Wonderful explanation, thank you. I was hoping to also hear the band playing/singing, like, IRL during the shooting. Just some 10 secs could've been enough 😇
@@RandomNullpointer Thanks for watching! I wanted to add some of that stuff, but I wanted to prevent any sort of copyright stuff with the bands audio. I'll be creating a new tutorial video on my editing techniques on music videos soon
If only I had more than one like to give... No budget occasional music videographer here to nod fervently throughout the video (especially about having a restroom nearby during any shoot) and steal some ideas!
Oh dude, Metal music is pretty much in my blood haha. Most of the bands I shoot with are metal. Let me know what type of stuff you want me to cover, and I'll put something together for you
This kind topic and the information that went into this video is what RUclips is all about. Great ideas, very well executed, done tastefully and the whole vibe really comes through on the video. Great work!
Thank you! Definitely trying to put more stuff like this out there. Kinda put RUclips off for a little bit to focus on client work, and learning more skills with music video productions. Will be making more stuff like this soon 🤘🏻
I’m shooting my first music video after the first of the year. This video helped a lot thank you very much. I see Earth Groans last year when they were on tour with Convictions. Jeremy and Michael and all of those guys are really cool
Excellent video! great tips! I really liked how simple and direct his explanation of the entire process was, and his synergy with the band's vision was also very creative!
Loved the video and subscribed! Most MV tutorials on YT cover the hip-hop genre, and honestly a lot of them look like absolute dog shit with no thought put behind them. So much potential lost there. Really enjoyed your video, shows that even not the most innovative idea and locations ever (buried alive and performance in a basement objectively were done many times before) can be done tastefully with some imagination and improvisation. Little additions to the story like that light shining through the hole and rescue operation really sell it. 🤘🏻
I wanna start getting into more hip hop and rap music videos, I just gotta find the clients for it haha. But thank you!! and yes! Not every idea is going to be original, but what you can do with existing ideas, is do it in your own way. The little details are what make it special :)
This is crazy, was trying to find lyric video inspiration and found this video, realized it was earth groans before i clicked it, THEN YOU SAY YOU WERE IN CONVICTIONS thats crazy, currently staying in fremont ohio, alot of sick bands in the area that i love working with and hope to work with in the future. Just thought that was sick and im only 58 seconds in haha
You just got a new sub simply for including "idiot" as a description of yourself in the intro graphic 😂 hilarious and probably not true. Cheers for the video 👍
So how do I get the chance to work with you on the next Convictions music video? I love metal and I'm a videographer trying to become a cinematographer.
WOW so sorry I missed this comment. I think that model may be discontinued, BUT the ones that would give that lightning effect and more, would be the Neewer 660Pro! Hope this helps!
I used a variety of different budget friendly lighting systems, but the biggest one I used was the Aputure 300x! That is typically my main key light for most of my productions
I think the hardest part is finding a videographer who work in this genre . Any tips ? I’m a solo deathcore artist . I’m dropping my first album in 2024. I want to make my first video but if it’s just me . How can I make a sick ass video if I don’t have a band
Hey! Sorry for the SUPER late reply lol. Been working on a ton of client work and had to put RUclips to the side for a bit. But the biggest tip I can honestly give anyone, is to do what you think is cool. Study aspects of other videos that you like, and incorporate it into your own creativity. Always follow the music when editing the videos so it has the same impact the music does. If you don’t have a band, you could either hire people to fill in for the video alone, or just create a dope story to put together that has the same impact the music does. Hope this helps 🙏🏼
What are some tips you would like to know about filming metal bands? 🤔
Wonderful explanation, thank you.

This is great! There aren't enough BTS of metal videos. It's inspiring to see the creativity
Thank you! I agree.. There aren't enough metal music video bts, but THATS WHY I'M HERE :)

Thank you! I love the guys in Earth Groans. When you put together a cool band, good friends, and good energy, good creativity is the end result 💪🏼
Great video and Convictions was and still is a great band!!
Thank you! My days with convictions are over in terms of playing with them, but I’m still happy to create a bunch of music videos for em 🤘🏻
Im a Michigan artist but i once had the pleasure of meeting Jeremy at a Grand rapids festival called Take hold
Jeremy is my freaking dude. One of my favorite people in the music scene that I’ve met.
That was a great insight. Love the work
Thank you! Love your guitar videos dude. Keep doing it!

Dude this was amazing please make more bts/breakdowns like this. Definitely not a whole lot of music video stuff out there for metal bands
Thank you.
Hey John quick question - what model Neewer lights did you use on the sides for that lightning effect? Been having a hell of a time finding them haha
WOW so sorry I missed this comment. I think that model may be discontinued, BUT the ones that would give that lightning effect and more, would be the Neewer 660Pro! Hope this helps!
Thanks for the breakdown! Were you using manual or auto focus?
Thanks a lot man, u really helped. So much useful information. Did u use only Aputure 300d as main light source?
Thanks for answer and regards
I used a variety of different budget friendly lighting systems, but the biggest one I used was the Aputure 300x! That is typically my main key light for most of my productions
