- TPMS, A tire pressure monitoring system lets you know if a tire is leaking air or if it is flat and creating dangerous driving conditions. Since older cars dont have TPMS and it is a really nice feature to have. In this video I show you how to install an inexpensive TPMS for your car or truck.

Having worked on cars before TPMS was mandated and after, I will say it helps prolong tire life.
Now, I agree that people should "just check their tires". But I can tell you that many people simply do not. They don't check anything on their car.
The amount of tires that come into the shop under inflated is far less today than in 2005. The amount of tires I have replaced due to inflation wear is far less. Personally I am glad only 1 of my cars have it (wife's Tiguan)
+HumbleMechanic Thanks for sharing your experience Charles! That is pretty cool you can see these trends!
Is the weight of the sensor enough that you should have your tires rebalanced?
Well here in Canada we have garages with air prashers and there's a gage on the end of the line, telling you the air prasher in the tire.
Robert Jensen I highly doubt it
@@greatpix The weight of the sensor will probably be about 15-30 grams. Most tyre balancing machines will balance by 5g increments.
A 30g imbalance after a year of wear is considered 'normal' for a car daily-driven, but ideally, should be rebalanced. However, not necessary. Keep in mind that a road wheel is naturally lighter where the valve inserts due to the fact it's less metal to create a hole. That's why, when you get new tyres, you'll sometimes see little dots on the tyre itself.
Its 2019 and the price went down 50 bucks, in case anyone is wondering.
Do you have a link ?
@@juniorhernandez4570
The link is in the video description. They're only $60 now...they were over $100 when this video was made.
Also has a usb port and several others are available for less than 50. All less than having to get a new tire! Googling I found some sold through walmart for like 22 bucks.
Does it still come with the dust boot? I thought that was nice touch.
Atlanticbacon anyone know if they make the tpms light turn off on the dash?
Please, don't ever stop being helpful. Don't stop posting videos man. I've been a fan a really long time as a subscriber these will be appreciated for YEARS to come. Thanks again I will continue to pointing all my friends with car problems In your direction.
Wow, I've never seen a video with so much detail, great editing, awesome audio and very entertaining. Love watching your videos over and over again.
for a 109 dollars id rather walk around and check with a Guage ...
+TheMonkeyeats ikr! that thing is more expensive than my car it self lol
+TheMonkeyeats some people have the cash but not so much the time. This is convenient for them
+News_Flash_411 Is it true that the gauges themselves lose accuracy and have to be replaced at intervals?
+TheMonkeyeats Well, just like everywhere else, you pay extra for the convenience.
I agree! I aint that lazy.
VIDEO IDEA. You could do a video on replacing an aging factory stereo head unit with a new one/aftermarket. You could include running a new power supply. When I did my radio I had to run a new positive power supply because the stock radio got its power in a way I didn't understand. Monsoon if you've ever heard of it. complicated radio system. I put in new speakers too. The stock speakers had 4 wires each which would not work with a new head unit.
many radios have an amplifier built in my VW jetta had a monsoon stereo system you have to find the right wire so it can run off the amplifier ive had trouble with this before took me awhile
What's it matter whether or not someone is still running factory radio? I got no issues with factory radios in my old 80s Chevy trucks and 95 F350.
I got that low tire pressure light in my car and I've always wanted something to be able to keep track of my tire pressure. Very lucky that I found one I can trust through your channel!
Bought several sets of a less expensive model last year and had very good luck with them on several cars EXCEPT they came with aluminum (silver) security lock nuts, not brass as in your video. Over time, galvanic corrosion froze the lock nuts in position, requiring me to cut them off the stems using diagonal or side cutter pliers (the nuts need to be out of the way to refill the tires). Put the sensors back on, and no one has ever stolen a single one, and none have loosened on their own. So, my advice is DON'T install the lock nuts if they are aluminum!
You can use a grease.
@@Acavando True - just wish I had known that beforehand!
Thanks so much for the video, Chris! I just got done learning about tires in my auto class and realized how important it is to keep track of tire pressure. Also this makes me wonder: why don't manufacturers use this system? Instead they put the TPMS between the tire and wheel on the other side of the valve stem. Oh and fun fact my auto instructor told me, some TPMS sensors also read tire temperature but for some reason, people were dumb enough to think that the higher the temperature, the better it is for the tires so manufacturers had to remove that feature.
