      Same thing with Dodge. You need to set the gear by pressing the button on the shifter. The gear will appear on your console and it will trick the engine into thinking you are hauling and disable cylinder deactivation. If you have 6 gears you need to select up until you see 6 so the computer can upshift and downshift all gears. Otherwise it won't upshift past the number selected. I typically wait until I get into the last gear then press the set button.

    I've had MANY different vehicles in my 61 years on this planet, and my 2016 F-150 King Ranch 4WD, 5.0 V-8, is the absolute BEST vehicle I've ever owned!
    I've had Camaros, Mazda 4wd, Olds Cutlass, 66' Fairlane 500, 2000 F-150, Scout II, Chevy Silverado, Ford Flex, 98' Expedition, 2013 Expedition, 2014 Cadillac CTS4, ... and more that I haven't mentioned.

    I have a 2015 XLT 4x4 SuperCrew with the 5.0 and I absolutely love it !! My truck is very similar as far as equipment goes , I also have the 302A package and love all the features that it includes . I opted for the center console and am glad I did , love the extra storage it provides and also the fact that they're are two vents for rear passengers at the back of the console as well as power outlets for phones tablets ect . I have the Magnetic Metallic paint job and I love it . I've had mine since September 30 '15 and have a little over 6K miles on it and no problems what so ever thus far . Handles great , rides great , awesome power - when you step on this baby she will absolutely fly . Glad I went with the SuperCrew over SuperCab, had a SuperCab before and liked it but I like this more . I had a spray on bedliner installed by Line X and they did a great job I love it . I also bought a tri fold tonneau cover , a Extang Solid Fold 2.0 and I really like it as well . The only thing that I am disappointed with is the stereo, I wish it had more ass behind it . It's something I will probably look into upgrading , a subwoofer and amp , maybe higher quality speakers in the doors as well . Great video , nice truck and hope you continue to have good luck with it !!

      SAME! Mt 16' Taco has had the following issues: trans slamming into gear from R to D, they reprogrammed it only to now cause it to slip while shifting 1-3. The brakes on the back literally froze up with fluid and all ok in traffic a few times. Front brakes are having some bad brake hop issues as well. The thing ran like a total TURD for a month. I had to cause a scene in the middle of the dealership to get them to check the oil level. They said look sir, the computer says its fine. I said take the plug off and LOOK. Sure enough was 2-3 quarts low. This is coming after me buying a 15' brand new which the head was cast wrong and it was just shit. Tacomas aren't what they were.

    Thanks for posting this video! I am planning on trading in my 2009 Toyota Tacoma next week for a new 2016 F-150 with the Fx4 package. Taking the weekend to really think about it. I am in the market for a basic 4WD truck that would give me the long service life that a Tacoma offers. Ford has some irresistible end year incentives going on. Base XL trim and a 5.0V8 was a must. The salesman was trying to put me in higher trim Ecoboosts but I was not interested. I will take simplicity over expensive and unreliable tech any day.

    I sold my 2010 super cab for a 2015 crew cab XLT sport and the extra room makes a big difference. My kids are almost out of smacking range LOL jk. All joking aside it was worth the extra money I think. There's more room on the floor in the back as well for additional hauling if no one is using rear seats.

    nice video I'm going to be getting an f150 here within the next few months. I'm also leaning towards the 5.0 V8 over the ecoboost. I don't want the headaches of dealing with a turbo engine. I did a build & price on the XLT trim and I'm pretty sure that's available in the sport appearance package.

  • @OldbayRaven

    Nice review, I needed two trucks for my company (tax write off reasons). We have always had a Ram Cummins diesel and a new gas Ram. Picked up two of the 15's on sale one decked out xlt 2.7 eco and 1 base xl 5.0 with sport package, 4x4, and tuxedo black (all super cabs). Regardless of me being the owner one of guys fell in love with the 2.7 xlt and claimed it (jacked it) without giving me a chance. Not that big of a deal because I had a new Ram with all the bells and whistles so I took the spartan what I thought was a pos 5.0 v8 I knew nothing about. Long story short I am averaging the exact same gas mileage 19mpg highway/city mixed as the 2.7 ecoboost. He runs premium for the turbos I run regular unleaded so I pay about 20% less on fuel. We are high up in the mountains of CO so I have driven in non stop serious snow and ice and its handled flawlessly.. On a highway trip the other day I averaged 23 mpg but mind you I have the lighter supercab and mine is geared for highway driving. The V8 always puts a smile on my face and I am glad I have the spartan truck simply because of the V8 now. Taking her for the first 1500 mile oil change tomorrow and switching it to mobile 1 full synthetic 5w 20. Oh and before I forget I sold the Dodges because this thing can tow almost 10k lbs which is more than we pickup. Walked out of the Subaru dealer with a new free and clear 2016 WRX because this base xl ford was all the truck I needed so the loaded gas Dodge went the way of the diesel and sold. Only complaint I have is Fords service center is a joke compared to Dodge and Ford never had the guts Dodge had in 2015 with the 100k mile power train warranty and Mopar sold me a unlimited time and mileage lifetime warranty for 2300. Ford wouldn't sell me anything close to what Mopar offers so lets hope these trucks are tough

