I. LOVED. Haru's sexuality. Beastars is the only show I think I've ever seen where a woman is promiscuous as a means to empowerment or security. You don't end up hating haru for her sexuality, in fact you really understand why she does what she does and she's a really sympathetic character. I think that's actually a huge function of sexuality and why people resort to/utilize sexual promiscuity that people don't explore much on TV because they can't get past the taboo of it.
I liked her character. She's the only reason I watched the show, but only because her English voice actor is the same as Misao Kusakabe's from Lucky Star.
It’s so unbelievably sad to me. That someone could only feel like an equal during sex is just awful and makes me angry at the world for making someone _that desperate_ for validation.
@@liannapfister8255 I mean... Kids bully others to the extremes for the barest scraps of validation. Constantly. It's a whole thing. And yet no one goes "wow, that's so sad". Like... it sucks a lot. But people do so much worse for validation.
@@liannapfister8255 Hey, there's a lot more things people have done for validation and happiness. Drugs, alcohol, even at a young age, some children have most likely had desires and pursued desires to smoke and drink simply because they've seen adults do it, and they want to be noticed and treated as more than just a kid. Haru's story is nothing short than a reality for others, unfortunately.
@@virginiafernandez6846 I'd argue that what she does is just as bad. Living in a second-third world country, Haru's story is eerily similar to young women in poverty who are never being treated other than for being poor, inferior and lazy, so they result in sexual activities just to get away from the depressing reality they live in and feel as if they finally accomplished something. Basically, the main similarity is that Haru and these women had low self-esteems, and low self-esteems lead you to do actions ranging from physical, mental, psychological or sexual abuse of your body. And who the hell's not saying that it isn't sad? Bullying's always been encouraged to report upon as it obviously affects children. Although adults don't always take action, there are certainly people who take it seriously.
I dont think Beastar really is about racism. Actually, itd be quite odd to see it that way considering carnivores arent unjustifiably feared. They have actual instincts, physical superiority (at least in terms of strength) and needs. Ones they can somewhat control but are still present Id say its more about deviance. In all its forms. It being sexual, in demeanor (aggressive, domination, submission, carnal desires, ideals)societal influences and image, gender roles, discrimination, biology even.
Completely agree, same with zootopia. We as humans have the association that carnivores would be a danger towards herbivores, therefore claiming it's an analogy to racism would imply that there would be a reason to be racist. Were all humans, all the same only with different colors. No one is more savage, stupid or dangerous by default.
@@brook_angel I recommend reading a synopsis on what the original Zootopia story was if you haven't because it handled the idea of racism in a very direct way. Carnivores were heavily discriminated against in order to make herbivores feel safe even though they had no natural instinct to kill/ eat them. with the main issue being caused by a mix of fear mongering, lack of education and misconceptions which is exactly how racism breeds. it was a really cool idea and I wish we could have seen that story animated as well.
@Kaylee Unsworth yeah the way it's handled in the two is very different, i didn't find myself thinking of race very often in Beastars; it's way more the tension between what is acceptable and what is seen as deviant.
The Zootopia carnivores are more like racism in real life, I'd say. That they're often perceived as something they're not. Whereas, in Beastars, there's a very real reason to fear carnivores. The characters in Beastars may look more human, but they act more animal-like.
Yeah that’s something I really like about it. Both carnivores and herbivores have good reasons to dislike each other. Herbivores feel as if their lives are in danger if carnivores can’t keep their urges in check. Carnivores hate that they face constant discrimination for what they are and and are at the bottom of the social ladder and hardly any are in positions of power. It’s bad on both sides.
And that's what I love about BEASTARS on how fucked the society is within its own world. The fact that they have good reasons to dislike each other due to their own biology and instincts.
there are omnivorous animals in beastars, but they're grouped as carnivores and herbivores based on predatory instincts. like how bears are omnivores but in beastars they're seen as carnivores because they have the instinct to hunt.
Fun fact about herbivores, especially ones like deer… they sometimes do eat smaller creatures. Deer eat bones for the calcium and there’s even a video going around of a deer just… munching away on a bunny carcass for the fact it was low on calcium
Its a very different concept but has alot of similar things such as a japanes crime family abducting love intrest or the wolf being weird and different but it works on the world they tell. I hate anime imo. But this is slightly different and is enagaging in some ways, i feel some side characters isnt as properly used or taken advantage of
nice that they went there, even Seton Academy did it as well, why i like anime/manga they aren't scared to "go there" yes they got anime for kids, but something like this show, Senton Academy or BNA aren't for kids more teen and up.
Ok, but the English dub is actually incredible. They hired possibly the best actors they could get. Also, I have one serious question about the carnivores vs herbivores balance: where do scavengers, like vultures, fall in that system? Or characters like Jack, who, as a Labrador retriever, doesn't have the same instincts as someone like Legoshi? It really makes you wonder what kind of struggles they're having, doesn't it?
I also wonder about the over kinds of diets animals often have (omnivores, insectivores, etc), in a world so divided into two categories how do people that fall in the middle or completely outside the two categories deal with the society?
SPOILERS. . . . . . in the beastars manga, after an carnivore and herbivore war ended, they decided to create carnivores who arent drived by their instincts, but instead are more intellegent, which are dogs and cats, so jack doesnt have the same insticts as legoshi and other carnivores, but instead his challenges are the pressure from society expecting him to be great becsuse he's a dog, this really affects him throughout the story.
