Wow, to think the q and w hot keys have been right there under my nose this whole time. As an incredibly slow editor, I really needed this video. Great job!
"CRANK OUT THAT 1:19:164:5 AND MAKE A 15 SECOND CUT DOWN THAT WOULD BE GREAT" I had this same interaction on the phone with a client last night. OMG so relatable. Keep up the amazing work and love your new office setup.
I used to edit my own RUclips videos when I was in HS and I absolutely loved it. I wanted to do this for a living but thought it wouldn’t compensate well so I always put it on the back burner ever since I was a kid. I decided it was time to dive back into it and I’m incredibly excited. I have a client lined up to work with already (free of course since I’m just getting back into it) thank you for these videos!
I literally spent HOURS yesterday on just an initial rough because I was hunting and pecking controls and editing by cut -> select -> delete -> right click -> ripple delete. jeesh! I recently moved from Final Cut Pro X over to Premier Pro and couldn't figure out how to do top/bottom edit in one action like the default ripple of FCPX. Retraining myself in a new editor has been sucking the life and enjoyment out of my project. This is gonna save me so much time, and I actually feel invigorated to begin my editing session again today. How serendipitous that you uploaded this today, total life saver!
I have been video editing for about 3 years now and it usually took me about 3-4 hours to edit a 2 hour piece of footage, I really appreciate these tips and now It only takes me an hour to push out a great vid. Thanks a lot, one day my projects will be seen by everybody :)
This has been my first year where I've been able to make somewhat consistent money as an assistant Editor and was immediately taught the exact same methods of how you're editing here. It's awesome to see I'm on the right track here.
Always useful stuff in this series, and Q & W are life changing. I'm new to this, but one thing I have found helpful is making regular use of the label function to assign colors to clips and sequences so I can see at a glance (for example) the gap between Greg talking (yellow) and Marsha talking (green), where I want to drop some B-roll clip (red).
Needed this video!! I am working my day job a lot and have a newborn so super hard to even find time to edit. Some of these tips I’ve seen but you present them in such a way it seems easy to follow and try out. Thanks!! 🙏🏻
The great thing about Excalibur is you can combine a bunch of things into one keystroke. If you find yourself doing the same thing on every cut then add those to one giant keystroke. Saves an insane amount of time.
To me, separating clips solely by track feels like such a waste of vertical space. Changing the label color can not only distinguish what’s a throw away, a maybe, or a definite, it can then be used during the more precise editing as a clear visual indicator of where one scene begins and another starts. This makes adding transitions and sound design faster. But depending on the project, the ways of saving time will be drastically different, because a mrbeast style video is a completely different timeline compared to an Apple commercial or a show on Netflix
amazing video, i need to start working on one task genre at a time like you mentioned. i tend to make a cut, think of the editing and just start it and it slows down my whole work flow. amazing tips, this genuinely is going to help loads
kent, I have been following you for some time now. your tips and tricks regarding filmmaking helped me, thank you. can you make a video about how the approach will be when we got all the footage and now have to get best parts of all the takes of a scene of given angle?
Returning here 2 years after I first saw the video, I realised just now how much I have learnt. I am so grateful for your channel, everytNice tutorialng
Love all your Tipps! Best advice video so far on RUclips...love the Excalibur Tool, will buy it directly. The guy sells even more great tools for Premiere
Unfortunately I can’t use shortcuts because of my disability, I can use mouse only but this video help me a lot with templates and I have understand the importance and power of organizations. You are always top notch
you could also look into autohotkey which can turn a bunch of combo keyboard modifiers into a single keystroke or mouseclick. you could also look into mouse gesture software.
Have watched plenty of your vids in the past but this one turned me into subscriber. Agree with all your tips especially number 3 on shortcuts and Excalibur. Also like how our workspace is similar in some areas
You dude this was so educational and informative. Is it possible you could add your premiere pro template on a drive or something so we can able to download and use so as a basis.much love!
Well the video is 13 mins so you both got fired I guess But fr thank you so much for these tips, especially the rough cut based on hierarchy, I've never seen it before And Excalibur is such a time saver for most editors. You still need to master the essential shortcuts of Premiere tho, cuz most basic function doesn't include in the plugin, and it's also doesn't make sense to be in it (E.g. the add edit). I recommend waiting for a sale if you guys wanna buy it, especially if it's your first plugin cuz $75 is not expensive nor cheap. One more tip that I found to save time in Premiere Pro: When doing every action/ sequence of actions in Premiere Pro, whether it be cutting clips, organizing files, adding effects, or anything, ask yourself: Is there a way to make it faster? Is there a way I can automate this? Most of the time the answer is yes and most of the solution that I found is a plugin or a shortcut.
Great video! I was wondering if you can make a video that goes in depth with template ties. Im fairly new and would wonder how to do this. Like how can I take something from one project and be able to apply it to another project?
The title is very insulting but it´s actually true, so can´t complain haha very helpful! I am starting to apply your workflow of several sequences for selection, edit, etc. I find it very clean and useful. I have a question btw. In the 1:23 you are using a keyboard command to drag the clip selected from track 1 to track 2. What´s that command? Thanks a lot!
As a side note, I would love to hear why you tackle your hardest project first. This is not the norm as most people tackle their easy projects first. Any more wisdom you have would be great.
Dude, I want to laugh at the client bursting in over and over again.... except it's so f***ing true! They are just like that. Except in my line of work, it wasn't clients, it was sales reps. Same breed, different smell. Great video, as always! :)
Is that OBS that you are using to screen record for long periods of time? I use the quick movie screen recorder and it works for me, but it feels like it takes up a lot of storage, so I don't mind using something better if you don't mind sharing what you use.
Wow, to think the q and w hot keys have been right there under my nose this whole time. As an incredibly slow editor, I really needed this video. Great job!
The day I discovered Q/W... I'll never forget the feeling of joy followed immediately by annoyance at how many hours of my life I had wasted.
Q & W !!
Same
+1 lmao, im gonna have so much more time now
The Q and W shortcut just saved my marriage, holy shit. I had no idea.

