    There needs to be a mandatory age at which they start testing people every year, in order to keep their drivers license. If you can be too young to drive , you can be too old to drive

    Just in case anyone was wondering, she was evaluated at the scene by a mental health clinician and they did take her to the hospital for further evaluation, the cops have requested an immediate threat license suspension with the registry of motor vehicles

    I took my mom's license and keys away from her when I saw her run through an intersection with an ambulance coming. Then I took my dad's away long before he got bad--I just offered to drive him everywhere. He loved it.

      Under 25's cause the most crashes/accidents by far. People over 70 should not be driving though if they are not competent. Most older drivers are responsible however.

      @@ActiveAussie2024 My car got hit four times. None of them were my fault. Three of them were elderlies and they were very old. Only one was a teenager. One of the elderly didn't even know she hit my car. Other two couldn't even read the driver license numbers and barely heard my voice. After certain age they shouldn't drive cars anymore. I am not saying to be mean. We will all get old eventually. Sometimes they are very dangerous to be on road.

    All other pedestrians were confused how she managed in perfection to get right there by car while they all had to walk. She reached the final level by car. She is the new master of the car driven society!

      @@adav5533 Sadly, some don’t have any. My sister in law has a cleaning business and has this elderly couple who consistently have accidents. Not making it to the bathroom and it getting on the carpet and it sits there. Another time the wife fell on her husband and hit her head and it bled all over the floor. He couldn’t get up because she fell on top of him and he couldn’t move her. It’s sad.

      We don't allow children to drive cars for the same reason we don't let dogs drive cars, they simply lack the skills & abilities to take part in a process that is one of the largest killers of people in the country. Cars are dangerous & people need to start respecting that.
      Sorry granny, time to get a bus pass, but judging my that vehicle, she should just hire someone to drive her... like an Über driver.

    There is a time when we have to have that talk with our loved ones. Trust me, it is hard taking the keys from parents, grandparents, aunts or uncles, but you have to think about their safety and the safety of others.

      We did this with my grandparents. They agreed as long as we took them to the grocery store and Walmart on fridays, Carl’s Jr. on Saturday, and dr appointments. I really believe it saved lives.

      Too true. I was nervous about that conversation with my mom because she was always so independent. I was thrilled to find out she LOVED being driven around, and looking out the window and talking about all the sights she saw. When I noticed how much she looked around I said, "You know what mom, you've been working, and driving all over the place doing business you're whole life. I think you should let me drive you in your car--youve earned the right to relax and see the sights, let me do all the work." I think maybe by making it sound like she was denying a pleasure to herself, made easier for her to make that decision...miss you mom❤️

      I've recently had that conversation with my mother, it didn't go well. She's adamant about her not driving. I must respect her but, I worry everytime I know she's driving.

    She was marveling at how incredible the city managed to decorate those streets. This sure beats any small shopping center she's ever seen and driven through. And to think all those people wandering all over the street. Must have had a street fair that day. She must have been so excited to stumble into such a fun event!

    I live in Maine and there are a lot of elderly drivers where I live. So far twice in the five years of living here I’ve almost had head on collisions with elderly driving on the wrong side of the road. It should be dealt with the same way we deal with impaired driving. It’s not fair for your family’s to grow up without parents so some old man can drive to the grocery store.

      @@kennethhenderson8842 These were my thoughts too. Many of them don’t and are living on social security so affording to pay for deliveries adds up quickly. People need to understand that it can make things quite difficult. It also can affect them sitting at home constantly. Not everything is in walking distance for people.

      @ken the only problem with that logic is that you could argue some one with physicall or vision impairment. Should be able to drive because of personal needs. And these needs outweighing the publics safety is some thing I can’t agree on. I will agree that it must be tough being elderly but you need to adjust some how

    My mother voluntarily quit driving when she 70 saying she didn't have the confidence in her reaction times anymore. We live in a small town with no public transportation so I gladly became her chauffeur. We Need public transportation everywhere but I see no sign of that happening anywhere any time soon. I'm alone and can't help wondering what will happen when I can no longer drive, I offer rides to many elderly in my area while I still can. People are quick to judge others, but how many would actually step up to offer a ride to an elderly person, not many I assure you, at least not unless they get paid for it. Instead of being hateful to this generation, offer assistance, it's quite rewarding and the history you can learn is awesome

    I'm a caregiver and this is giving dementia vibes honestly. And you have alot of people out here especially the elderly who don't even know they have or haven't got evaluated for dementia or Alzheimer's.

    I'm glad to see everybody was so patient with her. My mother has 5 degrees, 2 of the are masters and she worked in education her entire life. She's now 75 with early stages of dementia and can't even cook a meal. We all have to look out for our elders.

      As a Sales Manager of assisted livings since 2008 hearing this breaks my heart! The fact you mentioned how educated she is doesn't surprise me. There seems to a higher probability of getting any dementia with the more education someone has. I truly wish you the best of luck and always live in the moment. Unfortunately, dementia's progressive, but there will always be moments where your mom's personality will shine through the disease. Take those moments and cherish them!!!

    I worked at a car dealership and we advertised at the local mall. I’ve had the privilege of driving a car through the mall but we had permission 😂.

    I’m 37 and I have Parkinson’s. I moved from one state to another and had to have a medical exam by an M.D. signed off before I could receive a driver’s license in my new state. It felt slightly insulting, but I totally understood it. Gotta do it again in 2 years. I know that in about 5-7 years I’ll have to hang up my keys. Why isn’t this a requirement for people over 70? I was tested for vision, diminishing reflexes, range of motion, ability to make decisions quickly….sound familiar?