I was having a sleepover with a friend the other night and we decided to watch beastars as a joke, "haha cringey furry anime" we thought. We ended up staying until 4 am to finish the entire 1st season. We are now addicted and waiting for that 2nd season.
one of my favorite things about beastars is it can stand on its own its its own story in its own time, in its own world and even without directly using them to shine a light on real world societal things or focusing on that relation, it connects with the viewer it gives them something unique and interesting another world that has its own problems but is more then interesting enough to hold your attention, something even an edgy escapist can get into
I love the fact that this show doesn't forget the fact that these characters are animals, they fully acknowledge the fact that they are, and don't forget it. My favorite example is when Legosi is in Haru's garden, and she puts his tail under his suspenders so it doesn't knock over anything. I wish more stories played with those simple ideas!!!
Funnily enough, I have the same idea as Paru except in my story, it's hidden society within the human world and the animals are actually humans who can turn into them (except the animals are on all fours) and some of them suppress the animal instincts when trying to live normally on the surface but can't sadly since deep down, they're animals as humans. Also, the main characters is a female deer with a wolf boy.....DAMMIT! XD A little similar but best minds think alike lmao.
You know how we have people stating that they wouldn´t eat lab meat because "it ain´t real meat if it wasn´t alive"? That surely would be even more of an issue for the carnivores in this anime
"and I loved it so much so that I....I'm not proud to admit it..." Me: *gasp* you looked up rule34? "I read the manga..." Me: oh!... Ok that's actually good
gonna stick by the idea that anyone attracted to the feminine, furry or not, gets at least a reaction from a humanoid with bobbles and hipsies being super sexual in general
I originally didn’t know what to expect from Beastars when I first watched it, so my mindset was like, “Well I’ll just check this out and see what it offers”. By the time that I got to the school play, I was absolutely hooked. The show starts getting really intense from that point on!
Studio Orange is an amazing animation studio, the way they mix 3D modeling with 2D animation is so seamless that it honestly impresses me so much that this is even possible
Technically kind of in the manga but they usually choose a vegan diet to be accepted by they're herbivore friends. But some do pretend and still vist the black alley market. Omnivores are usually in between and forgetten often times herbivores forget they can eat meat and get more comfortable Because they have a higher ability to just say no like how humans can go vegan and not go bloodthirsty for meat at eat things alive unlike the carnivores in this story.
So would it be worse or better to be an omnivore? You can be frowned on by both sides and not choose a side or be frowned on by one side and stick to a side 🤔
@@wonderstuck-gg I don't think the manga has made any distinction between omnivores and carnivores. And when you think about it, all carnivores in Beastars are omnivorous, because while they can eat animal protein, the majority of their diet is comprised of food-stuffs made from plant matter, like pasta, rice, etc (and supplemented by insect protein). I think the logic of Beastars goes like: "If you can digest meat, you're a carnivore", and that kind of pans out, as bears are considered carnivores, even though most beats are omnivorous.
My view of Beastars: “It’s like Zootopia, but instead of using the divisions of predators and prey to make a political statement, Beastars creates a fictionalized world based on that idea.”
I think Zootropolis had good intentions BUT it coming from Disney, who own 80% of Western worldwide entertainment, doesn't do it any favours. Doesn't help being released when social issues like racism and police brutality are very present, either. Like... we often blame Disney princess stories for corrupting the concept of romantic love in Western society, but I think Zootropolis is way more morally questionable than a movie with an ice princess who was just made to sell toys (capitalism is a diff story and I'm not going to elaborate much for now...). I am an adult and I think we are a considerably sized group of people who are aware that "Zootropolis is just a fictional story, so we are able to see it as the aesthetically appealing 3D cartoon with animals that it is", but it's also quite privileged coming from us at the same time. Seeing it through the lenses of our current human society doesn't look good on the movie, particularly for another considerably sized group of people. Like the MCU being paid by US military. Shady stuff from a business and propagandistic pov. I think Zootropolis is more like Aesop's fables (as in "stories with fictional animals that directly mirror human trials and tribulations"), while Beastars is a "fictionalized world based on the idea of predators and prey", as you say?
Radio Ardilla excuse me but what teen drama have you watched has ever had a ridiculously deep dive into the philosophy of why satisfy your primal needs immediately and without any effort put in leads to apathy and the reason why the strong shouldn’t trample on the weak
Dominga Doflaminga Yeah... That. Lol. I respect Disney for delivering such an important message in a kid’s movie though. Yes it’s silly talking animals, but it’s silly talking animals that are teaching children important, relevant things that make them be better people. That’s my view anyways. Plus, the movie itself doesn’t get too preachy (like the politics in the new Doctor Who episodes get). It delivers these hard hitting concepts through characters we care about and both are intertwined in a fun narrative that knows when to bring comedic levity. It’s not perfect, I’m not saying that, but I don’t think it’s bad to draw attention to both sides of an argument while the argument is happening. You know?
Dominga Doflaminga thanks for clarifying, I wouldn’t have known you didn’t think zootropolis was real considering the fairy tale you do believe in comrade. Hundreds of millions dead because communists thought their social critiques were more intelligent than actually understanding the mechanisms of economics and human nature.