      +Andrew Smith Thanks for your comment, I'm glad you like the truck! I love the 2.7 Eco and 3.5L Eco but there is just something about that V8 that both Eco's do can't produce combined :) Nice that you ended up getting two new trucks and a new WRX ! You should start a channel lol ;)

      +jldude84 I would stay far away from a 2.7 in a 1/2 ton. Ford may be pushing the idea that its great but i'm very skeptical. Lack of displacement for hauling heavy loads makes me question the longevity of these motors.

    • @gregoryfaulkner5345
      @gregoryfaulkner5345 8 лет назад

      +jldude84 I'm very skeptical of those posted mpg claims. They pretty much match exactly what It's possible for me to achieve measuring from fill up to fill up on calm, warm days in my 4200 pound standard cab, with 3.31 regular rear axle, and 2.7EB. However, my trip meter would likely indicate 1.5 mpg higher, and if I'm just cruising down the road and at a point and time, glance down at the trip meter, I could see a number even higher, but that is in no way a measure of fuel economy, but is what I suspect when I see someone claiming 5 mpg over the EPA estimate.

    • @gregoryfaulkner5345
      @gregoryfaulkner5345 8 лет назад +1

      +FloppyBit The folks locked in to this idea that the V8 is some kind of magic engine refuse to learn the concepts of other technologies. The EBs are smaller displacement, but get boost from twin turbos. There is nothing wrong with having skepticism regarding the turbos themselves or worrying about a new engine versus an older, proven engine, such as the Coyote, but folks stating these EBs will wear out sooner due to higher revving or more compression do not understand the technology. The EBs perform nothing like base, naturally-aspired V6s that have traditionally been planted in full-size trucks. Ford's base V6 has peak torque coming way up over 4000 RPM, and it's something like 265. That's the kind of engine that will work harder to do heavy, truck- like work. Conversely, the 2.7 EB V6 achieves 375 at 3000 RPM, and the 3.5 achieves 420 at 2500. The Coyote V8 produces 387 at 3850. Moreover, the two EBs run at a lower compression ratio than either of Ford's NA engines. There is nothing in the character of either of these EBs that indicate they'd be over worked more than your beloved V8.

    • @gregoryfaulkner5345
      @gregoryfaulkner5345 8 лет назад

      That's certainly more believable and amazing mpg for a full-size truck with a very capable V8. Ford has done well with this truck and all the engines, save the base V6. The difference between 23 and 25 is huge. It took truck makers 25 years to get 2 more mpg. At those figures, that's 8.6% . It's possible to squeeze out a couple more with the 2.7 EB, but only in the smaller, lighter versions and conservative driving, and so I'm thinking the 5.0 and 3.5 EB are better suited to the bigger trucks, 4WD, etc., as that smaller EB mpg diminishes up the line.

    • @gregoryfaulkner5345
      @gregoryfaulkner5345 8 лет назад

      Mine averages 1.7 less than the computer, but the error is not consistent. The error is in the "gallons used" data. It's way under represented. Up to 1.6 gallons shy of actual fill up.

    You willl see a big improvement in road grip and responsiveness if you upgrade those GY Wranglers. I went with a Falken tire that is actually more aggressive off road but grips better on road. The tire scrub in turns went away.

      +SteelCity1981 Well, yes, if money is know object. The Ram ED starts at least $10K more than I can purchase a base-model Ram. The Colorado/Canyon--even worse. Starts at least $12K more than base, and its a 4 cylinder with cast-iron block and solenoid injectors. My guess is that if Ford does bring the Lion to the F150, aluminum body, more expensive transmission, engine more costly than even the ED that Ram sources VM (FCA is part owner of Italian engine maker), it will be extremely limited: to the Screw, and the highest trim levels; $42K minimum, as Ford will not likely be willing to lose margin on a dog idea.Diesel trucks in the light duty sector are absolutely valid, but only if and when they become more cost competitive with spark ignition at which point the manufacturers can match the right engines to the right configurations. Right now, we're getting what should be base diesel engines planted in only in the versions that need the most performance, and that's because a diesel worthy for heavy towing and hauling would cost even more to build and certify, and due to current emissions strategies limited by current technologies, would not significantly improve mpg employing V8s or larger sixes in half tons and below. And putting smaller sixes and fours in cheaper trims and configuration would cause too much sticker shock for the customer. So right now, its only about having the mpg crown and to pick up some extra margin from those who refuse spark plugs on their truck.