They don't use it because it requires batteries that drain every 2 years
@@omarpulido8502 Yeah, they're garbage. I didn't even get 2 years out of mine.
Makes checking you PSI a dream but makes filling your tires a nightmare
I agree. Just check your time pressure regularly and save your money.
Besides, it changes the tyre balance as it adds weight that was not there when they balanced it
@@Tax2Me I was thinking the same. When the tire shop balances wheels then they add only like 10 grams to balance it, so that’s all it takes to throw it off balance. 10 grams is easily reached.
Some of these people dont realize that tpms sensors that go in the tire costs 100 bucks a sensor. This is a good idea.
And, at least in my Nissan, they don't tell you what tire needs air. It just aluminates that annoying symbol on your dash.
Let me tell you something Chris I intsatll them and now there stuck onto my car now because when you put the locks on overtime they get to hard from all the rain and heat outside and whatnot they become impossible to take off so imagine now Chris how many have these problems which you don't tell people
This is actually a pretty nice idea. Affordable and easy to setup. I wouldn't be overly concerned about someone stealing the caps, at least they're not shiny chrome and are just small enough to be overlooked.
+justletmeuseit That is why I had to share! I liked it a lot myself!
This would a great gadget for my older cars too but already have a dual dashcam plugged into cigarette lighter port. Also, tire pressure not much of an issue anyway since filled with nitrogen; hardly any fluctuations.
In any case, great video as always Chris!
i looked up the brand featured in the video and they also offer a solar powered version
Im just waiting for Chris to say "Soapy water" and Im done! Damn he never diappoints me.
I wait for that too haha
Or thrade lock lol
me too
I grew up always checking, tire pressure with gauge, lights working, oil level and brake fluid level before driving. The 5 minutes it took saved me trouble a few times.
I would buy these if it didn't cost $110!

Consider the actual parts for a tire pressure monitoring system if yours go bad. Its about that PER tire.

TPMS saves lives. Was cruising down the road at 75 MPH on a very bumpy freeway. Picked up a screw (verified by finding hole in tire carcass after tire blew). The screw somehow came out of tire. Not knowing that tire was deflating while driving on bumpy freeway, it was slowly deflating causing tire to overheat. Before I could sense that something was wrong tire exploded and truck ( towing small trailer, which also was causing resistance making it hard to detect that I had an upcoming catastrophe). It was dawn and getting dark which added another problem. I did not see all the smoke coming from the overheating tire. The tires were in good condition and properly inflated before I drove, for anyone who might think that was an issue ( as mentioned earlier I did find the original cause of the problem, I always check my tires on long trips even when stopping for food, rest and gas). All of a sudden car in right lane started flashing head lights, I looked in right side mirror and could see the smoke in his headlights, tire exploded at that moment causing for a wild ride. Managed to slow down an get over to shoulder, but it wasn't easy. Changing a tire at night along a fast moving freeway is scary and no fun. TPMS would have given my a heads-up that I had an issue and given me time to find a lit area off of the freeway to plug or change the tire in a safer location. I do carry a small compressor and plug kit on trips (Nevada to Pennsylvania).Hopefully they make an aftermarket kit that also gives a low pressure warning.Trying to keep a vehicle in control, changing a tire along a fast moving freeway at night, 3-4 hours of lost travel time, $200 for a new tire. Yeah $109, I'll take it.
Great video as usual. Thanks Chris! FWIW the TPMS warning light illuminated on my wife's SUV a while back (2010 - came with stock TPMS). Checked all of the tires and all were at the correct PSI. Thought one of the TPMS monitor batteries had failed. Took it to Discount Tire and it turned out to be the spare tire pressure was low. Don't forget to check that spare! Keep up the great work.
Thank you for posting this - installed today - works fine 👍
do you have to balance the tires since the sensors weight 10 grams and may affect the rotation of the wheels?
Nope
lol really?
Nope. Most sensors of this style actually weigh less than 9 grams and do not affect rotation at all...
That's the difference between a mathematician and a physicist.
If you feel harsh vibrations at speed, balance your tires.
Thanks Chris. I actually purchased this TPMS from Amazon, because of your recommendation. Excellent product! Thank you for your video.