I think it has something to do with character cliches, AKA Stereotypes. Tigers are predators, but they're see as strong and wise. Wolves are "Wild" and "Savage". Its a motif that goes back to when humans were competing with wolves for food and land. It's why almost every culture that interacted with wolves has a story about a man turning into a wolf and going on a killing spree.
I didn't realize until much later that Legom and her story was a commentary on Paru herself and her experience making the manga, it's pretty charming! I hope she knows how many people love her work.

Legosi and Haru i found were surprisingly good, Harus semi-nerdy sounding tom boy voice pretty much sold me, i thought it was a welcome version compared to the original and even from the mangas perspective, everyone elses voice and expressive vocals grated on me something bad. For season two.....if they fuck up Pina and a certain carnivore, im gonna be absolutely pissed.
One thing I really like with this show is that it’s not only the carnivorous resisting their instincts but the herbivores to. It’s pretty good at portraying that the herbivores instincts to run, hide, or freeze are instincts that also get in the way of their relationships with the carnivores. That sure sometimes instincts help but to be in a society and to have the constant reminder from your own instincts that you can be in danger at any point and you have to resist the urge to run because at night a carnivore came to you to tell/give you something important. I hope more anthro shows like this explore these worlds
I'm primarily a subber (I love hearing things in their native language and I think it usually gives the punch better, not to mention there are some REALLY bad dubs out there 😬), however Beastars is one of those that is perfect in both English and Japanese!

