- We attended the Goodwood Festival of Speed today and headed straight to the BMW M stand for the world premiere of the new G90 M5!
Our first time seeing the car in the metal, and I have to say I've come away impressed, and I can't wait for our car to arrive in a few months. Certainly a few changes we'll be making!
We were lucky enough to be right next to Franciscus van Meel as he discussed the latest M5, and then Imran offers his initial thoughts too.

trolls not gonna like my comment, but this ///M5 one of the best looking model, I like how side profile some kind of share e60 lines and the front has f10 DNR.
Coming from an rs6 c8 owner (2200kg) i would still take this new m5. My rs6 weighs the same as this m5 when my mrs is in my car, so really would not make much difference anyway, Beautiful car.
Seeing this thing makes me love and appreciate my f10 M5 so much more

Yet people were surprised how good the c63 moves around and you can't really feel the extra mass. Go watch the latest car magazine video on it, the let down with the c63 is the 4cyl and not the mass, this m5 will have no such issues.
@redchristy the only appealing part of the new C63 is how much faster it is compared to the last one. The new M5 isn't faster than the last. Disappointing no matter what.

Not a fan. BMW has really been lacking with their design language in recent years, and that weight is just inexcusable for an M. Excited to see what you can do with it!

I'm sorry. I am just old school or maybe I am just old. But BMWs in my opinion should be light quick and nimble. This thing has a lot of power but it has to.... it is a bus
M5s have never been light relative to what else is available at the time.

The G81 M3 is more than adequate for me. The new M5 is more akin to a 7 series luxury saloon. The M5 should have been lighter and faster than the previous generations.

Despite all the negative comments: i do like it! It looks like it should --> a sporty business limousine (it is not supposed to be a race car)
Of course the weight is crazy compared to previous versions, but the typical M5 owner does not care because it's DNA is to be fast & comfy on the Autobahn

You don't feel the weight only feels slightly heavier from the F90.
I really struggle to see how they will be able to disguise the enormous weight, and how it will be on our narrow bumpy roads. Interesting that there will be no Competition version, although a CS hasn't been ruled out.
Instead of the competition I've been hearing "red label" like what the XM was crowned with..
The new 550i m sport would be your best bet to a real m5.

@@moStallion Not really. This is still a monster of car, and the 550i typically got skipped for the M5, I plan on doing the same of going 540i to M5.
@@ii_dynasty 540i is perfect in terms of power and fuel consumption also weight distribution is better than the m5 due to it having a lighter nose. If you modify it correctly. It'll be a baby m5 for real
Active steering was available in the ninenties on the E31, called Aktive Hinterachskinematik (AHK)
I loved this car from the jump to be honest. My only gripe is that wait. I wish they just used lighter and possibly weaker batteries and just tune up the S68.
Assuming the S68 is the same as it's predecessor (S63) it alone should be able to handle 727hp and 1000nm of torque. But hey I'm not the expert

Older, non-hybrid M cars will be sought after, considering the driving experience that they offer. I don't think that true BMW & M drivers appreciate 2.5 ton hybrids, regardless of their plastic bumpers. Unlike you, I actually drive G80 M3, so what I'm saying is coming from experience. I bet you bots don't have a licence, let alone a high performance vehicle.

Yes this car is iconic!!! Always,drove an M5 and it was incredible (2008)drove it up to 145mph,car was on rails,just incredible!!!!

It's really finding out how much the trans can hold. The G90 v8 should be able to put out 700hp on its own and with the additional 200hp from the electric motor.
Amazing car, as expected BMW have made it aggressive and I love that it’s a wider body. BTW, no one got the colour right not even the M CEO. It’s frozen ‘DEEP’ grey as I have on my M4Cx, not dark or black.
This is great looks great. was skeptical about the hybrid setup but I think I’m in love with this too!
Was at FOS today (Thursday).. sat in the black M5.. lovely interior seats but other than that didn't feel special enough.. would definitely opt for that Yellow paint work. Keep up the great work guys!

besides the gps panel on the front i think it's a good looking car, idk why so many people are hating it, but the power to weight ratio is just inexcusable for an M car, it's supposed to be an evolution not a regress
I like the way it looks, just not sure about the performance. It looks like your intakes and turbo inlets might work… it looks like the same design language as the S63

This is perfect for the majority of M5 owners who don't even track their car. The addition of electric just makes it a way better daily driver and road car.
Ok, kinda like the design look, but still holding back until real world testing is done. I would rather have all motor with a turbo/supercharger. Not crazy about the additional weight of battery and electric motor which raises more maintenance/repair/replacement/cost concerns. We'll see.

Way too heavy, should've had at least 900+hp. To beat the amg gt63 s hybrid with its 831hp.. But love the new yellow M individual exterior color. That with blue racing stripe would be perfect..

Not going to lie, besides the fact it weights as much as a HGV this is a good looking motor
I know this is an impossible ask, but it's too bad BMW couldn't have followed suit with the new 992.2 Porsche 911 and their hybrid drivetrain. Lightweight, no charging and most importantly only 50KG weight gain. I do like the look of the new M5, but I the M3 Touring is still the sweet spot in the M line up.

Does having the electric motor complicate anything with regards to tuning it?
When i open the hood i want to hear valves bouncing up and down, belts rolling pistons pushing and crankshaft spinning and at least a lovely v8 shape

BMW has the German/European spotlight for some time to come. This new BMW products are going to grow on the market place. And once again they will see sale go through the roof! Watch and see.

M5500, 550 just wasn't enough so they got M to stick another 5 in front of it. My guess is they kept the theme going with 5500 M logos, because hey, this is the new M!

Of course everyone is talking about the (heavy)weight of the M5, what really annoys me is the design that comes with it. Just look how high the headlights are placed, looks like a family van.

Main question did they fix number 8 cylinder . All previous gen had issues with motors .
G80s now the best and fastest M car they make, so de tuned from factory and runs rings around this with a simple stage 1 tune
This is the first M5 I really find disappointing. I was sad when the F10 came out (and the engine sounded rubbish, albeit potent), but it looked handsome. The F90 was a good looking car and performance was stonking, but again, the engine was a little dull in character. This is just absolutely ridiculous, it weighs so much!
