About me:
I've been making short films for 20 years, starting at age 11. I directed my first feature film, Bad is Bad, in 2010. Made for only $6,000, the film went on to reach over 7 million views and garner critical acclaim. More recently, my short film, Will "The Machine", screened and won awards at film festivals around the world. Released online in 2019, it reached over 1 million views in just a month. I also work as a video editor, cutting ads for clients such as Apple, Netflix, and Beats by Dre.

tip: There's a three lines menu besides your sequence title at the top of the timeline, I always check "Show audio time units" when doing this type of work to be exact editing audio. This lets you cut audio wherever you want instead of dividing the timeline by frames.
How did I not know about this! Gonna try this when I’m editing tomorrow!
WOAH
Congratulations on 100K! Been watching you for a bit now, and all of your videos are ON POINT and incredibly engaging. Thanks for putting your stuff out here for us freelance people!
I've been using only the first technique, heard of the second one but couldn't figure out how to do it consistently and never noticed the third even though i've seen it. Soooo helpful. Thanks and congrats man
Congratulations on 100K! It feels cool to have been watching your content since before this milestone.
Thanks so much! Definitely need more in-depth guides on this with varied examples for different music types and moods
Congrats on 100k! this was exactly the video I needed!
I think my main problem with this video is how easy you make it look! Amazing skills. Brilliant tutorial. Thank you.
Quality tutorials like this are hard to find, let alone ones about editing music in videos. You present the problem (a common one) and walk us through a "real world" solution, explaining your thought process. Very helpful.
You’re awesome man!! I just started using Premiere a couple months ago. (After about a year of being too overwhelmed by it to use it consistently.) You’re videos, such as this one, has helped me immensely. It is now my main editor.👍
Such a great tutorial! The Remix feature is just a roll of the dice, and forces you to edit your footage to the music, so I'm glad you detailed some great tools to edit the music to the footage!
This video was so helpful it's been a while since I've learned something new on RUclips and I'm definitely going to start using all of your tips💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
I enjoyed a lot understanding better my audio editing with this techniques! Good Work !!
Congrats on your achievements mate 😁👏
Congratulations on 100K man👊
Congrats on 100k! Just subscribed about a week ago and am happy to be here🎉
Always wondered how to achieve that ring from the reverb. Dope
I have to admit, I've come back to this video a few times to remember some of the techniques in here. I'm not at the point where I'm using them enough to remember, but I'm grateful for your video!
Congrats for the 100k!
I've remixed tracks before to my edits, but still some really helpful tips in here that I didn't think of. Thanks for the tips. Will try to put them to good use
Thanks for sharing your work flow it helped a lot
super valuable thanks!!
This is a different way than I've seen when other people work with music but it works and something I will definitely be incorporating.
great video! should definitely do more editing videos like this

this is so good - thanks! newbie editor
This is a really good video!
100k good job brotha!
Well deserved 100k! I want it to be 1 million.
Good tips! I might add that it’s often more important to make music edits in time (tempo) than it is to make a super-slick edit. One good way to do this is to put your two clips that you want to edit together on different tracks and open up the head or tail of one of them, so you can hear both together and slide one of them teeny bits until the snares line up or anotherl 9:57 visible percussion. Now you can focus on exactly where you want to make the actual edit or crossfade, But now it will in time and it won’t so critical where your edit falls.
100k congrats
4:25 "I'll be DAMNED if we're not gonna get that beat to hit there." LOL. I felt that.
Congrats on 100k, my man!

