The S63T engine is reliable if maintained properly… it needs careful run-in and an early oil change as the factory oil is extra-thin to allow surfaces bed together. The PHEV will make daily driving affordable eliminating as it will V8 fuel consumption on the school run. Speaking of PHEV, I’ve currently dailying a 545e (388hp B58 6cyl w/PHEV)… the haters don’t realise how much help the EV boost assists the ICE. This will be a great car for public roads but, admittedly, probably not for the track. I’ve been lucky enough to drive lots of powerful cars but launching them and doing zero-sixty never featured in my driving habits… it’s too costly: it eats tyres and puts big wear on the drivetrain. Knowing BMW, I’m betting the real World 0-100Km/h timing will be closer to 3secs, but who cares, mine will never do it and I’m happy with that.
So sad to see the flagship m car looks and performs compared to what it was. who ever is designing this m5 really needs to take a step back. To produce something so heavy and slow compared to previous m5 . This will be a very limited market. To petrol heads this is a no go R.I.P m5
@ianm4316 you've got to remember the world we are being forced into with EU emissions regulations that manufacturers are being constrained by, it was either make the car heavier with a hybrid system to meet emissions or keep it the same/lose weight but lose the V8 in place for a straight 6 or 4 cylinder to meet emissions requirements. Personally I would rather a heavier V8 over a 2.0L like the new C63

I actually like the look of the G90 but on track, weight is important. If its truly being used for transporting multiple persons and everyday driving then whatever. I care about performance and you are winning if you own a F90 (not considering previous gens). I would honestly swap everything out for the previous F90 powertrain but that unfortunately is not feasible nor convenient.

I was at Good wood for this as well and they were apologising, a lot, that's not an impressive time. On the day the Genesis was 5 seconds quicker and for context the M5 was less than 3 seconds behind pre war cars. I had high hopes, for this especially with the wagon coming back at last but the previous gen AMG is going to take it's lunch money. I get the compromises but other cars are not gaining anything like the same weight, adding hybrid systems and smaller V8s are producing more power whilst still meeting requirements. It's 400kgs heavier than a model S plaid and that's all batteries. The XM is the same drivetrain they haven't made any effort at all.
Ahhh see I disagree, I never heard anyone saying sorry and heard quite the opposite, alot of pre orders already taken and people looking at it and saying I actually really like it. I'm not sure what pre world war cars you're referring too unless it's the old Bentley the M5 and M3cs was following up the hill?
Either black sapphire, the standard BMW black or Carbon black. It did have what I thought to be the slightest tinge of blue in the paint so possibly carbon black, but I have not see carbon black in the flesh before so it might be something random as this was a pre production M5
I love this car the first i saw it , M department and their engineering team have done an Amazing job with this car . The weight is just something We have to live with because the time We are living in now. I know it would be heavy because i know it would be hybrid. I happens to be in so much love for the new XM also , and that car is heavy , but my god that car is so Amazing to drive with awesome driving dynamics and handling also . M department is soo good to hide their weight in heavy bmw’s. They would never launch this M5 if they wasen’t sure it could perform and have very good driving dynamics Even if it is the heaviest M 5 ever. ❤❤❤🔥🔥🥰🥰💪💪👏👏. Yes i am big bmw fan , and thank You for a great rewiew. I also hope bmw will have more option when it comes to wheels . Like them i have seen so far , but like more options please.
,,trying to keep the V8,, mate.......it sounds worse than an inline 4 2l . You know,i love BMWs and all other enthusiast cars and im sure if BMW puts a large CRAP on the bonnet and makes it full electric there will be people, like yourself, who'd give them a thumbs up and say AWESOME. We should point fingers if it's necessary rather than kiss ass trying to hide the problems,or blaming EU regulations. We don't care what EU regulations are, we want a proper M car, surely they could've come up with something instead of this idiocy. This brand is built on something that people/owners/fans loved,it doesn't matter who's foult it is,but BMW it's losing it. BMW feels like some sort of KIA nowdays.
@robb5828 I think it sounds okay, it'll take all of 5 minutes for someone to stick an aftermarket on it and it'll sound just as good as before. Like I said I've never been in an M5 before so I'm completely unbiased to my first experience in one and I liked it. Unfortunately unless the EU crumbles every car will be getting quieter and heavier and more EVer in coming years.