      I hav seizures AND vertigo and when I had the tbi that caused these afflictions I knew it was time 2 let it go. I'm very young 2. But i was being honest wit myself 🙏🏽

    I had my drivers license suspended when I had a stroke at 23yrs old. I can drive now however, if I ever feel like I am not feeling well or thinking straight, I will not drive at all. I’m not gonna risk hurting someone or risk getting my drivers license suspended again. It is very costly to get your drivers license back.

      DMV checks should honestly be roughly every 5 years. It’s crazy how many Americans don’t know how to navigate a broken traffic light, roundabouts, merging, distinguishing the left passing lane from the fast lane, establishing lane and exiting lane.

      They say driving with as few as 3 alcoholic drinks gives you the impairment level of a 70 year old.
      So why do we allow those aged 70 and older to routinely drive impaired?

    I'm in my mid-sixties and about five years ago had a minor stroke. My attention span, reading and ability to do math have been negatively affected. By choice I don't drive anymore.

      They said it was scheduled for that day, so I guess it was the earliest it could be done. But I agree something temporary should've been put in place. A couple of bright orange traffic cones would've done the job.

    At 1:00 the woman says this was crazier than a shooting that happened at the same mall… being from another country (Canada) it makes me genuinely sad that this is crazier, that shootings either mass or single person are so common… I feel like most countries, or at least here any sort of shooting would be so much more crazy… 😢

      @@madcow1998 I mean, you’re kind of statistically wrong. Technically speaking in the USA there are far more mass shootings annually than there are people driving into malls. Therefore, a person is more likely to expect to encounter a mass shooting at a mall than they are someone driving into it and they’re therefore more likely to say this was more “crazy” than if there were a shooting.
      Also, given the nature of both events, someone is more likely to describe a shooting as “tragic” than they are “crazy.”

    In north Carolina the other day a 78 year old man went through a Hardee’s restaurant and killed 2 people while they were eating this happens more often then people think.
    And same thing happened to a good friend of mine 5 years ago he was sitting outside a gas station a women in her early 70s killed him smashing into the gas station she said she got the gas Pedal and brake pad confused and police never bring charges on the elderly.

    I'm sorry. I can imagine how awful it is to lose your freedom of driving anywhere. But there has to be a change in the law. There should be an annual driving test after a certain age to renew a DL. We see this kind of stuff happening more often than we'd like.

      They didn't even bother to put up traffic cones after some other bad driver took out the post in front of the entrance. That post obviously wasn't sturdy enough if someone could take it out with their car, and there should have been more than one.

    I was at a CVS when an elderly lady was trying to park. She hit the gas instead of the brake and her car went over the parking block, between the door and a couple of pillars at the entrance, hit two parked cars and finally stopped. I heard someone say she was 89. She was ticketed and may have lost her license, and the police had her call a relative to pick her up because they weren't going to let her drive away. She wasn't injured but very shaken and confused.

    My grandpa, may he Rest In Peace, willingly gave up his driver’s license when his vision started to go. For the elderly continue to drive so recklessly, I suggest that when you can register for AARP you need to take a mandatory retesting for your drivers license. I’m sympathize to the elderly. However my empathy and sympathy dwindle when I see or experience this in person.

      Anyone can become an AARP member. The AARP is an organization that advocates for people 50 and older. We don't need to worry about people over the age of 50. Dementia usually doesn't kick in until about 75-80, with the vast majority of dementia cases being diagnosed at 85 and above.

    This is hilarious as long as no one was hurt. I'm 46 and my parents are already talking like "they'll pry my license from my cold dead hands." My dad has driven sports cars his whole life that's his thing he'll never give up his license. This is my future.

      Anyone over 50 should do a mandatory driving and written test every 3 years. A Elementary school girl was killed my a elderly person who didn't see her crossing. A elderly person hit my car on the freeway 2 days ago.

    I hope the family of this woman sees this and understands that she probably needs help in day to day things and probably shouldn't be driving. I know it's a difficult thing. No one wants their freedoms taken away, especially elders. But there comes a time when their own safety and the safety of others needs to be a priority.

      No responsibility of the mall? What if it wasn't a sweet old grandma who clearly saw she'd gotten to the wrong place and slowed down and asked people how to get out of there?     Had my vehicle totalled last year by an elderly woman. I agree there needs to be a age limit where you have to get checked every year to ensure your safe. Ppl might say it's wrong but elderly ppl lose track of everything. I'm amazed they let such a old guy be president but the world's a strange place.

    Before the Benicia Bridge opened in the Bay Area in the mid 2000's, my friend's sister worked @ Kiewet who was doing the construction. Her husband who also worked at Kiewet, told the grandparents that they could use the bridge before it was opened to the public, jokingly, when they went to Tahoe that weekend. The grandfather drove onto the still-under-construction bridge that Friday evening during rush hour. They said the same thing was happening, crews running and calling on the radio that some crazy person was driving down the bridge that wasn't finished. My friends sister was so embarrassed, it made the evening news to!
    Old people are funny.

    When I was 21 I moved into an apartment in a really nice suburb area.. I found out soon the town was filled with ederly people and there was soo many car accidents by the highway intersection and by the town grocery store parking lot.. kinda made me apprehensive to drive around older people after that😬