    • @RhinoXpress
      @RhinoXpress 8 лет назад

      ***** yeah and it will also last 500,000 miles. as for maintence the cost is cheaper and less frequent than gas is . i own a 2003 f250 diesel with 300,000 miles on it and it still runs great and i havent hardy had to do any engine maintence on it so idont know what you are talking about

    • @gregoryfaulkner5345
      @gregoryfaulkner5345 8 лет назад +1

      +Steven Simpkins I'm not sure such a determination can be made simply on the basis of ignition type. While there are examples of 500K diesel engines in the past, particularly in the semi tractor industry from Cummins and Detroit before all this pollution reduction stuff had to go into high gear, in the light duty sector, where diesels must be much less costly to build, much lighter and many more horses per liter output, there have been some very good products and some not so good products; some can outlast an average spark ignition engine and some not. Look to Europe where diesels hold almost 50% market share. It depends on the design and quality control.As for oil changes, fuel costs, repair, there are alot of factors. If a diesel takes off-the-shelf oil like Rotella, and has extended changes around 15K like some do, and fuel prices stay right around the price of regular unleaded, then the equation works if one chooses an engine based on value or payback.It also depends on what trim level and configuration. As one goes up the price point, the diesel gets more affordable by comparison, because there is more and more margin to play with. But if one is in the market for a $30K truck, but only with a diesel and is expecting to pay an extra $4-$5K, that truck is not going to be available.The only segment where this small premium for a diesel can be found in a near base truck is in the commercial van segment. One can get a Transit with an I5 powerstroke or a ProRam ED for an extra $5K, but that means going from a $35K to a $40K van, and the only way to make a truck out of that is to order a cab chassis and then have a body built and installed. Those options will start you at $45K in a very basic vehicle.

    Nice. Our neighbor just got a leftover 2015 XLT (302a) 4x4 crew cab/5.5 bed with a 3.5 Ecoboost in the Caribou brown color. Actually is a sharp color. Got a smokin deal being a leftover model. Threw a check engine light 2 miles off the lot, truck had 18 total miles on it....lol. Took it back in and they reset it, been fine ever since. They figure it was just from being moved around the lot for however long it was there and never really getting any driving besides a bunch of start ups and shut downs around the dealership.
    I agree with you. Although the XLTs are nice if I were in the market for a new F150 I'd have to think about upgrading to the Lariat if I could swing the cost. Has a few gadgets like the auto 4x4 you mentioned that I'd be interested in.
    One thing you might be able to answer. I notice that Ford offers a spray in bedliner as an option. Do that outsource that to Line-x or Rhino or is it their own?

    • @AutoVlogOfficial
      @AutoVlogOfficial  8 лет назад

      +klc317 Nice for them! I like that Caribou color as well :)
      When we have spray in liners done for customers (if the truck don't already have it) we outsource it and have a Rhino liner put in, there have been times where the truck has it already and I guess it's been Ford themselves putting it in then.

    • @unnervingfalcon

      +klc317 I have the "spray in" bedliner. They shouldn't call it that. Each panel is sprayed separately then assembled. The bottom edge as well as around the wheel well is opened to the elements. I purchased flex black caulking and fixed it.

    If you are looking for longevity and reliability, go for a NA engine like the 5.0L V8, I own a Turbo charged vehicle and they are great when new, but when you get up in miles the extra stress on the engine shows, as well as higher maintenance with turbo system and the mileage on mine sucks. My sister in law has a 2002 Ford Escape AWD 3.0L V6 with 360,000 miles on it, and it's only needed a new fuel pump and is still running good.

    • @gregoryfaulkner5345
      @gregoryfaulkner5345 8 лет назад

      +ron mortensen Show me where the extra stress shows up. It's not in revolutions, as a DI, turbo will likely turn slower at any given output as NA. It's not in compression, as most are in the 10:1 range just like NAs. They do force more air (and in the case of spark ignition) more fuel through the delivery system, and they do have the turbo component that can go bad of it's a bad design or is abused, but my VW TDI ran like new at 165K and see no reason why it would not top 300K.There are good and bad examples of every engine type, but in general, as far as engine wear specifically endemic to the technology as a whole, there is nothing about DI, turbo charging that makes them wear faster.