Hey ! Can you make a video on the workflow process of working with a colorist as an editor? Like how an editor works with an independent colorist, how to export files to a colorist, how to handle changes after the fact from the client and getting a new grade done, etc.
Thanks tutorial

This is fine for vlogs and such but if you are making a real work of art such as a film or music video then I think the video needs to be edited to the music. There is something magic that happens when you do this. The music is as much a part of the story as the story itself.
If you are making narrative film, it is better to edit or even write music for the video :)
Editing to the music is almost always wrong. The only exception is music videos where the music itself is more important than the visuals.
Imagine being so clueless and uncreative that you let a song decide where you cut. The timing of a cut have a reason. When to cut is the art of editing. You’re a bad editor if you let a song decide where to cut.
@@fredrikmalmgren9628 I disagree. It depends on the scene. If it's a dialog scene then obviously it needs to be edited so that the dialog makes sense. But sometimes the music is the focal point of the scene such as in montages. You are not merely editing to some random song. The song has been made/chosen specifically for that scene for a reason. Not just selected at random from some royalty free library. Music and visuals together can be very powerful. Music is great to edit to because it is perfectly timed and synchronizing your visuals to your music can be very powerful. So it depends on how important the music is to the scene.
Instead of syncing cuts on the beat you can also cut slightly off the beat to make cuts less noticeable. You can also cut to movement in the frame not a cut at all. Also 30fps will sync better than 25fps you just have more frames to match to per second.
OR use the remix fuction to make the music work for yo video
dat ring out made this video worth it alone
useful 10min editing tips.
Hello from France ⚽🏆🎊🏁 ! You're talking about "drop out" - in fact it's like a transgression of the rule. The rule it's the "music" for a "long time" (a few shots for ex) and then... the transgression would be "no music" for a shortest time (a few shots).
Imagine reasoning in the same way for everything that constitutes a fillm !
I think that a real idea of staging includes in itself its rule and its own transgression.
Which gives the following contradictory equation: 1=2.
Imagine the for a scene : a few shots (the rule) and then one reverse shot (the transgression of the rule)
The character says something during those shots... and then is saying the opposite with the reverse one. The technic of editing is corresponding to the psychology of the character and then with the script - we could say ; two opposites in one scene, or in one character, something like 2=1.
For the whole movie I said ! For all what is constituing a movie in fact - a hero like Indiana (Native) Jones (American) is 1 hero = 2 opposites. Another ex ? Lawrence (english) of Arabia (arabic) is working for both, arabic and british interests. Another one ? Alien in the spaceship Nostromo, a dramatic shock - 2 opposites in 1 spaceship, humanity vs beast in one spaceship called Nostromo - in latin language "Nostra homo = our humanity, us...) 1=2 means our own humanity cause we are the both inside us, a beauty and a beast that are fighting - our drama. What about "Jaws" ? Sheriff Brody(like Body...) who is afraid of water and finds himself on the boat with fishing pro during the pursuit (1 boat =2 opposites) - he kills a shark with a gun thanks to an exploding oxygen cylinder (trangression of the rule) ; nothing to do with an arsenal and the rule of an experienced fisherman (1=2) ; Brody is a hero of this story because he finds himself in a contradictory situation (1=2). Now in another area, a light bulb works with 2 opposite polarities ; a + (positive) and a - (negative). And there was light !!! 1=2 is the formula for the audience to feel emotions in a movie theater. That's why we can call that "an idea" in dramatic art ! Now I'm not the only one to think that you need 1 idea per shot (at less), otherwise what's the point of doing it ? Thanks to read this post and thanks for your tips it helps many of us 🙂🍻
how about the remix tool?
W post
I live in Hawaii! Can I help with your short?
how do you care of your eyes while editing for long hours
This is so useful music can limit your videos if you just keep the music as the standard stock stuff
I'm pretty sure the remix option was out when this video came out
Love a nice fat reverb.
Keep that thang on me😂
Don’t know if you mention it, but Premiere Pro has a feature under Essential Sound where you it automatically can loop a section of a song for a duration you select. its not exact but works pretty well
I haven’t gotten good results with that Remix feature personally, and most editors I know wouldn’t touch it for a serious project
Heavy Bob Ross vibes
Video starts at 2:18
I cracked up during the thug life meme. Make that shit wet, yo.
Ladies and gentlemen the tutorial starts at 2'10" 😏
I edit always to music and let it dictate the pacing. Isn't that what some hollywod editors do? Hence the temp music etc.
congrats on 100k!
