@17:47 That 2 second clip of the guitar is a great way to pace the cuts for 'tension' in the music, right before the next phrase comes in. I feel like musicians make the best music video editors. Good job!
Recently I cut our first music video which would not be possible without the massive knowledge from your team :) The intro i built up in a reverse way, closeups with the dominant instruments as you advised, then the wide shot about the whole band, it just turned around great. Thanks for all the effort you put to this channel!
Great video! Another tip that I find works best for editing multiple takes: color coding. Choose a color for the different types of camera angles, the instruments, pretty much anything that could help you differentiate each set of clips. This is super helpful especially for the "show what you hear" tip, as soon as you know that you need electric guitar, you can pinpoint exactly where all the electric guitar clips are.
Great tips, and as long as that timeline is organised for you, that's all that matters.. I kind of died looking at it with my OCD 😂 looking forward to the next one!
This might be weird, but I enjoy watching you videos even when it's not about something I'm interested in. Always a good time watching your stuff, Parker!
i cant thank you enought that how much this video is help full for me.. the way you expain everything is so on point.. love tihs and want to see more this kind of videos
I have been editing since the beta version of Avid came out and I'm always down to learn more tips and tricks [like you, I stick with Premiere Pro these days]. You are spot on about noticing bad edits in big budget movies. The over the shoulder shot where you can absolutely tell the voice audio doesn't match the head movements of the person whose face you can't see is probably the worst offender for me.
Very useful tips. Most of the idea I have self aware in my video editor life. But I can never promise that I can fully following this 'rules' in my video. There are many reason, sometimes I just forgot, sometimes my energy down when my boss/clients is too suck, and sometimes it doesn't have that many option in the first place. But still feel very good to review these knowledge which I afraid I will forget in one day...
It's because all new creators go to davinci resolve...also me after 15 years in adobe...the thing that really makes me feel sad is all these creators I was following I have to leave them back because no more premiere or after... still this video as a way to learn for a music clip was awesome 👍
@@chrisperrywv yeap you did the right thing and if adobe don't change the way of their policy with the prices in the next five years nobody will buy their products
@@subbassline1247 I also make like 1 video a year 🤣 (not this channel. I have a different one that can’t decide what it wants to be. This one just settled on personal videos)
@@chrisperrywv I'm sure you will find your way my friend what you want to do...for me giving 60 dollars every month for adobe when you get with 295 dollars the whole davinci studio forever with All the updates (also the free version is really good)it's really amazing
cool trips thanks for sharing bro., to add one more tip for better takes, use multicam it's better for clip arrangement and also easy way to chose which clip suits best and you can always come and change in one click.
Great tips. I really enjoy and appreciate how your tips are not just on the technical side of things, but also on the artistic/creative side of things. Good way to combine and develop skills and talent. Thanks Parker.
These tutorials were really REALLY HELPFUL, I've been watching your tutorials since I started to learn how to edit videos (since pandemic), from the basic usage of the software (Adobe Premiere Pro) to these tutorials. It really helped me A LOT especially when I was given an opportunity by our director to edit the music video that I shot. 😄 Thank you so much for these, hope I'll learn more from you guys, stay safe always and god bless 😊
Appreciate your approach and attention to details. Your teaching style is very clear and easy to understand. Lots of great advice within these tips that were on point and well explained. Even when you diverted from what was usual (eg showed bassist instead of guitarist at 4:41) your reasoning was well justified. You really capture the overall flow and feel of the music video with your choice of footage. Great work!!
I’d probably go with multicam and proxies because otherwise I’d get confused with the timelime. I am too indecisive to do it this way. :) my 2021 Mac with M1 chip has handled everything fine so far without proxies but I haven’t yet thrown 8K at it. I have the R5C so I will be testing that out.
Excellent tips! I can only add clip colour coding. Interestingly, I also prefer the enable/disable workflow instead of multicam, probably because sometimes it can be 40 takes...
Multicam is way easier for me. I set up multicams for every performace of every scene of the video and then I can see all the takes at once and I can change shots quicker and then I add B-Roll on top of the performances. Of course you need proxies for this kind of workflow but it's quicker imo.
Omg I was litreally about to work on a music video project. This is SO helpful! Thank you so much! Edit :- I noticed the audio was hitting 0db on the right, is it okay to leave it like that or should I reduce it to around 12db~14db?
You asked us to tell you what we think. I play the guitar and I am a graphic designer. I didn’t care for your decision to focus on the bass when it was a guitar that was being played the loudest regardless if you thought the bass was visually more vigorous in his playing or not. Bottom line, it didn’t match the sound with the instrument. I’ve seen that before. It might have been a live performance, but I never liked it when the sound didn’t match the visual. That part of the song would probably be played again. I feel it would be better if you showed the bass later in the song. Even if the bass player wasn’t so animated you could use that clip from the beginning… who would know?
Hey just curious. I want to know why you chose to go this route and didn't go for the multi-camera editing workflow? Just want to know your thoughts about this
@@fulltimefilmmaker Wow thanks for the reply! Yes, that's right playing back is a big issue for multi cam. And I guess layering them and your flow is more efficient cause you're watching each footage and choosing the best parts before the final edit. Looking forward to more awesome videos! A big fan right here!
The same way you broke down the edit! Do a bts of you shooting the video but brake it down the Same way would like to see that to! But keep up the great vids !!👍🏾
The uniqueness matters of what common to cut to vs the suspense/ surprise. Anyway I had a challenge where at times I would edit on raw audio and letter be given a processed music file where the entire mixing has been levelled. How do you deal with that?
Did you cover one instrument per take? Like did you have them sing/perform the whole song and in each take you filmed one piece of the band from a certain angle or did you move from musician to musician with the rig during each take?
Nice edit tips well done sir. I am one of your fan so I need to know how long it took you to make the music video shoot? You said you had 15 different shots.
I'm doing a lot of disabling / enabling of clips in a project right now, using the context menu is very slow. How are you toggling the enabled property without using the menu? Is it a custom keybinding or is there a default?
Holy moly that's some workflow, and you've made it work for you. But this timeline seems ridiculously messy- I can find myself losing track of where things are without early documentation of my track layers. Curious about why a multicam workflow was not considered? Especially when there seems to be mixed-framerate clips on the same track where other clips are playing back in realtime. But man, I'm super impressed that you've made this work, because the edit is solid and in the end that's what matters! Also how would you approach client feedback with such a sequence, is it hard making any changes?
You need the flexibility to move stuff around and experiment, since it's a music video, not a live event. Also 15 takes in a multicam window would be impossible to manage.
