Just got the A1 Mini this afternoon. Thank you for designing and making available the top mount. Now I can put Mini on the only available table that I have!
Thank you for watching. That one I didn't design. But wanted to share with everyone. Works fantastic. I'm glad you found it useful and enjoy that printer, they are fantastic!!
Will definitely print the top mount. I appreciate the video! My favorite mod so far is a organizer with 3 little drawers and a poopshoot. Holds all you nozzles, tools etc.. The drawer assembly screws into the bottom using two existing screws and you can add optional magnets (I did this and think it's worth it) for the large poop catcher. Really a nice print which replaced my storage case for my tools. Easy to find on Maker World if you search for A1 mini organizer. Cheers!
Great video. I am thinking of buying the a1 mini but I am not sure about the ams. I am more into printing functional parts rather than figures. Should I buy the ams? Is the a1 mini good for functional prints? Thanks in advance.
What material are you planning to use for functional parts? If your doing a PLA, PLA+, PETG you'll be fine with the A1, or A1 mini. If your doing ABS, ASA you are going to want to print with a enclosure to maintain temperature. I went with the A1 Mini without AMS for now, I wanted a simple printer that was easy to teach with. My kids have been picking it up fast. I also didn't plan to multi-color print much if at all with the Mini. I have two other printers I'm utilizing for multi-color printing. If you only plan to have the A1 mini, you could also start with just the printer, get used to it, and eventually upgrade to the AMS. It's a easy addition. I plan to purchase so I can do a video covering that.
I like this top mount, but with this, i think it's better to just use 3cm of PTFE tube, and directly put the filament inside instead of this long tube.
That top mount looks sick! I noticed that my A1 mini was moving while printing when I used the original stool holder mainly because the weight wasn't evenly distributed, I'd assume this top one would fix that!
That was something I should have mentioned as well. My printer walked around a bit with the spool in the back. With it up top and the weight centered it's not moved much, if at all. I also feel like it's a little easier to get to everything and load / unload the spool.
@@brendahennesseereger8609 lol yes, that is why I had to print the deflector for it. Hits that, then falls into the bin!! Was surprised by that design initially! Thanks for watching.
I've had mixed success with Sunlu spools. You may get lucky and have a spool that fits the ams lite fine. You can print one of these if you have fitment issues. If you only bought the sunlu filament use the external spool holder before you install your AMS lite and print 4 of these: makerworld.com/en/models/120677?from=search#profileId-131776 That should get you going!
You can print a handle, where you use the original spool holder. The spool holder is placed on the left side of the handle. Much much smarter then this handle.
Both spool holders? Yes you could utilize both. The A1 mini and A1 come with the 4 to one PTFE adapters, so you could utilize the two different spool holders to run two different colors. You would then just manually color change as needed in your slicer. Does that answer your question? Want to make sure I'm understanding correctly!
You can multi color print, but you would have to program your manual filament changes in your supported slicer, Bambu studio allows this. Basically you program color changes at whatever layer height you would need and have to manually change it - the AMS does this automatically. I’ll try and do a video on manual color changes when I’m able to soon!
I haven't used the Mini with TPU - just PETG, and PLA. I have some and will do some testing with the top mount to see how it turns out. With the top mount the filament feeds pretty smooth, about the same as the standard mount. When I print TPU I usually print it from a dryer box that I sit next to the printer in the most direct route to alleviate any excessive pulling from the extruder - if there is to much tension in that process I've noticed some under extrusion with TPU. I'll run some through that top spool mount and get back to you though, interested to see how that does. Great question!
@@ThePrintasaurus Thanks for your future test, I already own A1 and the A1 mini is also arriving in the family for prints mainly in TPU and I would be interested to know how the top mount behaves with that material. Because if the PTFE has tight curves, with the A1, it does not extrude filament. Greetings from Sicily!!!
@@peppinhoITALIA I tested TPU this afternoon, I'm going to do a video on my experience. But I was able to get it to print without major issues. I had to adjust the ptfe tube a bit to get it to not pull the TPU, but it appears to have worked with the top mount!
How about no? How about i do want or need any upgrades. You just don't get it do you? Your hobby needs plug and play printers for people that don't want to fiddle with the printer. This is that
The A1, A1 mini are great examples of plug and play printers. Even adding the AMS lite is easy with these printers. Everything has it's place, some like what could be seen as improvements and some like to tinker and look for things to print for there printers. Nothing wrong with either. Especially when you can utilize your printer to make things for it if that is what you want to do. What kind of printer are you using? I clicked on your page and saw onroad rc. I haven't done to much on road, but have been a avid RC 1/10th scale buggy racer. TLR mostly. The onroad stuff looks like a lot of run. Where I am at I don't have access to any parking lots so the only option is off road!
he’s not fiddling with the printer, just making some quality of life improvements, if you don’t wanna do it then don’t do it? what’s with the hostility lmao
@@waka0908 - 100% agree 👍 adding a handle with integrated spool holder, as well as a decent poop basket to my A1 mini had been a game changer for operating that thing. Even if I loved the out of the box experience, this has gotten even better now.

I like that top mount spool holder. Good idea. Thanks
It's saved me a ton of space, which allowed me to not have to buy a piece of furniture to put it on!
Thanks for sharing these upgrades!
You bet!
Good video I like the reflector idea
It helps keep filament from going everywhere! Thanks for the view and comment!
I LIKE THAT TOP MOUNT HOLDER OVER THEM OTHER TOP MOUNT HOLDER
It works great, I like that it has some utility built in - can be used for a external spool, instead of just a handle.

I'll have to take a look at the drawers. Would like to keep everything together with the printer to better organize.
@Victorious8966 - I didn't have any issues with moving the cable behind the printhead. It hasn't caught on anything or caused any issues so far.

Vase mode is continuous and for a Timelapse you’ll need layers so the print head can stop and take a picture
Thanks for commenting. I found that interesting when printing on the A1 mini.

That's exactly how I have mine set up and it works beautifully.
I'll have to test that, would same some unnecessary tube length.

I just order my first 3d printer a1 mini combo. I bought sunlu filament on amazon. Do i need a special spool for compatability?

The height of the spool holder and handle. From table to top please.
22" without a spool. Roughly 25" with the spool on the top mount.

@@sverrijoensen I've seen a few new options. This sounds like one to try as well. Thanks for watching.
Maybe a naive question, would A1 mini support both the spools? I wish to use multiple spool without getting AMS lite, is that technically possible?
