My state inspecting in June took 1.5 hours, beside state requirement, inspecting station can deny you for anything they consider safety even if not required by the state. Inspection stations can charge you what they want for a sticker, no set price by my state. Sucks overall.
if there is a bubble in the side wall of the tire it is a failure also if there is a cut in the side wall of the tire and cords are showing it is a fail I dont think you mentioned this
It's been 3 years and I can't remember the test - pay attention in class is the best I can tell you. The instructor *wants* you to pass and will drop important hints!
This is way stricter than the NJ MVC Inspection which is only emissions post 2010 every two years. For a 2004 Indiana made Toyota Sienna Which is what my family has the leaking power steering gasket causes the inspection to fail in NYS if registered there but not NJ MVC which is only Emissions two years. Different story if the minivan were to be registered as commercial paratransit school bus 2 plates NJ MVC Yearly and biannual inspection
What kind of suspension and steering mods will fail? Will my truck pass with a 9 inch lift, solid axle swap and custom built steering system? Does it matter if it has non factory axles and equipment?
NY checks for bare minimum safety, and a check-engine light. If your suspension is tight, you have brake pads and wipers, no tints, and no check engine light, you're fine.
My daughter is moving to NYC from FL (I know!). Her car has 50% tint on the front side windows. Do I need to strip it? Do I need to test the parking brake? It was a Midwest car.
@@briankissel8820 I wound up pulling the tint a year ago. Actually the car is going in for its second inspection tomorrow in Elmsford as they left the city.
I was at a repair shop during the week, and the shop failed a car for tinted windows since the owner refused to remove the Tint film off the front driver's and passengers front door windows. I'm sure once he realizes that inspections are now tied to registrations, he will be taking off that Tint to avoid a suspended registration.
technically the regulation for emission control devices is only that they must be present. nothing says they have to work. our inspection regulations are very flawed...
is it possible to bypass the state inspection entirely if i show them my emissions test form from another state? My current state only does a obd check and thats it (my friends acura passed with flying colors with only a transmission pressure switch code)
so let's just say a car comes for inspection that doesn't have a cat on it, but the check engine light is off and all the monitors are set. in PA, we still have to put a sticker on the car, because OBD is in charge of monitoring it the emissions components, not me. does it work the same in New York?
Thanks for replying. I have another question which may sound a little stupid. I actually have a check engine light with code p0017. I usually erase the code via OBD2 scanner but it comes back after I restart the vehicle. It does not come unless I restart... I could drive a full day without it. But the moment I shut my car, it comes back on start after about 5 secs. My question is can I pass inspection if I erase code and make 7 monitors ready? Do they shut off the car at anytime during inspection? Your reply will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
@@TheInformationBlock we need to verify that the check engine light works. We do this with the car on, engine off, so yes, we generally shut the cars off.
Thanks... so you connect the machine while the car is running and turn it off towards the end? And remove the machine while the car is off? Sorry for all these questions. It’s all so stressful. Thanks
Hey i need an immediate response, im having an new york state inspection on march 13, as of moment ive installed borla exhause on accord. Also i cut out the resonator which make the car louder. Will i pass this state inspection?? Please help, im a little nervous Thanks
I just checked the full cr-79 and i didn’t see anything about a air bad light being as a fail. All it’s stated is that the light needs to be visible. Ive never heard of a fail for the air bag light . The way you word that makes people think the air bag light will be a fail .Belt only on the power steering is the only required part. The only leak is a brake leak or a leak on a brake part that fails. YOUR GIVING FALSE INFORMATION
Yikes. What a burdensome overreaction to the occasional idiot neglecting their car until a wheel falls off. When that happens in Wisconsin, we just drive around them and go about our day.
Thanks for the video. I always wondered what you guys look for. Also, awesome Minion.

The video sound is pretty good, beyond my imagination
Can you do a window tint video please ?
Thank you may God bless you for you information

They always used to spin the tires as if it was speeding down the road to check emissions. Do they no longer do that?
Thanks God we dont have that stupid low in Illinois
I’m 17 and registering for the inspector license test soon, any tips on how to pass? Study books?

My mechanic passed my car with a broken spring in the back...I didn’t find out until I went to get tires done for my car....
Thanks. If my red srs light is on, will it fail inspection?

How do the authorities in the United States view car tuning? Especially off-road vehicle lift, bumpers, winches, big wheels, etc.
NY checks for bare minimum safety, and a check-engine light. If your suspension is tight, you have brake pads and wipers, no tints, and no check engine light, you're fine.
a lot of the safety fails were not covered glass lights and other tire fails
Will the car pass if 1 reverse light is out?
No. All exterior lights must function, with the exception of fog lights.

Yes and yes.

Is a muffler required as long as you have a pipe that leads to the back of a car?

It's b.s. tho. We should be fighting this inspection b's. Alot of states have done away with it.
Window tint ✔️
No muffler ✔️
Deleted def ✔️
Windsheild tinted ✔️
No cats ✔️
Are all seatbelts checked?
They're supposed to be, yes.
hey might be looking for engine light
but I don't think tire senor light
in NY state
the rest he says is also correct
Scoolauto a question can pass the new york inspection with the EVAP monitor not ready
Yes, you can have one monitor not ready. Some cars may pass with two monitors not ready.
I thank you for your quick response and pass my inspection 👍👍👍👍
What about shocks?
technically the regulation for emission control devices is only that they must be present. nothing says they have to work. our inspection regulations are very flawed...
The theory is, if the emissions bits aren't working, the Check-Engine light will be on, and thus the car will fail an inspection.
+Schoolhouse Auto there are well known ways around that
Krankie V super late but how do you get around the drive cycle monitors?
You don't. The inspection computer needs to see all but one test having been run.
I know I wanted to see if they were gonna give me some bullshit answer and two if it's 2000 and older
how do you do that?

If the car is registered in New York, you must present the car for a NYS inspection.

We are supposed to visually verify the emissions components are present.
Brian Kissel well that blows.
What about electric vehicles like the Tesla which I don't believe has an OBD 2 port
Legally it has to. All new cars sold after 1996 have to have an obd 2 port
@@crazy4gta1 no Tesla’s only go through annual safety inspections no emissions it don’t got an engine bro 😂😂
If my suv is a 2019 and has catalytic converters but i cut the resonators and muffler and replaced it with pipe, will i pass?
As long as the check engine light stays off, you'll pass.
What about airbag needs service light ..on...does that matter..?
Nope - airbags are "secondary" safety systems, and not pass/fail
John Baart it states the light mist be visible but does not state the light cant be on
Hi, my oxygen sensor mon is not ready. But all other 7 are ready. 3 others are labeled as N/A. Will I pass the emissions. Thanks
Yes, you can have one monitor incomplete and still pass

So where is the follow up?
@@gchsbus I PASSED it
my TPMS wont turn off , will it pass in NYS ?
Yes.
What if there's a hole in the exhaust
It's not drasticly loud. But a small hole and everything is there
Great video
I just got a fail from inspection. because my rear window was tinted.
Passenger vehicles need to have all side windows at 70% transmittance or clearer. All other vehicles, it's just the two front side windows.
Martin Berzerker or 35% on 1991 or older cars
Can u still pass if u have a small lump in ur tire
Generally not - the integrity of the tire has been compromised

glad my state doesn't do this shit.
so you only need one good break? NYS is stupid.
