    This doc is refreshing just from a technical production standpoint: no reenactments or dramatic reconstructions! Love it! If it were made today there would be endless shots of recreated situations with actors.

    This is the ONLY documentary that even mentions Terry Hawkshaw! He's featured heavily in the first part of "This Is Personal", and literally never mentioned in any doc out of the dozen or so out there.

    A policeman told me that Oldfield used to visit Yorkshire pubs nearly every night and that his driver had to walk him pissed up his garden path.

    How not to conduct an investigation, you can bang on about hindsight all you like, but the senior investigators demonstrated an ineptitude of epic proportions highlighted in the Byford report. It beggars belief that these individuals ever attained the status they did.

    It shows you how primitive police procedures were only 40 years ago. The truth is, despite the huge amount of resources used to catch the ripper, it was pure luck that he was caught. They would catch him in a matter of weeks nowadays.

    go to google type in WILLIAM TRACEY IS NOT THE YORKSHIRE RIPPER and then go to the first site listed, it refutes all the allegations made by the author of the real yorkshire ripper site. the theory of a ripper other than sutcliffe is a complete fairytale.

      pdw2309 Three week prior to Emily Jacksons murder an 85 yr old woman was savagely murdered in Bingley. Two days later another fatal stabbing. Five days later another prostitute killed (along with her 3 yr old son). The killer was a student by the name of Rowntree.

    The 'Wearside Jack' business was a complete shambles! Apparently the bloke who did the hoax (John Humble) phoned up the police & told them to ignore the tapes because they were a hoax. He had realised the harm he had done, but nobody acted on that call. The police on here were referring to him as a 'geordie' They couldn't even get that right because he was a Mackem from Sunderland, not a Geordie.

      Andrew Dennis I don't believe he phoned the police up at all because when he sent letters to George he also sent a copy to the mirror newspaper in Manchester if he was worried his hoax had gone to far it would have been better to contact the papers at the same time.

    • @Jac70
      @Jac70 7 лет назад +1

      He did call and tell them it was a hoax. Of course if he had been the killer it's exactly the thing you'd do if you wanted to put people of your trail. If John Humble really wanted to put right what he had done he should have told the police who he was and exactly what he did. The he could have been eliminated from the enquiry.

    • @Leodisdude
      @Leodisdude 7 лет назад

      He did. I saw a program and it played a recording of the phone call of him saying "ignore it, it's a hoax"
      You could tell it was Humble.

    • @Leodisdude
      @Leodisdude 7 лет назад

      Not really Trooperjac. Why would the killer have sent the tapes in the first place if he didn't want t be found?
      Reason he didn't tell them exactly who he was and what he did because he knew he would have been in massive trouble.
      He sent the original hoax because he was drunk most of the time and it was a drunken prank.
      In a rare sober moment he realised he'd gone too far.

    At least the Police didn't sit on their ass and do nothing. Mistakes are always made when your under that kind of pressure to solve a case like this. As is almost always the case it's the little things that hang the suspect. A parking ticket got the son of sam, A keen eyed truck driver got the Washington snipers, a traffic stop got Bundy, the little things..
