How much they own and win every year anyway? 111 million is nothing from them.
That could've been used to charity or helping the world instead. Yet here it is.
A few ways to make this better:
1. Replace the “male” and “female” martians with two entirely separate martian species. One of them is empathetic but impulsive; their social cohesion and inventive spirit allowed for the rapid growth of their society, which quickly became unstable due to their unpredictable swings of mood and whim. The other was a callous race of raiders and scavengers who, while capable of similar growth, simply lacked the ambition and camaraderie to do so. The raiders picked at the edges of the socials’ society with surgical precision, causing ripples through it and worsening the instability, before finding their perfect moment to tip the house of cards and seize control of things.
After driving out the socials from their cities, the raiders slowly began to fill the empty space, only to run into a different problem; their tendency to simply lay eggs and abandon them was incompatible with their new domestic lifestyles, often violently so. They couldn’t trust the socials to raise their young, and there was no way in hell they’d do it themselves, and so they searched the former databases of the socials for a solution. It’s this which eventually leads them to Earth and its moms.
2. In accordance with the new characterization of the raiders, and in service of verisimilitude, the raiders don’t bother putting in much time to study individual human subjects and just *happen* to find Milo’s mom perfect. Instead, they just take large numbers of women from scattered locations across the globe, then scan their minds to see if they fit the appropriate psychological profile; then they extract whatever knowledge they can before disposing of them.
3. This one might not be that great, but I’ll toss it out there. You could maybe have it be a plot point that the influence of human mothers has made the raider society kinder and more cohesive over time, with tradition and a cultural pushback against this increased empathy being the main reasons why the crueler aspects of this still occur. Criticizing that sort of thing could then become part of the messaging of the movie. Moms are there to make you do things you aren’t always comfortable with, after all, and to make you take responsibility for yourself.
There are probably other possible suggestions for making this movie better, but I’d actually have to watch it to figure out what they are. I think I’ll pass.

While these are good way to fix the movie I don’t think they would help. You know a movie is bad when your watching it high and still hate it
I have an idea to make this movie better, the reason why the Martians "needs moms" is because the females have disappeared without a trace, even some DNA of them or fossils disappeared as well (at the end of the film, it would be revealed that the Jupiterians have kidnapped them for nefarious reasons)
I know that this idea might be horrible or not
I kind of expected the only reason the martians would "need moms" is because they're either:
A) trying to save their dying race by using Earth women to replicate embryos due to females becoming infertile
Or B) they're all the product of getting cloned from each other similar to how Irkens were in "Invader Zim" and wanted to study the psychological effects of having a mother
The true reason or deep meaning for Milo's mom being captured could've been the Martians never knew what it was like to have parents since they were all basically made like a product on a conveyor belt to just simply work and go to war or whatever. It definitely makes more sense and is more interesting for an alien species to want to have some compassionate curiosity to learn from another species and figure out what's missing in their way of life or try to prolong their race than to just shove a random mother into a machine just because its convenient.
I also think Ki shouldve had a character arc much like Milo's, being a rebellious little martian brat who's in training to be like the other martian warriors but wants to screw off and have fun, making her Milo's equal in a way, Ki's backstory could even have some depth by having it revealed that the overbearing female ruler abuses her verbally similar to how Milo realizes he talked to his mother before she was taken and thus is why she's acting out; she seeks attention from someone who she wishes understands her
My idea for improving this film is not only revealing the whole martian society but also have Wingnut speak English and act normal, not having Ki and Gribble be love interests and Wingnut having 4 SISS Martians to be hired as his most faithful bodyguards including one who has a big crush on him.
One thing is certain though about this movie:
Our appreciation for our mothers skyrocketed after we watched it as children.

the Jimmy Neutron movie has a similar plot line and i think the kids all celebrating for a bit and then realizing they need their parents, and then going and saving them gives more story to the growth of the characters

I remember being traumatized watching this movie as a kid. I was at sleepaway camp in elementary school and everyone was super homesick. The leaders decided to have a movie night. They had the bright idea to show all of us this. Needless to say everyone was bawling after that and they stuck to better quality and more lighthearted movies after that.
Just imagine your child says something incredibly hurtful to you and you're husband's like "I'M GONNA MAKE THAT A BOOK THEN A MOVIE SO YOU CANT JUST FORGET ABOUT IT"
I did a report on this in sixth grade and the only note my teacher had was, "Almost knocked points off because of how scary this movie is."

Well the book looked a lot more charming and fun, while the movie tried to make goofy, light-hearted source material into a serious story, which 9 times out of 10 always backfires.
Try Artemis Fowl. Disney is making a film adaptation for the book series that completely misses its mark

Oof that applied to like half of the movies out there. I can name a handful of poor renditions off the top of my head :( books to movies just don’t vibe well sometimes
It’s pretty clear that the weird designs for the martians were caused because the mocap requires a character that’s very human-like to translate the motion well. But they just apparently deformed certain features to the extreme so that they looked alien enough while still being workable with mocap. And then they made the strange decision to give them very human hair and skin. It makes them look like deformed apes and it’s just uncanny.
My grandmother brought me to see this movie in theaters, and she died later that year. I was 5 and it terrified me. But I still have some positive memories and feelings for this movie because of her taking me.

I really love how this movie was marketed for mother's day. like this is a fun Mother's Day movie to celebrate mothers. But the whole plot/ world-building is based on the male martians being underappreciated. And the ending message is basically order to be a good family you need a complete nuclear family unit.

