    I'm a Toyota guy. I test-drove a supercab 4x4 F-150 with the tiny 2.7L V6 on a whim, primarily to laugh at it. In all honesty I hadn't read anything about them. I didn't even know it was made of aluminum.
    An hour later I drove away in my new truck. Amazing machine. One correction, though: I WAS a Toyota guy. Not anymore.

      +Mickey Bitsko After 3000 miles my lifetime fuel economy is 21.4 mpg. That's mostly high speed interestate (70 - 80 mph) and about 1/3 suburban. I do try to conserve.
      Last weekend a 300 mile drive on 80 mph interstates cracked 20 mpg while gaining 1500 feet of elevation. In a full-size 4x4 pickup. Anyone who knows anything about trucks can tell you that's nothing short of miraculous.

      There's nothing exciting about your truck being worth fuck all resale because everyone knows it'll last a third as long as a Toyota or Honda. You couldn't sell an F-150 with 100k miles for a box of milk duds, but a Toyota with 150k is still going to command thousands.

    All of these shown features are lots of extra $$$ in an F150. I can say from first-hand experience, that if you don't want or need a $35K-$62K pickup; if you don't need extra seating space; if you don't need 4WD that is both expensive and adds lots of weight; you don't need or want a long bed; and if you don't need a high axle ratio which keeps the RPM higher for highway cruising for extra towing capability but worse mpg--there is still an F150XL regular cab, 2wd, short bed, with 3.31 reg rear axle with all the same important technologies as the ones shown in all these reviews, for a competitive price and great fuel economy. I can say first hand that the all-new 2.7 Ecoboost paired with the same configured truck that I've listed above (or a version not so heavy, not so tall, and not so high geared) can get near the EPA combined estimate of 22 mpg with a light foot.
    So my point is that the real advantage of a Ford over its competitors is in the regular cab XL version, because here is where Ford offers their most advanced engine, that will achieve the top of the range for fuel economy and also near the top in horsepower and torque, which means no sacrificing capability and performance or fuel economy at under $30K. As of this writing, none of the competition has an answer for this at any where near this lower price point. The 2.7 Ecoboost is a small premium of less than $800 added to a $26K base price. The Ram on the other hand, gives one a torque weakling V6 standard, a gas-guzzling Hemi as an option for not much more money, but does not allow consumers to get the amazing Ecodiesel until one chooses extra seats that he or she may not need or want, and requires a minimum price at or about $38K. GM does provide a direct-injection V6 that is somewhat advanced, but it's not as advanced as the twin-turbo Ecoboost, and as such it comes in pretty low-end torqueless by comparison.
    Most reviews illustrating the 2.7 Ecoboost sort of hide the best suit for this engine, because most all are with the super crew (four big doors), most all include 4WD, and most all have a version with higher gearing than the standard 3.31 reg rear axle. The 2.7 can handle this extra weight and mass and higher gearing no problem, but much of the fuel economy potential goes away as the turbos stay on boost too often in both in town and highway driving, as it has to work harder. But the $27.5K truck that I bought a couple of months ago, which includes chrome trim and some important convenience features like cruise, power glass and doors, and remote keyless entry; is returning me an average of 23 mpg so far.

Having said thathowever, my F150 continues to perform excellently and is a joy to drive. I always look forward to driving it. I just paid my local dealership 5500 bucks to fix my 2015 F150 Platinum. The pile of (sorry this is the only word that truly applies so I apologize) crap only has 50,000 miles. That's 7k a year divided 12 months divided by four weeks in a month divided by 7 days a week comes to. This pile of crap every 20 miles is a ticking time bomb in need of repairs. Wish the dealership had told me this when they took 52,000 for me to buy it. Awesome insight. Everytime this pile breaks down the service manager and mechanic get a commission for everything they can find. Screw that flat rate honest approach. They're jacking up everything to put money that the customer doesn't even see on their bill. So mine just sits in the yard as an edifice of what not to buy. I know no one cares the dealership sure doesn't. So kids don't touch hot stoves or F150 both will burn you.

      +Daniel Bell If you don't mind me asking do you have the 5.0 or the 3.5 EcoBoost? I'm intending to get the 3.5L but I have never got behind the wheel of a 3.5 EcoBoost equipped F-150. I like the overall feel of the truck and I agree unless the parking spot is big I have to find a spot somewhere to park the truck whenever I was driving the truck and it is a SuperCab model.