    • @R777-RLM
      @R777-RLM 8 лет назад

      +Gregory Faulkner The compression ratio, is basically the volumetric difference of the cylinder from the piston at the bottom of the stroke to the top. The turbo forces in more dense air, which results in a more powerful power stroke, which is where the extra stress comes from, that also creates more heat than a NA engine. A good design has a lot to do with durability, but overall most people agree that a NA engine will out last a FI engine. Read about Static and Dynamic compression ratios.

    • @gregoryfaulkner5345
      @gregoryfaulkner5345 8 лет назад

      +ron mortensen Wikipedia confirms your definition but your missing something, because over at Ford's engine specs page, the two EBs are rated at 10.0:1, while the base V6 is rated at 10.8:1, and the Coyote is rated at 10.4:1, right opposite of the basis of your argument. Secondly, the peak torque and the RPM at which peak torque is achieved favors the EBs for long engine life, since they'll likely turn fewer revolutions over time than the NAs despite the smaller displacement. When each of the engines are called on for all available torque, the larger EB needs 2500 RPM, the 2.7 needs 3000, the 5.0 NA needs 3850, and the base V6 will sound like it's getting ready to melt down at 4250.Thirdly, even if it were true that the compression ratios were higher on these particular EBs versus these NAs, some of the most durable engines ever produced had as high as 22:1 compression ratios, and even today's modern diesels have over 16:1, yet short engine life is not a normal complaint from diesel owners.

    • @R777-RLM
      @R777-RLM 8 лет назад

      +Gregory Faulkner It still depends if they are built for the extra boost, like a diesel, but diesels run at lower RPM's, and diesel fuel lubricates much better. The turbo's run hot, which is why they have lower compression ratio's, to avoid requiring high octane fuel. The NA's can run at higher compression ratio's without pre detonation, and yes their power comes on at higher RPM's, but at speed that much power isn't needed. But hey, I hope these new turbo engines last forever like you do, but I do think auto makers should keep a larger NA engine or two as options for people who want them.

    • @gregoryfaulkner5345
      @gregoryfaulkner5345 8 лет назад

      I concede that the turbos themselves are a worry and a concern and only time will tell. If the design ends up being lacking in any way as part of the whole package, just like any modern engine, longevity will suffer and it'll be costly for the consumer. My point is just that we should not assume that any major technology applied to an ICE is inferior to tried and true technologies just because it is not as common and there should not be this ongoing assumption that a small-block V8 is the best that will ever come along. And we should keep in mind that, the manufacturers are likewise trying to get more with less out of these NAs as well and using other different strategies with them as well to keep power and improve mpg, as GM has learned with cylinder deactivation and the headaches that has caused some buyers with their NA V8s.

    If 6,5ft of bed is too much for you and the supercab is too small to carry people around why don't you buy a Dodge Caravan ? It's just funny how people will spend almost $40k on a 4x4 XLT or even more on a Lariat, Platinum or King Ranch just to drive around with empty beds and no trailers at 17mpg. If you really NEED a truck, a basic XL will do just fine. And no you don't need 4x4 to drive on the highway (or even in the city for that matter) in snow, most people get by just fine with a Honda Civic.

    Just an FYI on what is in my opinion the BIGGEST change from 15 to 16... Ford added reinforcement to this exact model (extended cab) in 2016. For some reason they put the reinforcement into all other body configurations except the extended cab for 2015. Long story longer this exact model received bad crash test ratings because of this.

    Another outstanding video and probably the most important for me seeing the 150 is my next vehicle. So a couple of questions I hope you can help me with to make a decision. My mind is set on the limited model. However I see the raptor is coming out end of year. Is the raptor a WAY too aggressive model for everyday driving? I'm not taking it off road at all but I love the mean look to it. Additionally I really like the idea of the 10 speed transmission. I can wait for the 2017 raptor but if I do and it's too aggressive do I also wait on the limited until it packs the 10 speed transmission. Thanks in advance.

      +Bruno TaTa We have utilized the bed many times but not for heavy duty stuff that really scratches up the bed badly, mainly it was wifey who was dead set on having a truck so we got it, she didn't want an SUV. For instance this past weekend we got to really use the bed of the truck when we first got a new bed and then also loaded it up with a LOT of stuff for our garden. It's true, we don't use the bed of the truck that often - but for those few times we REALLY need it is why she wanted a truck.