Hey it's a month later. How is it going?

You're the injection of humour I needed in my tutorial videos and I cannot thank you enough for providing that!

hello, im learning to be a video editor, but was wondering is it hard to get a job as a assistant video editor?
the detail/creativity in all your videos shows your true talent, hats off!!!
Thank you!

Yes! Love coloring clips. Also good for narrative projects to see how long each scene is and get a sense of pacing at a glance.
I can confirm the Template and "Q and W" tips are LIFE SAVERS!!
The man’s a gotdang genius. Thank you for this!

This is the second time I dig for this video to refresh my editing skills, truly underrated.

Yes! Didn't have time to get into all the features but creating custom macros makes it such a powerful tool for Premiere.
@@StandardStoryCo like you said though, premiere should have a tool like this built in
Do that daily with so many macros. Some macros I need Keyboard Maestro for but most times I run stuff through Excalibur
Thank you thank you thank you! I have a project with WAYYYY more footage then I'm used to and had no clue where to even start

thank you, seeing your project template folder helped me create mine
Could you go into a video of how to setup your workflow. Like your sequences, what screens you have pulled up, etc.
best advice video i've watched to date, especially the assembly line thinking, timesaver!
Love how u can use this for almost all editing programs
The easter egg website is........
idk didn't figure that out, I'm still a new subscriber :)
Great ideas for the clip selection, thanks
this is EXACTLY the video I needed, bravo
The sponsor section was so perfectly integrated into your video, never seen it that seamless before
lots of respect for you brother , You gave me a Golden tips
amazing video, i need to start working on one task genre at a time like you mentioned. i tend to make a cut, think of the editing and just start it and it slows down my whole work flow. amazing tips, this genuinely is going to help loads

The Excalibur is dope! Thanks for letting us know about it!

You should get a mouse with a bunch of buttons on it and assign the shortcuts to the mouse buttons!
@@crewscotton I control the mouse from my wheelchair with Bluetooth so I can’t, but thanks for your advice
@@claudiorecenti sorry to hear about that! Hopefully there is something out there to help ❤️

A Finzar reference!?
Thank you for the Tips!
Use L (tap 2 or 3 times) to speed up playing when you're looking on all your footage and doing selects
you are great! thanks for what you doing
thank you
Great video man. The way I "whooo'd" when I saw the top edit shortcuts🤣
This was great. Thanks.
Just a great Video! You've talked about everything possible...

useful content.

I just love your videos and thanks for the wisdom!

Great Video. Wanted to see the hotkeys you used in doing these. Also im using windows so it hard to catch up
I came here to learn and it just confirmed I was doing everything right.
wow, I took that picture with the black t-shirts🤩🤩🤩
Dude, I want to laugh at the client bursting in over and over again.... except it's so f***ing true! They are just like that. Except in my line of work, it wasn't clients, it was sales reps. Same breed, different smell.
Great video, as always! :)
Any way you can share those audio settings you use on all videos ? :)
love the Tshirt 🙂
Cute! Oh and there were a couple of tips there.
true
🤣🤣🤣 the beginning of the video killed me man, because that's so true.
Can you share your template settings? Thanks man
Hey can you make a video about how you got into USC? That would be really helpful :)
Yeah! Planning on making a video soon about my college experience and multiple film school rejections 😅
This was very interesting
Pro One! Thanks
Really like the videos you've been putting on your channel! Any chance you'll do any videos using Da Vinci Resolve? Thanks for what you do sir.
At 1:23 what is the hotkey to quickly move cuts to the track above it?
idk why but the option + C is not working for me
Can you give the shortcuts for adobe premiere pro
Is that OBS that you are using to screen record for long periods of time? I use the quick movie screen recorder and it works for me, but it feels like it takes up a lot of storage, so I don't mind using something better if you don't mind sharing what you use.
So I'm gonna buy a plugin that I can use to search for a particular effect instead of just searching through the effects?
That jawline cut me through the TV. Besides that I learned a lot, thank you.
Any folders and sequence organising on premiere pro tips?