    • @1234567890ZETA
      @1234567890ZETA 8 лет назад

      +Daniel Bell Oh okay I hope you can give me more input, right now I'm really leaning on the 3.5 EcoBoost because I like the balance of power and fuel economy it has and the torque rating. Right now I'm very particular with the mileage these trucks go (past 50K miles), what to expect as the engine is turbocharged and not just direct-injected. I've never owned an American-made vehicle so forgive me for asking too much questions.

      +Daniel Bell That's still good to know, my boss has a 3.5 EcoBoost Screw and he told me at more 50,000 miles he hasn't experienced any issues at all and it returns excellent fuel economy. Thanks for your input, greatly appreciate it!

    So back seat of the super cab is cramped, and the crew cab is bigger than it needs to be. Then either way, its a handful to maneuver because of the width. Then there's the price. A midsize makes so much more sense.

    • @jimmyhoffa9
      @jimmyhoffa9 9 лет назад

      Unless you need a big truck to haul 5 guys to work, a bed full of tools and a trailer full of shit(or supplies), then it makes a dickload of sense. All US pickups have been oversized for decades, this is not that much bigger in full spec. Probably not as nimble as the other offerings, but driving these kind of trucks is not hard, even in Europe.

    • @bahamatodd
      @bahamatodd 9 лет назад

      ***** Why do 5 working guys need limo-like legroom? The F150 is now on par with HD pickups from 10 years ago. Yes that will help the few that actually use their truck for work, but for the majority of those buying Lariat and Platinum trimmed trucks as their daily driver for that once in a while trip to home depot its total overkill.

    • @jimmyhoffa9
      @jimmyhoffa9 9 лет назад

      Todd Wilson
      Because they want to, and because they're big? Don't blame the truck that alot of owners just drive them as DD's because they want to look cool in a bg truck, blame the drivers.

    Interior is so far behind its competition, really wonder if this will sell well. Also the exterior styling is nearly identical to the last generation, its as if they couldn't change it too much or the style change mixed with the switch to aluminum would cause customers to go elsewhere.

    I enjoyed the review of the new F150 and even bought a 2016 base model 4x4.
    Does anyone ever talk about reliability and dependability studies. The F150 ranked higher in these categories on Consumer Reports. I wish American auto makers would concentrate on building a more dependable product. I think American auto makers can do better. Please review reliability and dependability to encourage manufacturers to do better. Toyota and Honda seem to always get a better rating in these categories. Encourage the big three auto makers to do a better job than Toyota and Honda. Eventually, Consumer Reports could be reporting better ratings for U.S. companies.
    America can be the best at building quality automobiles that outlast all others.

    ford should bring back the excursion now that they have this engine and the aluminum design down the excursion could get by environmental criticisms of bad fuel economy I know there are lots of people out there with excursions who just want a new one because theirs was so great. this is market currently controlled by GM with the suburban and Tahoe. but those vehicles show no real innovation and still use the same old naturally aspirated engines.

    • @letstalknewcars8860
      @letstalknewcars8860 9 лет назад +5

      I agree. The excursion is the steel tank Ford doesn't have. It's hard to compete with the big boys tho (e.g. Tahoe, etc.)

    • @zeals1870
      @zeals1870 9 лет назад +6

      Ford effectively replaced the Excursion with the Expedition EL because of fuel economy regulations and concerns. Ford is working on developing an aluminum body Expedition and Navigator to be out in the market within the next 2 years. I know it isn't the same as the Super Duty SUV but they are great for many of customers Ford had with the Excursion.

    Considering that I clean these trucks and all other ford vehicles everyday, I'm not a ford guy, but they did step it up. But its still a ford. The only Ford that I would own is King Ranch with every feature available, and that's still skeptical in my mind. I'd rather get a Denali or Tundra instead, but thats my opinion.

    Thinking of trading my tundra in for a 5.0 V8 f150 crew cab 4x4 with the 3.73 gears in it. Anyone know if the 5.0 Is a good engine? Took one for a test drive and it runs strong, just don't know about those electric fans. Anyone own one, and could let me know before I buy. Thanks

      The 5.0 is a solid reliable engine. My favorite two engines are the 2.7L eco boost and the 3.5L eco boost. I would reccomend the 3.5L eco boost if you want to tow over 7,000lbs.

    Yah except they fucked up on the door latches when it gets cold outside. They freeze and won't latch. Gotta drive down the road with a ratchet strap from one side of truck to other to keep the doors closed while driving. Warmer climates won't have the issue. Ford is aware of it and doesn't say its a "recall" but will fix it for free if they have the parts which of course is always on back order and no telling when it can be fixed.