I have an 07 Chevy Cobalt and it didn't come with TPMS because it was made in late 2006 and sold as a 2007 model. TPMS became mandatory on all vehicles made after 09/01/2007. Purchased the kit shortly after buying new tires a few years ago. The tires are low profile and is difficult to tell if they are low on air. One day, around a year after buying the tires, I got into the car and the monitor was beeping. Showed the front right tire was low. Looked at the tire and it looked ok. Checked the tire and it had a nail in it. Aired it up and later on got the tire fixed. Saved me from driving on a low/flat tire which would have ruined it . A new tire alone would have cost over $100.
Too expensive for what it does ! It would be better to check the tyres manualy and it seems very easy to steal...
+Sven Mk Thanks for sharing!
I saw you have improved the translation, nice :)

+Sven Mk Thanks! I had another subscriber add in his edits so we have a better translation! Thanks man!
Okay he's French ? Me I am
You can not check your tire pressures while your vehicle is in motion. And when it's in motion is when you pick up something that will cause your tire to go flat. And with a TPMS, it gives you ample time to pull over and check to see if your tire is going flat and put the spare on and not damage your tires. It's especially useful when you have expensive, low profile tires.
Thanks Chris but doesn’t adding an extra weight to the tires affect balancing? Because I guess when it comes to balancing of wheels even the weight of the wheel nut can be an effect on especially the front tires at high speed . Just wondering
Get balance beads
Hey Chris fix I’m Spanish but I love your videos thanks a lot I have learned many things by watching them.
Very thank you 4 this video. I have seen this tire pressure monitoring staff a person can buy at the stores. It was very, very expensive. Stealing/ crime is a huge problem. Thanx for the video.
No problem David!
Is a wheel balancing necessary due to the addition of the weight of the TPM devices?
I was gonna ask the same question. They aren't HUGE but seem like they would put a wheel off balance at the right speed.
+Tamás Madarász Lol no.
+Colton Blumhagen Why not?
***** Because they weigh almost nothing.
+Colton Blumhagen How much does each sensor weigh?
How are the sensors powered? Is there some sort of battery in these that you have to replace or what?
+Daniel Reimer probably .. but once the battery goes out I'm guessing the sensor work or show in the small cigarette lighter plug in.
the video said the batteries last 2 years.
+Daniel Reimer 3rd image on amazon link, there is a battery
+chris ce smh
+Daniel Reimer Each sensor has a small hamster that spins a generator at precisely 1800 rpm . You feed them daily. Each hamster is trained extensively on Boyle's Law, Physics, and Calculus. Formerly, these tasks were handled by a team of miniature squirrels, but things changed. Soon after the squirrels became unionized and demanded better pay and working conditions.
Cris this was an excellent demo and I have ordered the system for my 2010 Ford Ranger. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise.
Thank you so much for this very detailed video. At first I was thinking oh great he is not going to tell us about this awesome product, he is just going to ramble on about a whole bunch of nonsense. I'm so glad I was wrong. These type of videos are suppose to be informative and you did an awesome job buddy. Keep up the the good work. I'm buying that TPMS system now because of you.
wayyyy to expensive for its functionality...
Just check the tire pressure every month and every time the weather changes significantly (temperature).
If it was 20$ then I would consider but the amount of tech involved increases the price also I fear that it would get stolen easily .
+André Carvalho I wish it was half price. It cannot get stolen easily because it locks.
+ChrisFix I think this is exactly as having parking sensors or hill climb assistance, you don't need them until you have it (or drive a car that has it regularly).
Yes it might be hard to remove for the thief but also for the owner. This is actually useful for people who "don't care" about the car just drive off and don't inspect it regularly.
Nevertheless, good video!
That makes me think I should do a parking sensor install video. Hmmmmmm.
+ChrisFix Everyone should have it they cost 15€ with a color that you want already, the eBay ones.
They Work perfectly fine, one should be carful with the placing of them but with some testing its easy. In the end if you bump into something it's Going to cost more than 15€ to fix, So it a good safety feature to prevent damage repairs.
Even if a part fails, the whole kit cost 15€ you could replace cheaply each part. An OEM sensor costs wayyy more than this whole kit and in the end does the same.
Do a video it's worth it!