Ive seen this before. I swear I have. It’s uncanny, so uncanny. I don’t recognize 99% of these scenes, except for the mom almost getting vaporized and stuff, which to me brings back memories of terror. I thought my mom was going to get vaporized one day because of this movie. I was terrified.
to be fair to the kid and the writing of the kid, I also acted like the kid when I was younger, and I think it's more realistic that as soon as his mom was taken away, he wanted her back.
At least to me, If it SOMEHOW happened to me as a kid, I'd be bawling my eyes out during all of it cause I never actually wanted to not have a mom, I just wanted more freedom. I never hated my mom.
The least realistic thing about the kid to me is that he isn't crying enough. lol
Somehow, the reason for the martians wanting to take his mom makes more sense in the CHILDREN'S BOOK.
They want them because they grow from the ground and don't have moms, and they want moms to take them to soccer and ballet practice and playdates and pizza. And to clean and to cook, pack lunches and bandage boo-boos!
Basically, they just saw moms on telescopes and decided they were very handy dandy and wanted to have them. But then when they see Milo's mom (take into account that book!Milo is like 6 or 7 at most) take off her helmet to save him and he begging for them to save her, they realize that it's not fair to take some kid's mom and return them to Earth.
Because why have a good, easy to follow story, when you can have zero world building and a flimsy plot?

My high-school literature class discussed the animated Beowulf movie this company made. Their interpretation of Grendel’s mother became a running joke being “sexy Grendel’s mother”, because of how horrifically portrayed the character was.
I remember when I was a kid, my mom visited for a day and read the book to my class and I sat up at the front with her during it and as she was introducing the book a classmate said something like “is it funny like the movie?” and kid me just super matter-of-factly responded instantly with “it’s sweet”

I mean it's pretty obvious they took liberties all over the place with everything except for the basic story setup.
I mean the character designs of the aliens are the most egregious by far. Whoever signed off on thinking they were cute or good should have not just been fired but blacklisted from Hollywood forever.

I was one of the few who saw this movie in the theater when I was seven and actually used to think it was pretty intense lol. I don’t think I’d think that now though. I also couldn’t tell if it was animated or live action, it was so surreal for me back then.

I have vivid memories of seeing the advertising for this and seeing it in theaters. Rango came out the same year and my brother wanted to go watch that, so my dad took him and our older sister, and my mom took me, our younger brother, and our sister's friend since our younger brother was a baby and needed someone to watch me in case he started crying. I loved this movie as a kid, maybe because it just took place on Mars, but I did. I didn't even think they were ugly or weird and there being no world building didn't bother me (as a kid). But then I completely forgot about it until today. It's so weird 😭😭
I actually really liked this movie. I rewatched it at least four times, and I do not rewatch anything ever. It also definitely made me aware of my actions and appreciate my mom more. I went crying to her how much I loved her and I never mean anything I say when I got angry. It has a special place in my heart.
But it's poorly executed to the point where it becomes unwatchable

Prince of Egypt already had a good base to go off of, but Mars Needs Moms was based off a mere children's book, so it needed alot more originality to it.

I remember reading that book and seeing those pages, that book made me appreciate I had a mother, the movie just scared me instead.
My top 3 animated films are, in order: Prince of Egypt, The Iron Giant, and Akira. Nothing beats a driving story and excellent, groundbreaking animation.

I remember reading a story as a kid. It was about children in a world without adults and how they struggled - when I read that one, I never thought "Wow, we sure need adults to survive", I thought "Wow, I wish I had that bike".
To be honest, I think I never learned a lesson from kids stories. Even if I DID learn something, it's probably somewhere in the subconsious. Am I the only one?
btw, it was planned to have 3 movies, however the company was shut down before it could start on Mars needs moms 2. which would have been a war between two factions, 1 wanting to restart the program (explaining in more depth why they did such things) and the other liking the way things are now as men have fully integrated into society, working as guards and such in their cities
this culminates in having gribble, now old and grey sending a probe to reach the main antagonist freshly heading into high school
it was nice on sketch's, I loved hearing about it as a child as my uncle was very expressive when he shared it around our household durring bedtime stories..

I remember seeing trailers for it all the time when I watched Disney princess movie. I was never interested in it and my parents never borrowed it from the library. But now sounds like an interesting thing to check out!
I distinctly remember in the trailer we were looking at this moon and then it would zoom in and turn into a whole civilization with buildings, and we’d follow this young man boy kid thing with a ponytail and he’d be surfing or something. That’s all I remember before skipping every time 😂

Same. I watched this movie when I was about 4 with my face like an inch away from the tv in the dark at night. When I saw the part when the mom got kidnapped I looked back at my mom sleeping and was terrified she was gonna get kidnapped

What I remember from the movie was that the aliens didn't knew how to raise their kids and basically where looking for a mom who was perfect for racing kids(Milo's mom) because she had a great balance. While the martians where looking for strict moms, they saw mothers give what their kids what they wanted, but when they saw Milo take out the trash, they said 'okay this is a strict mother' and decided to take her. I was very young but I remember this movie bc it traumatized me so much because of the needle scene. Just human experiments make me so uneasy and so idk.

i remember this movie came out shortly after my mom died, and my dad thought it would be a good idea to take my siblings and i to go see it so we could get out of the house. needless to say it did not go well and we all left traumatized and in tears

I saw this as a kid and forgot about it and now that I started watching the video my memories came back of me watching it like 2-3 times because I stayed at my grandparents for a few days and they only rented 2 movies for me this and something else, I forgot.
In Polish it had funny title "Matki w mackach Marsa" "Moms in tentacles of Mars".

@@Sedlan18 Who knows at this point.. Toystory 5 is a possibility. LooneyToons is still up and running with new episodes, new cast, new animators.. Iceage had 5 sequels.. Everyone's keeping up with the classics and remakes.. It's just matter of time before it happens. There was even a rumor about Roger Rabbit in 2016.
I'm just glad most of the people involved with the first one including Bob hoskins are gone and won't have to watch something good ruined/destroyed by greed.