Ones they can somewhat control but are still present
Id say its more about deviance.

Just because I could abuse somebody means if a grab a weaker person arm or hand my intention is malicious.

Jack has a huge mental break when he realizes his animal type was bred to be obedient.
I also wonder about the over kinds of diets animals often have (omnivores, insectivores, etc), in a world so divided into two categories how do people that fall in the middle or completely outside the two categories deal with the society?

one of my favorite things about beastars is it can stand on its own its its own story in its own time, in its own world and even without directly using them to shine a light on real world societal things or focusing on that relation, it connects with the viewer it gives them something unique and interesting another world that has its own problems but is more then interesting enough to hold your attention, something even an edgy escapist can get into

XD

My view of Beastars: “It’s like Zootopia, but instead of using the divisions of predators and prey to make a political statement, Beastars creates a fictionalized world based on that idea.”
Bestars is a a retarded teen soap opera for retards.
This is where it starts, yes :)
Quoting a friend of mine: "Beastars is like Zootopia for degenerates"
Guess I am a degenerate then.
EDIT. So, just to clarify, she loves both Zootopia and Beastars and made that comment jokingly.
Thanks for the likes, tho.
Welcome to anime friend
He doesn’t understand the path of the weeb
It pisses me off that the only thing people see in beastars is “lol bunny tits” when in reality it’s not NEAR even TRYING to be fanservicey
"Beastars" is "Zootopia" for people who don't like being preached to, and shown that the real world is a messy place with no clear answers for many problems.
Both of them are for degenerates but ok
Y'all don't understand, the best OTP is Legosi and his virginity
I will only read the manga once he loses his virginity. Which is never.
@@laobok is it a spoiler?
Legoshi*
@@splimpy-xo5lx Legosi and Legoshi are right
@MrKaczorek oh in the subtitles it says legoshi
This was my first introduction to beastars. I’m glad to say that this show did not disappoint and I have bought and read the manga.
Saber: "is it built on lies?"
Me: the show or reality? Because yes.

Weird, he said that RIGHT when I looked at your comment
Saber: "I am a huge fan of animals being used to tell a story."
Disney, with it's critically acclaimed shit-eating grin in the corner: "heh, yeah"
I’m the 69th like, but like Disney made me a furry and it’s a problem.
@@venusgin7779 Not a furry here, but I see the appeal.
Speed I’m not a furry as much as like a real furry person, but like damn when someone is sexy(and has the intelligence level of a human being) I can say it’s sexy.
Jana Arandjelovic Was it Kovu? For me it was kovu 😜
adey126 honestly it’s more Robin Hood than anything, but Kovu is fine as fuck
Most of human civilizations throughout history: Has anthro animals in art
Modern internet: Hur hur u a furry
[The Egyptian gods hated that]
[insert jojo pillarmen theme]
How many of them wanted to bang a bunny on its booty tho? besides Zeus and his goofy tricks lol
Im kidding bro, furries are just the modern emo's, one day we are going to stop making fun of it and let them live. Its aways funny to mock odd stuff, human tribalistic nature.
@@drewinsur7321 Only as long as its not politically incorrect. Furries haven't beaten anyone into submission en masse and called that tolerance just yet.