+ChrisFix I love my car, and I really take care of it, however, busy lifestyle and being always on the run is hard for me to check pressure everyday.
I actually bought this set because you recommended it and because I was saved by a TPMS system back on 2009 when one of the tires of my jeep liberty was punctured by a big Nail... I actually was doing highway speeds and thanks to the beeping of my TPMS I was alerted and came to a complete stop before the tire was flat.
So I will be installing this in my 03 jetta
thanks!
I'm so smart I once drove about 4 miles on a flat tire because I thought all the bumping was probably the snow
It happens. I drove 50 miles on the highway and didn’t know my tire was flat the entire time.
You both give your licenses back
One of the best and clearest videos on youtube
Kool. This is really important to protect your wife, kids and family from a blowout at 65 MPH. People often over look tire pressure. Thanks for the Video.
Great video Chris. I might get one of these systems on my taurus.

+ChrisFix I like these kind of videos and hope to see more.
+Jmoney Any time I come across something I really like, I will make a video for you guys!
+ChrisFix Awsome
+ChrisFix Chris, I bought this set because of your review... just to let you know that it does not work with my 2013 RAV4 since it has a dust cover on the cigarette and it will not allow the plug reach power.
just and FYI
I like it... but still expensive for over $100
bahhaziz people can easily steal.
my little pony did you not watch the video? Go to 4:30
spacemann He's like me...oh god!😁
Its not worth it and it looks soo tacky man just buy a lil handheld gage nothing fancy and leave it in your trunk adding the digital thing to the inside is just bleh and anyone who knows about cars will just laugh at u lol
not only that.. but takes over an accessory(cigg) port.. Be nice if it could rig up to a fusible link then to a digital unit that you can custom mount somewhere. And don't tell me that's complicated.. I've seen temperature/clock gauges sold at truck stops/gas stations!
Get a set which also tells you wheel temperature. This can even help you find brake or bearing problems.
To the smart asses saying they just wouldn't be lazy and check their tire pressure with an analog gauge. If your that proactive about checking your pressure good for you. But what you arent proactive enough to do is check your wheel temp. So when your temp is significantly higher on one wheel compared to the other three you'll know somethings wrong and have it checked out. Its how i was able to diagnose that my wheel bearing was bad even though it hadnt started to make a clear sound yet. But it did save me from chewing up a $300+ tire too badly. I think it had just started to cup. But it could have been a bad caliper or a couple other things thats best to catch as early as possible. Ill always have a tpms monitor system on my vehicle and trailers. Its an invaluable tool. Anyone saying otherwise is woefully misinformed on exactly what they do. Id suggest reading up on something before you make a foolish statement about it
Thank you for this video, Chris. That kit looks cool to me. I wonder if the manufacturer would make a single, gasoline proof unit, to screw to the Schrader valve of a fuel rail. That'd be awesome.
you probably have to balance your wheels now
+Vova3iLvova I saw the specs while searching for its price on ebay and the whole sensor with the battery is about 9,5 grammars ,so I wouldn't be very anxious to do the balancing right away especially if the application is like the above truck or a jeep but at first chance , yes , balancing is a good idea eventually.
I have that system on my car. I got it up to 80 mph and didn't have any vibration issues.
+Frank Gonzalez For some of us, we go faster than 80 haha. for the average person it won't matter that much
MrPooky218 if you do, you deserve whatever happens to you.

thanks for the helpful vids :)
The fact that you linked a cigarette lighter power sensor means you know EXACTLY what you're audience is looking for. Thanks!
I’m rock hard rn
I bought some after watching this video a year ago. I did it primarily because I have 24" rims and little rubber between the rim and road. This assures my tires are fully pressured and I don't have to worry about damaging the rims or tires.
Thanks Chris, it really helps me for my car. :D
I want this but they are massive it will kill the look of my rims
nvm I just saw the price and I don't need it for $100 at the moment I have other things to fix like installing a turbo which isn't fixing
***** Ebay turbos all day
+7topseven7 *spits out water* can you repeat that??? lol
+7topseven7 idk what's worse, you faking having a turbo or running an ebay turbo
MrPooky218 Ebay turbos best bang for your buck
thats how you make an ad. Straight forward and not boring.
