Made for only $6,000, the film went on to reach over 7 million views and garner critical acclaim. More recently, my short film, Will "The Machine", screened and won awards at film festivals around the world. Released online in 2019, it reached over 1 million views in just a month. I also work as a video editor, cutting ads for clients such as Apple, Netflix, and Beats by Dre.

    tip: There's a three lines menu besides your sequence title at the top of the timeline, I always check "Show audio time units" when doing this type of work to be exact editing audio. This lets you cut audio wherever you want instead of dividing the timeline by frames.

    Good tips! I might add that it’s often more important to make music edits in time (tempo) than it is to make a super-slick edit. One good way to do this is to put your two clips that you want to edit together on different tracks and open up the head or tail of one of them, so you can hear both together and slide one of them teeny bits until the snares line up or anotherl 9:57 visible percussion. Now you can focus on exactly where you want to make the actual edit or crossfade, But now it will in time and it won’t so critical where your edit falls.

    This is fine for vlogs and such but if you are making a real work of art such as a film or music video then I think the video needs to be edited to the music. There is something magic that happens when you do this. The music is as much a part of the story as the story itself.

    • @Fedor_Dokuchaev_Color
      @Fedor_Dokuchaev_Color Год назад +9

      If you are making narrative film, it is better to edit or even write music for the video :)

    • @fredrikmalmgren9628
      @fredrikmalmgren9628 Год назад

      Editing to the music is almost always wrong. The only exception is music videos where the music itself is more important than the visuals.
      Imagine being so clueless and uncreative that you let a song decide where you cut. The timing of a cut have a reason. When to cut is the art of editing. You’re a bad editor if you let a song decide where to cut.

    • @yeahrightbear8883
      @yeahrightbear8883 Год назад +7

      @@fredrikmalmgren9628 I disagree. It depends on the scene. If it's a dialog scene then obviously it needs to be edited so that the dialog makes sense. But sometimes the music is the focal point of the scene such as in montages. You are not merely editing to some random song. The song has been made/chosen specifically for that scene for a reason. Not just selected at random from some royalty free library. Music and visuals together can be very powerful. Music is great to edit to because it is perfectly timed and synchronizing your visuals to your music can be very powerful. So it depends on how important the music is to the scene.

    • @Photovintageguy
      @Photovintageguy Год назад +1

      Instead of syncing cuts on the beat you can also cut slightly off the beat to make cuts less noticeable. You can also cut to movement in the frame not a cut at all. Also 30fps will sync better than 25fps you just have more frames to match to per second.

  • @yannberte8291
    @yannberte8291 Год назад

    Hello from France ⚽🏆🎊🏁 ! You're talking about "drop out" - in fact it's like a transgression of the rule. The rule it's the "music" for a "long time" (a few shots for ex) and then... the transgression would be "no music" for a shortest time (a few shots).
    Imagine reasoning in the same way for everything that constitutes a fillm !
    I think that a real idea of staging includes in itself its rule and its own transgression.
    Which gives the following contradictory equation: 1=2.
    Imagine the for a scene : a few shots (the rule) and then one reverse shot (the transgression of the rule)
    The character says something during those shots... and then is saying the opposite with the reverse one. The technic of editing is corresponding to the psychology of the character and then with the script - we could say ; two opposites in one scene, or in one character, something like 2=1.
    For the whole movie I said ! For all what is constituing a movie in fact - a hero like Indiana (Native) Jones (American) is 1 hero = 2 opposites. Another ex ? Lawrence (english) of Arabia (arabic) is working for both, arabic and british interests. Another one ? Alien in the spaceship Nostromo, a dramatic shock - 2 opposites in 1 spaceship, humanity vs beast in one spaceship called Nostromo - in latin language "Nostra homo = our humanity, us...) 1=2 means our own humanity cause we are the both inside us, a beauty and a beast that are fighting - our drama. What about "Jaws" ? Sheriff Brody(like Body...) who is afraid of water and finds himself on the boat with fishing pro during the pursuit (1 boat =2 opposites) - he kills a shark with a gun thanks to an exploding oxygen cylinder (trangression of the rule) ; nothing to do with an arsenal and the rule of an experienced fisherman (1=2) ; Brody is a hero of this story because he finds himself in a contradictory situation (1=2). Now in another area, a light bulb works with 2 opposite polarities ; a + (positive) and a - (negative). And there was light !!! 1=2 is the formula for the audience to feel emotions in a movie theater. That's why we can call that "an idea" in dramatic art ! Now I'm not the only one to think that you need 1 idea per shot (at less), otherwise what's the point of doing it ? Thanks to read this post and thanks for your tips it helps many of us 🙂🍻
