living in NY, its crazy how quickly salt can destroy cars. frames rot from the inside out and unless you get an undercoating on a new car by a company who also treats the inside of the frame it will still have rust. i just give all the used ny cars i care about a cleaning, some rust reformer and a thin film of oil or grease right before the first snowfall. seems to work for me

Even had a few that smelled like very strong gas and could probably catch on fire anytime. And it caused me to get a headache within seconds. These safety inspections are a good idea!
Several studies on state vehicle inspection have been conducted and they show that inspection laws don’t change road safety significantly. Since most people want to live, they will attend to critical problems on their vehicle themselves without a state nanny making them.

I think your good. My windows are a stock 70% tint and I want to tint them to 35% legal limit but I dont know after this video posted 3 months ago I feel like imma fail. And online it says I can put 35 in so confused my rear windows are a stock 15 I wanna match up since the windows are already dark in the back
What state are you from. Best way to pass is take the tint off. Then do it again it sucks but it’s better getting right the first time! Dumb New York State law says sedans can’t do it only tint the rear windshield only! But since I have this patriot it’s considered a SUV so I’m assuming since I have stock factory tint cause most suvs are like that I can tint my front window lol

Since it can be fixed for free, most people would get it fixed for free, and thus, it is less likely that such issue will exist. Moreover, most new cars are covered with full coverage insurance, so if the issue was caused by an accident, they are more likely to be fixed... ergo, there is a direct correlation between the newness of a car and the likelihood that it is safe.

In my state if the part isn't within manufactures original specification it should fail, even if the problem might be only a slight crack on a rubber bushing. Since it didn't come that way the safety inspection should fail. As it's written that should mean? All aftermarket parts should fail as well unless they are OEM compliant? Also tire thread if it's 2/32 you fail, and even if the vehicle passes safety and OBD 2 if applicable? The inspection station can fail you for anything they deem as safety even if it's not required by the state! Truth is this is part safety and a scam to get peoples money another example? There's not set price for the inspection sticker by the state, inspection stations charge what they want which range from $35-$80. My April 2021 Inspection took just over an hour to complete. For OBD if you cleared a code and completed a drive cycle and you only had one Incomplete it would pass in my state, not sure if New York is the same? Thank you for putting on this vehicle.
I got my car inspected and the next day my ball joine and axel broke while i was driving. And my wheel went sideways. shouldnt this have been checked when i got the inspection? what should i do ?
Last I knew, ball joints and cv axles are not checked in NY state. Don't know what state you are in but that's how it is in NY. I never agreed with not checking the ball joints, I feel with those bearing most of the front end weight, they should be checked and fail if loose at all.
Will you pass if you have a check engine light which has nothing to do with the emissions and does not affect the performance of the car? ( it is a transmission code) not sure why it's on

I can't imagine living in a state where you have to let a stranger poke around in your car to check stuff like this. I drove through Oregon once and almost fought the punks at the pump because they wanted to touch my truck.
too many things left to the "interpretation" of the inspector. conveniently the same person if he gets your work will profit from all the cars "failures". That part of the procedure needs to be rewritten with more objective measures.
The nys car inspection is meant for only one thing.....TO HARASS THE DRIVER!!!!! I left nys for Connecticut primarily because the inspection procedure in Connecticut is MUCH simpler there. Connecticut checks only to see that check engine light is off & the Cat Con is there, and only every 2 years. F______ nys, on the other had, checks almost everything on the car every year!!!

The tint law is in effect so in the unfortunate event that law enforcement pulls you over, they can see inside the vehicle.

Can’t stand when the old sticker isn’t completely removed. My dealer is just as lazy with cleaning that glass.