I had to get one for my motorbike, lower pressure makes riding so much hardwr and could be fatal, on a car its a bit more safer and harder to notice but I would still get one for a car to detect leaks.
another hit chtis!!! i will luv that gadget
+Ivan Gutierrez E. Thanks Ivan! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Ivan stop kissing ass....or you will end up liking it
HenryMania sorry if my comment bothers you. hater will always hate . in speci all ur rase. the" sufered "ones.
Thank god my pilot have this built it on the screen. 😃😃😃
Awesome, this is much better than having to dismount a tire, then take the tire apart, to just replace a disposable TPMS followed by putting the tire back together and re-balancing it. All that work gets expensive fast, especially since not many DIYers have access to a tire machine at home.
As an auto tech that works in a tire shop, never fill your tires to the pressure on the sidewall. That's the absolute maximum they should be at. As you drive, your tires heat up, heat = expansion. If you have already filled your tires to their max pressure, BOOM! You just had a blowout. I see this CONSTANTLY in the summer. Always go by the door sticker, or if you don't have one, go at least 10-15 psi below the max on the sidewall.
You still have them on your B3000?
Cool and all no doubt but for 100 bucks id rather do it manually within 2 minutes lol
I think it's more important for high way and off road trip as it will alarm you before you destroy the tire driving on it flat or worse make an accident.
Or on a trailer where it is hard to determine a problem until it reaches the catastrophic point. Cheap insurance.
What good will that do you? If you don't have a compressor with you, you stil have to change a tire, or will this change a tire for you? Most shitty things don't happen within a 1/2 ,mile radius but in the f** middle of nowhere or other shitty place
Really not too bright are you!!
and not to mention as soon has it tells its low your gonna spend twice the time walking around with this funky wrench and socket taking them off and spraying everything soapy wooder
This is Awesome !!! I love love love it !!!
Our Toyota sensor went out this is a great affordable alternative thank you
useful mod tbh, underrated and over sean for those of us who track older cars and swap tires all the time... good to have a set of these with u
can u make a video on how to install push start button on a car??
Cool idea
Remote start would be awesome too!
Remote start requires a bit more work. They have 4 basic wires, because every car is different more knowledge about the car is required. The multi ignition cars are a royal pain.
As much as I like Chris fix and watch him more than any other car enthusiast, mighty car mods has a video up about how to install push button
Doesn't push button start make stealing the car super easy?
Sadly some cars the cigarette plug is on the bottom of the center console under the A/C controls normally in front of the gear stick so you wont be able to see the pressures, unless their is a version with a portable screen that you can place somewhere.
+IIGrayfoxII That is exactly where mine is. You must drive a Subaru or a 94 Accord.
+drink15 Impreza.
My previous car was a civic hatch and it was just below the gear shifter, which is still away from eye sight.
+IIGrayfoxII You could install a second cigarette plug in a more visible spot. It won't look as good but its possible.
+AndyPFTW I ain't hacking my car, If I was to use this kind of product, I will go for one that has a portable screen that I can attach to the A-Piller
But I check my tire pressures each time I fill up so i see no need to have this kind of thing.
+IIGrayfoxII You can disassemble it and put it were you want. Only 2 additional wires :)
My car has tpms but thumbs-up because I learned some new things about tire psi
thank you for the video. good to see a demo video with a clean truck inside as well. alot of guys who do videos always have a dirty as truck yours is pretty clean. kudos to you.
Do they throw the balance of the tire off? Anything weird, like noise, vibrations?
Bought this exact TPMS system - nothing notable in the year I've spent using it.
Some systems recommend you balance your wheels after fitting them.
They have to affect the balance. Pure physics.
@@Smurphenstein that is if you do the whole valve stem with a sensor which the sensor is inside the tire.
They should consider adding a pressure monitor for the spare tire. That's often difficult to access when you want to check it. Unless I add a valve stem extension, I have to remove mine from the storage well in the trunk just to reach the Schrader valve.
I got the same system on an Amazon Daily Deal for £8. Best £8 I ever spent.
I love this idea, this would be great for personal safety as well.
Chris, you do a great job on these diy videos and it's appreciated.
