghetto) gets a truly original cover, seeing them on that Dermot O'Leary show was actually what got me into the Flaming Lips who at least are original in their intrepretations (see Kylie's Can't get you out of my head). Thanks trying to track this down for ages
Elvis is great and I love the original, but the Lips just capture the emotion of the song so much better. Some people complain about Wayne's voice, but I think it's great, when he sings higher notes his voice cracks sometimes but, when he's singing low like this its fucking perfect. Long live the king, long live the Lips.
Big Elvis fan here, and I like this here. I like how they took this great song, and changed the arrangement to fit their style. Been searching throught youtube for find the best Elvis covers, and this certainly is one of them.
Good points. To me, the albums are classic, and I think most music lovers would agree on the Soft Bulletin being one. I hear you, though. I own a 1971 El Camino. I love it, but some people think it's the ugliest car in the world. I do think the Lips could have done this song a hell of a lot better. But at the same time, I wouldn't say Wayne's voice has ever been stellar. It's about the whole performance, which is lacking on this one.
You know people complain too much,if they're version was too much like Elvis,then people would say why bother to cover it,and if its too different ,then they say that it ruins the original .Well you can still listen to original song,its not like you cant.I really dont see how a different cover ruins anything.

Oh no. I was well pleased to find this. I love the band. I love 'Suspicious Minds'. But this is really dull. The best bit is the outro, and that is a cheap own-brand version of Galaxie 500. Well disappoints! Agh feel like killing myself.
I kept waiting for them to pick up the pace and go into full-on psych freak out mode and was kinda let down that they didn't... the potential was certainly there... just feels like missed opportunity.