      Yeah, I have a '12 FX4 I used in my business till this year. Solid reliable, never been to the shop once, and it's great to have the truck bed. But it just drives so big compared to a sedan, I'm thinking of something that handles and brakes better while still given some utility.. I meant Explorer sport, btw. The Edge sport in black is probably just what we need (no kids, 4 dogs) but they're mid $40's even with discounts, and that's getting close to Luxury brand price. I actually prefer the prev gen styling on the Edge, too.

    I've only had the truck for a few weeks but have found something odd about it and had dealer examine it. When I shut off the truck or just come back and open a door the sound system is activated. Now I don't mean the radio is on but it is activated. You can hear the sub slightly on with a small amount of what sounds like voices. After about 4 minutes the sub goes boom and then everything shuts off till the door opens and it starts all over again. The dealer found it odd as well and sent a question into Ford. There has been no response/fix yet.

      Less to break with a naturally aspirating V8 Coyote platform. Twin turbo 2.7 & 3.5 requires Super Unleaded to achieve advertised MPG. All turbos with any real acceleration naturally zap fuel. So between typically getting lower than adverstised MPG and the extra premium for the fuel PLUS long term additional repair costs if you are to own the vehicle to 150k....V8 absolutely makes a ton of sense.

      Mike always does great reviews, just bought a 2017 XL STX 2.7 4WD Crew, love the truck, compared to ole Tacoma, comfort, plenty of power and great economy! Little worried about the turbos long term durability, but hopefully Ford knows best. Can't say I like the look better than the RAM, but compared to the HEMI economy is much much better. Mikes reviews helped me make my mind up, keep them reviews coming Mike!

    Thanks for the video. So this is a 4x4 correct? So I guess 17MPG is on the highway? Thanks.

      Yes it's 4X4, we get better then 17mpg on highway.

      AutoVlog I get about 18MPG on my 2003 Trailblazer (it's also a 4x4). I would have thought that 4x4 vehicles would have been little bit more fuel efficient in 2015-16.

    women messing around and messing up the electronics lol. she thought 80mph was plenty even though the truck only does like 105mph max speed. you need that extra speed in case of emergency and the radio set at half? um why? radio in the F150 isn't that loud to begin with, obviously cause dude bitched the stereo could only go half way up. On my high power stereo system in my car, half way would be ear drum ringing loud. nobody messes with my car or my setting , but me. It's my car hands off BIATCH lol

    I borrowed a friends 2012 f150 a few weeks back and i could feel the truck twisting and wobbling over every bump and well as the side of the cab shaking when closing the doors. Do the new fords still feel like that?

      I don't get why people buy crew cabs with two foot beds. Reminds me of lesbians driving around in Subaru Bajas. Why not just admit you don't need a truck and get a sissy ass SUV?

    • @moohuhahaaa
      @moohuhahaaa 7 лет назад +1

      Hmm I dunno.. maybe because they have a family to carry around and there's more room in a supercrew? How silly that you assume a 1 foot shorter bed means you don't need a truck. Newsflash: most people driving trucks don't NEED a truck. 90% of people driving 4x4's don't need those either. This is America and here people buy what they want - not what they need. Get over it.

    • @ShwaZmoto
      @ShwaZmoto 7 лет назад +1

      moohuhahaaa Want vs need. Purpose-built vehicles vs Frankenstein monstrosities borne from a marketing executive's view of "what people want but don't know they want yet" idealisms. It's a compromise vehicle that makes no one happy. Like the Chevy Avalanche or the Pontiac Aztek -- two of the ugliest "compromise" vehicles ever made. This guy, if he could get over his own "truck addiction", really should be looking at a Ford Transit Van or a Ford Expedition, depending on his needs. A pickup truck with a 5.5' bed is stupid. It's not a truck anymore. It's a compromise vehicle that makes no one happy. That's my opinion which is different than yours -- something that happens in a democratic society. You get over it.

    • @moohuhahaaa
      @moohuhahaaa 7 лет назад

      Zmoto, while I won't argue that the Pontiac Aztek and Chevy Avalanche are ugly, to suggest they "make no one happy" is a poor assessment. The Chevy Avalanche sold 625,206 vehicles over 13 years, and the Pontiac Aztek sold 119,662 over 8 years. Clearly, they made someone happy, albeit someone we wouldn't associate with. Nonetheless, they make bed extenders for a reason. I'm sure if this guy wanted a van or SUV, he'd purchase one. It seems to me he wants a truck, and like millions of other people, the short bed suits him just fine.
      Oh.. and technically we live in a republic ("..and to the republic, for which it stands..."), not a democracy. Our founding fathers criticized pure democracy. Just sayin'.