Chris, I know it probably wont happen, but how about a 3.5 year update on these? How long did the sensors last for you? A lot of people saying a sensor dies within a year, and batteries are not replaceable?
grimmster111 i have the same ones and the have been working perfectly for 3 years
27psi! all the explorer roll-over crashes were caused by underinflated Firestone tires. the dealers were lowering the psi into that rang to improve the ride on test drives
Seriously impressed
30 psi seems low,I wonder if they make a newer version that let's the valve protrude so it stays installed when adding
That would be cool!
When you change your tires make sure to use metal valves and not rubber. The TPMS valve cover is heavy and put some strain on the valve causing a tear after some use.
I suggest applying anti-seize on the threads of the valve stem, but not so much to where it can get into the sensor. I've had some customers who had theirs fused and/or corroded on the valve stem.
Thanks for the tip!
In the place i live, i have to always check if my tires are still there before I drive.
Detroit?
Always door jam psi not the tires side wall psi
Yes thank you! So many people do it the wrong way and use tire PSI wish is not right. That’s the max psi.
Mine doesn’t shut off when the car is turned off. Am I doing something wrong? I have the exact same one as yours and I have a 1998 ford ranger
hey Chris, nice video man, easy and to the point and also great that you explained the difference between cold tires and warming them up
So will this work on my 1980 jeep it has a cigarette lighter and tire stems
Assuming it has both, it should.
I've bought the same system for my own car (90s era Civic), which has pretty much the same thing; works flawlessly. Installed properly, the TPMS should take the place of your tire stems' caps.
Should work on a Model T even if it has a 12 volt outlet and valve stems.
Also kinda annoying that you have to go through the same installation procedures and check for leaks any time you rotate your tires too..
Nismo9132 It makes me wonder why they hard coded the wheel positions into the sensors instead of assigning them when you pair them to the display
And when you add air to tires you have to do the install steps again on the tire valve stem. Just easier to check the pressure with a good gauge.
Mine has TPM (2013), which is cool. It doesnt give individual tire stats, but im actually fine with that, as if one is low, it forces me to check all of them and refill all that aren't where they should be.
Great job. If you still have the truck, a grill/brush guard would look pretty cool on there as well!
2019, Sweet clearance at walmart $13
Really, that's is a bargain. I need to get one.
Man I came across that same clearance deal! Bought it and hooked it up right away, worked awesome. Then about 2 weeks later outta nowhere it stopped working, the display was just blank. However, the USB port on the side still had power and worked fine. Was super bummed but figure maybe that's why they stopped selling em and the reason it was on clearance. Was accurate and I really liked being able to see the temperatures of each individual wheel, that could help warn of a wheel bearing gone or going bad. Are you using yours? Does it still work?
How do the sensors get power to measure the pressure and send it to the display unit inside the truck?
Tooniis+ I bet it's like watches that generate spring power from wrist movements. Probably a tiny generator with weights.
Tooniis+ I bet it's like watches that generate spring power from wrist movements. Probably a tiny generator with weights.
***** that means you will have to charge them once in a while, but he did not mention that at all.
MicroKORGI possible...
Did you watch the whole video? He clearly says they have batteries and will last about two years
Appreciate the effort I know you went thru a lot of detail
Thanks!
Thanks Chris very knowledgeable viewing from Trinidad and Tobago in the Carribbean
Hey Chris,
Just wondering if you still use these and if you have had any problems. Thinking about getting it for my car but want to make sure that it's worth it in the long run
Thanks
This model is perfect fit for family sharing car model, other vehicle like trailer or truck, motorcycle will not workable, you should get the consisted model from them steelmate.
W Bruce b
will the sensor do harm to the air faucet, especially at high speed?Do I have to rebalance the four wheels?
I did not have any issues up to 70mph. If you have light weight wheels and tires you might need a new balance but for my truck I didnt.
ChrisFix what about the air faucet? you know ,at high speed we have big centrifugal force applying on it
Jiayang Ruan you really enjoy that airfaucet nonsense
cartmanrlsusall i dont get whay you are saying, seriously, centrifugal faorce generated by the 20 gram thing is not nonsense!
Jiayang Ruan yes it is that 20 gram added to a valve stem is irrelevant. tire balancing is not necessary the fact that tires wear makes those fixed balance weights irrelevant
good idea, because when your car have below pressure tire, it is bad for drive!! thanks too much.