EPIC POSES INTENSIFIES
Not gonna lie, watched this series expecting it to be cringe worthy furry shit. No. No no no no. The story is absolutely fantastic. I had to go and read some of the manga after the end, and I gotta say that Louis is unironically one of my favorite characters of all time. He's such a well done microcosm of what trauma can do to a person. It's amazing.
beastars is actually one of the only highly sexual animes/shows i've found i can actually watch without being super uncomfortable. so that makes me very happy since i love the anime so much
@Clorox Bleach bruh leave the dude alone
that's cool 👍
I guess food wars must make you highly uncomfortable
@@katherinewilson1444 it did for me :/
@julian brito most of the more adult scenes are actually used to explore the character and the themes of the series.
I don't know how much of beastars you have seen so I don't know if I can give you examples without spoilers
MY DAD PUT THIS ON AND TOLERATED EVERYTHING TILL THE BUNNY WOLF SCENE (Ya know which one)AHHHHH!!!!
welcome to anime and serious adult TV series, where sexual tension is very common. And doubly common in shows with teens or young adults.
The one in the beginning of the anime? Nothing even happened between the 2, he just ran, I feel like a lot of people will think they would do 'it' or something in the show eventually but nothing ever happens and everyone misses out on an amazing show! 😍 im in it for the story! 😊(if something were to happen I'd skip it but nope it didn't really 👀) There's one more scene but it's not even that bad, saber even showed it if u watched past the 3, 2, 1 spoiler countdown till the end of the video
Expression and animation 10/10 (mostly expressions, I think they did great and legoshis face !😍)
Dub: 9.5/10 (wasn't big fan on haru voice)
Sub: don't know but I heard it's the best voice acting from lots and that they did very good! And they recommend it 100%!
Story: 10/10 😍😍😍
That scene that made everyone stop watching: 5/10 (honestly wanted to stop and skip but I continued and saw cute legoshi run away and It confirms rumors about her making us realise she is indeed sleeping around)
Charachters: 10/10 LOVE THEM
it's in my top 10 anime coming from someone who as been watching anime most of my life and defiantly over 100 animes! ❤
... why the heck did I type this much, it looked very little amount on my giant tablet- if u made it this far you should get a reward ❤❤👑👑
But if u don't want to watch it or someone u know it's ok 😁 everyone has their own opinions ❤😊 just wanted to share my love for the show lol
So, did you just skip the episode or something?
@@the888gamemaster oh! I wouldn't skip an episode but I would skip the scene (couple of sec or minutes) but there was nothing to really to worry about, the scene was like a minute long & wasn't that bad so I didn't end up skipping it but I did pause to think what I was doing with my life 🤔😁😁 glad I continued to the end of the show ❤👀
Bestars is a a retarded teen soap opera for retards.

"That's a clean burnin' hell, I tell ya hwat!"
Imagine Beastars or Zootopia, but with dinosaurs. That would be sick
"Wouldn't that just be Land Before Time?", you might ask, and yes.
I love seeing tall characters and then googling their height. And then finding out I’m taller than them.
kryptic explosion what about peppa pig
Me, to a fictional character that doesn't and will never exist in real life: *checks character height* hehe I'm taller than you
Xali McDermott I can feel superior in my own way
Same
Dude I’m taller than Legoshi, the void in my heart has been filled
The omnivores just chilling: 😐
Really?
Insectivores during this whole thing ¡~¡
@zcvbvcvcxdsffg Hold on, I just realized. If bugs haven't gotten bigger how would insectivores, like most microbats for example, be able to eat? Are there bug farms? If the bugs are too small did the insectivores go extinct? Did they just not evolve to become bipedal humanoids? How would other mammals (specifically fruit bats) see them? Would they think of bats how we think of monkeys or apes? How would the other mammals treat them? Would they be like pets? Or pests? Or would they put them in a zoo and have them studied as we do apes and monkeys? So many questions and I cant think of any answers!
@zcvbvcvcxdsffg Yeah but irl they eat other things with the bugs. An insectivore would ONLY eat bugs.
@zcvbvcvcxdsffg To be honest I dont know at this point.
You can tell that Saber is both tired, and having fun with being called a furry
Yeah. I like your name.
"These videos get the most views and thus the most money for me... so I give the people what they want."