It's 2021 and I bought a set for my wife's car so she can easily see which tire is low. Like everything eventually the price is lower now but no rubber boots that you mention in the video to keep everything dry. I guess they had to cut costs somewhere. We'll see how long they last.

Search the vid where he installed window tints. Pleanty of face reveal not evem a reflection
why do you people care so much about someones face i do not understand
it was made mandatory due to fuel economy.
Like alot of other stuff...
Because half the idiots on the road can't look at their tires and realize the rims are on the ground.
PSA, the market is now flooded with low quality external sensor TPMS systems similar to this one. Some of them plug into the cigar lighter like this one, some of them plug into USB, and some of them have solar power chargers. The real scam appears to be sets that are sold without the specialized tool shown at 4:24 which is required to open it up and replace the sensor batteries. I have yet to buy a set that includes the tool, grr.
There are some other interesting problems with the design. First is that you no longer rely on your valves in your valve stems to keep the pressure in the tire. Instead, the sensor opens that valve and the seal with the sensor on the valve stem is what maintains the pressure. Chris was really good to emphasize the soapy water check before continuing. Second problem is that these little devices add some outward force to the valve stems when the wheels are rotating at high speed. I have seen users report that their valve stems failed after a short amount of use.
So I'm not going to go through almost 3,000 comments to see if my question has already been answered but the product you linked above is different than the one used in the video. I understand that products change over time as the video was done 4 years ago. My question is regarding the dust boots. It seems the product linked above and other similar products don't mention or show the dust boots. Have they done away with them altogether? Should I look for a product that includes the dust boots or do they cause problems which prompted manufacturers to exclude them these days? Thanks Chris. Love your instructional videos.
From what I can tell, it looks like they aren't included in any tpms system anymore, and that would lead me into believing that manufactures have perfected this technology and they wouldn't need them anymore. I haven't found any complaints about something a dust boot would prevent on any newer systems!
I will always go by the PSI on the tire. From my experience different manufacturers can have different PSI's for the same size tire's. The sticker in the door jam is for the tire's that the car manufacturer recommends for your car, that could be totally different to the tires that are fitted now. Your sticker says 30 PSI cold, but your tire has 44 PSI (max) cold.
I can tell you that if i dropped 14 PSI from my front tire, i would not be going around that bend in the road. I would be going in a straight line, and crashing.
Have you done a video on the importance of tire pressures ? I will have to look that up.
Edward Griffin Manufacturer tire pressure only applies to the stock tire size, if you move to a different section width or in my case to a different section width plus all terrain with a specific load range then the pressure will be different. However if you are using stock, then the manufacturer tire pressure is best for handling and performance. Max cold PSI should only be used for spare tires.

I totally agree with you 100%
Thank you :-)
Edward Griffin NO!!! The max pressure on the tire is simply the maximum the tire can handle. Running that pressure will almost certainly wear out the center of the tire prematurely. I know because it happened to front tires on a previous car that I ran at 40 psi.
The factory pressure is based on the car's GVWR, and you should use that as a baseline even with a non stock tire size. You can adjust slightly to get different handling or ride characteristics but you should still stay near the factory rating. My factory tires were 195/55-15 and I currently run 205/45-16 tires. I use the factory tire pressure rating of 35f/33r. If I were auto crossing I would raise the pressure, or lower the pressure for drag racing. But for road driving, factory pressure is usually best.
if the tire said 110 would you put 110
no. because the car doesn't need that much, the car tells you what it needs.
almost all cars require just 35 psi
no matter what the tire says
The higher tire pressure that is on the tire itself is Max Pressure when inflating to set the bead it should never be more than that if you go by that your tires will ride like a rock very hard.
One problem, you need a fifth sensor for your spare tyre. It sucks if you have to use it and it's flat.
You should be checking your spare on a regular basis. Then again you should be checking all your tires occasional...
For everyone saying to check pressures regularly yes but I just had a blow out about a week ago my tire completely blew out and cut all the way around. Come to find out I picked up a screw on my 3 hour drive and didn't know about It i feel like this could've prevented it which is why I'm looking to into getting one. $100 on this is better than a $400 tire
This is perfect, especially for my boat trailer.
Why doesn't anyone make a tire pressure monitoring system that includes the spare tire?
